Videos like this are unique and of great value to me as a guitarist. I admire the work of the late, great Alan Holdsworth and was pleasantly surprised by your reference. I enjoyed your performance and explanation of this Lobos prelude and, if L had my way, you would do all the etudes and preludes similarly. Thanks for what you have done with Sagreras and others.

I never thought I’d hear Alan Holdsworth’s name mentions in a vendor about Villa-Lobos. Both legends and both somewhat underrated.

Very smooth and legato version of this difficult piece to play correctly. Enjoyed it very much. By the way, ever noticed at the 1:13 mark, a Ord generates at your right hand and moves up slowly? Very interesting! Then again maybe is just dust. But I like to think someone on the other side is peeking in to enjoy this wonderful piece, maybe even Villa Lobos himself.

Thank you very much. This is pure gold for me. Do a series for ToneBase and get paid for your work. I never heard an third string like that. Allan Holdsworth did some acoustic work with a group called Gong that inspired me tremendously some forty years ago.

@@davidjaggs The Tony Williams work is amazing. His late solo work is mind altering, just taking it to a new world of tonality. On a different note, have you every played John. Duarte's Nocturne?

No, just his English Suite. I can't go directly from thinking about Holdsworth to Duarte, it messes with the mind!!!

@@davidjaggs Ideas finally being put into practice especially for the middle section bass lines , its always difficult changing established fingering but what you suggest seems to musically flow more easily .. Some other pieces worthy to add into the mix attention might be the Scarlatti sonatas K322/L483 and L352 🙂 I suspect you get loads of requests

I love this performance. The beautiful legato you achieve in the cello-like melody in the central section is expertly done. I also appreciate the rolled and non-rolled chords, clearly the product of conscious decion and not unconscious reflex. Bravo. Have you recorded the others?

I’m learning this piece at the moment. Some of your suggested fingerings are the same as the ones I have arrived at. Especially in bar 1. Why would you play it in a way that makes the next chord more difficult? Excellent advice
