Thankyou Tom, another greatly informative insight. I have, after your wonderfully informative video's, decided to apply to do the knowledge.

Morning, I really like your videos mate, its surprising what stuff you get interested in once you start getting into the content. I work offshore and have no history with working in cabs but you have such passion and professionalism in your work, that's partly why I think I'm hooked on your content. All these courses mount up don't they, same with offshore work bud. Anywho have a great day my man, speak laters.

Hi Tom. Great to see you refreshing on previous content. How about shooting a video on the unique aspect of your trade. Eg The hotel and Annabelle staff that wave cabs down, personal daily ventures, Specific places at specific times? Favourite parts of town? Station ranks Vs street plying? Street ranks? Hotel work? Unusual destinations?

Thanks Luke, these are some great suggestions. I will be covering more nuanced questions like these in future videos 😊

Its the best time to do the knowledge for anyone interested. London is a booming city and its not easy to grab a taxi at peak hours, fri, sat, sun. There is 10,000 less taxis on the road so realise that this city will ALWAYS be busy for a long while yet so you will be continuously busy too. From population growth to the fact that corporative apps with minicabs are only going to get more expensive as their investors are owed billions. Drivers in those companies wont have the pleasure to earn the %s of what a passenger would pay, so TAXIS is obviously going to gain the drivers a hell of a lot more pay(passengers arent stupid and will prefer a car that can get to the destination with knowledge, bus lanes etc...) Do the knowledge and make some serious money.... ive said my piece like i did when we were in lockdown. Its going to get even buisier next year already as tourists come back, concerts, parties blah blah. Its an amazing journey so good luck to the brave new prospectives👌🏻

I really enjoyed my time on the KOL 20 years ago and also enjoyed my first five years in the cab. Then Boris Johnson became Mayor and along with Cameron wrecked The Cab trade with absolute destruction. The trade has never recovered only for it to get further destroyed by London councils and TfL. The electric vehicles are super expensive and certainly don’t match the income of the modern trade.

Sounds like it’s definitely been spent. Heard of a few people who actually did prison but enough time had passed for them to be accepted and they eventually completed The Knowledge. If you are unsure, put in for your application as they have to do a record check and it’s their discretion to accept or not. I think some taxi unions may be able to help with this also

In the age of satnav, do you still think it is worth it for society for London taxi drivers to do all this study? Maybe the knowledge could be cut back?
@steve17hpe3 жыл бұрын
Trust me man, I have tried to follow a satnav in London, and it just doesn't work great. Fine if you have all the time in the world. But some of the routes it takes you is insane, and as much as it's updated regularly, it's not enough and you come across closed roads. It's nice having the ability to quickly negate another route, and know what lanes to get in helps stress massively. The knowledge doesn't need simplify. It's hard for a reason 👍

i think you forgot london congestion charge cost when training and ULEZ
@nadim27693 жыл бұрын
Most petrol cars are ULEZ free. If you want do a run or dumbbell in the congestion zone then do it after 10pm or before 7am. Mopeds are congestion charge free, but need to be 2007 or newer for ulez. Its a bit of a mind twister but congestion charge isn't much of a barrier
