I think that the best way to do that would be to add an element of skill to avoiding the trap once it is enabled. Make it so that enabling it doesn't instantly penalize you.

i dont think so. Also in that example, it was just the shaco box had not fully set in yet, it wasnt armed. it takes around 2 seconds for it to arm, like jhin traps or teemo shrooms!
