Loving the shout out for Ram as an honourable mention. For me an almost flawless album, every song great and an album I just go back to endlessly

Just had to comment when I saw Ram. I became a Beatles fan in junior high and by high school I had a large portion of both American Beatles releases and Wings records. However I didn’t pick up Ram until my senior year, and then only to be a completist. It struck me as obscure because I never heard anything about it. Man did that change after a few listens! I now believe it to be the best McCartney album and one of my favorites of all time. Side one is great but side two is probably my choice for best album side ever. Many times when I’m depressed I put it on and it does the trick.

@@classicalbum While one of my favorite R.S. songs I cannot listen to *'Exile on Main Street'* anymore. It's thin cluttered muddy mumbling lousy vocal sound is NOT a strength. Just like the overrated George Harrison's *'All Things must Pass'* is a monumental bore. Neither LP or *'Tommy'* sound good anymore. If you want to hear songs from there done well get *'Live at Leeds'* one of the truly great live LPs and the best Who IMHO. If you want a truly great sounding Harrison LP with his best songs I suggest *'Living in the Material World'* or a better 70's Stones LP?? *'Some Girls'* IS 10 times better! I agree *'Rubber Soul'* IS a GREAT top 3 Beatles' LP. *'Hunky Dore '* IS Bowie's best LP and *' DSOTM?'* (IS the 70's best LP IMHO) AGREED!

There's a great version of 'Up To Me' on Roger McGuinn's album 'Cardiff Rose' (1976), released after the former Byrd's stint in the Rolling Thunder Revue and recorded with some of the same personnel. It's McGuinn's best solo album. Beautiful cover art, too.

Many artists I agree with but might pick different LPs. Neil Young: 3 all tied for first: "On the Beach", "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" or "After the Gold Rush". Rolling Stones: 3 tied for first: "Sticky Fingers", "Let It Bleed", "Beggar's Banquet". Jethro Tull: "Stand Up" or "Thick as a Brick". The Who: "Tommy" or "Who's Next". Beatles nailed it on "Rubber Soul". Even the cover is perfect. The picture says to my parents' generation: "you think our hair was long and we harbored ideas that were dangerous 3 years ago? Well get a look at us now". Pink Floyd: "Meddle" or "Wish You Were Here". Beach Boys: "Surf's Up".

Thanks for this review(ish) offering. We seem to share thoughts and taste to a remarkable extent (not enough to warrant marriage or anything like that of course - two bald, white heterosexual males, often accused of sounding “posh”, probably should not be brought into too close a proximity). Hey, Barry. How about a top ten albums of Paul Rodgers? I know he’s not been the most prolific of artists, so a top twenty is pushing it! But the voice alone cries out for a critical review. Forget his Queen foray, yes he’s a journeyman, but WTF! I think his back catalogue deserves delving into.

After Free and Bad Co, I have a hard time finding anything listenable. Agree he has a phenomenal voice, but "The Firm" albums were so disappointing...Paul Rogers and one of my favorite guitar players ever seemed like the perfect post LZ recipe, but alas...pretty boring.

I see where you’re coming from. Take Page away from Plant and you lose that cohesion. It was the same with Coverdale/Page, another great vocalist trying to bring back the glory days of the guitarist with out the material or the inspiration. Even Plant himself refuses to resurrect Zeppelin, and rightly so, he’s not the rock god he once was. He’s moved on to material more suited to the artist he is today.

It's amazing to think that prior to Pet Sounds, Wilson produced eight consecutive gold albums for the group by the age of 23 and only took on the project because the wanted a challenge. He could have kept making hit albums but instead wanted to experiment and push the art form further. The strength and courage that this man possessed is enough to bring a tear to my eye and its one of the great tragedies in the history of art that he went off the rails and starved us of so much more great music.

Sgt. Pepper or the White Album. I would prefer John Wesley Harding. Or, is it cheating to prefer the 2 CD The Basement Tapes Raw? I think it made a difference to have a band, that is, The Band rather than session musicians. Blackstar or Scary Monsters before other Bowie - after all, I like Revolution 9. If there is a place for Neil Young, it's Freedom or After the Goldrush; Sabotage or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath; Led Zep 4; The Lamb Lies Down; Dark Side (#1), Astral Weeks, and Pet Sounds.

The lamb lies down on broadway is on my list for sure! Clutching for Straws by Marillion, Born to Run, Roxy and elsewhere, London Calling, Dark side of the Moon, Sgt. Not the most well known band here. But they do have a following for sure.

Interesting list Barry and I concur with a few of them. It's difficult for me to narrow down a list of just 10 favourites, after being a "fan" of someone or another since 1972. However, Steely Dan would be riding high on the list as would Chick Corea, Hatfield and the North, Joni Mitchell, Jaco Pastorius, Deep Purple, and Bob Marley. That's just a quick salvo, as Yes, Genesis, Paul Simon, David Sylvian and King Crimson also spring to mind. Top 25 perhaps? Cheers 👌

Great list. I’d have to find room for Joni Mitchell (Hejira or Blue?), and maybe Paul Simon too. I’d bin off Dylan and The Rolling Stones to fit ‘em in. I’d go with “Red” by King Crimson over “In the Court…”. Good to see “The Lamb..” in there. And “Hunky Dory” (but I adore “Scary Monsters”, and “Station to Station”). Anyway, great list!
