Had to tame a wild dwarf Siberian hamster for 3 months, she walked rapidly and before that refused touching, but Cosmos became tame hamster 🐹 She walked all over me every evening especially at dinner time.

I adopted one of my hamsters from a hamster charity when she was 8 weeks old, she was very timid and scared. We’ve had her 3 months now and she fell asleep on me tucked into my neck the other night when I was stroking her, she’s come such along way.

This actually gives me so much serotonin and hope. I just adopted a dwarf hamster from a small pet store and she's been with me for 9 days. She's the smallest most beautiful thing I've ever seen. But she's a bit skittish. I'm just waiting until she's more used to me and she starts trusting me. I was kind of losing hope, and thinking about leaving her be and just giving her food and water, but after watching this I might give taming her another go. Also, love your videos! Hi i had a dwarf too ,it took a whole month for her to stop biting and hating me but we had such a beautiful friendship in the end,i also felt like giving up at first.its a long journey,please keep trying ,everyday try and give her treats and pet her while she eats

I have a winter white hamster and he took a whole year to tame! He would always bite so hard! He never liked being touched, ran away as soon as he heard you coming. We still made sure he was getting playtime outside of his cage though. Then he all the sudden became cuddly when my first syrian hamster died. I consider that a miracle. lol

I had an old guy, over a year in age when I got him. He was kind of a rescue and hadn't been socialized. I had to give him back, which broke my heart, but in our months together he made so much progress! I'll never forget when he tried so hard to step out of his open globe onto the floor. The next day he did it! He started free roaming and playing and hiding and he even tricked me a few times! He was so sweet and I'm so glad for the time I had with him.

Indeed! A LOT of work and time goes into getting them so tame! People think it just happens, but not so. They are not puppies, they do not have a natural affinity for humans. You have to train them to be comfortable with human hands.

Thank you so much for your advice on health to my hamster Bobby, I’ve looked up to u for many years, but now Bobby has sadly fallen asleep and passes away ❤️ we never knew why this was because he was so lovely and cute. It depends what country you’re in. In the U.K. for a dwarf the minimum is 80cm by 50cm.

a 200qt bin cage (612 sq inches) would probably work completely fine for a dwarf hamster. if you can though aim for the largest enclosure you possibly can.

I had 2 hamsters in my young age. My second one was so confortable with me, I used to take naps with him against my chest, and I would wake up 1 hour later, and he would STILL be there, sleeping with me.

It also sparks more of the debate of should pet shops handle hamsters more before they sell them. As people wouldn't sell you a untamed, untrained, unsocialised, cat or dog. Yet they do that in pet shops with hamsters. It makes me want to reach out more to breeders who handle them properly. It looks nice to have them take from early on so you can have more fun with them, Especially as they have a short lifespan.

My second hamster was like this! My mom and I got him from a pet store that handled the animals, and he was already socialized. I still remember that when we went to go look at hamsters and I got to hold him, he crawled right into the pocket of my jacket. That’s how I knew he was the right one. He was so sweet. I would bring him downstairs with me after school so he could watch tv with me 😅

My hammy is tame. When we first got him he was so little. My granddaughter put her hand in and he bit her. I explained we have to show him our hands are good! Feeding him by hand works! Gently holding him and petting him works. He lays with me on the couch in the evening. Just love him🥰😘

A method that I used with store bought hamsters. Literally just put your hand in their cage consistently, and let them get use to it. Over time, you move your hand closer, if they get nervous you stop, but the more you do this, the less the hamster will mind. After doing this a number of time, they should feel fairly comfortable with your hand, and should let you touch them without them running away. Continue trying to make contact, until you can safely scoop them up, and handle them. This is a pretty decent way to tame a hamster without getting bitten, because the hamster always has a choice, and all you're doing is trying to encourage it to be comfortable with your hand.
