Actually "speed" in swedish is spelled "fart", and "impact" is spelled "smäll" (pronounced smell) So there is a saying that goes "It's not the speed that kills, it's the impact". Swedes often make fun of that saying the swedish words instead..

Thanks for the observations. I like Tractionator Adventure for difficult off-road but they're noisy on asphalt, heavy, difficult to get of and on in the field, and they don't last through a trip if it's 10000 km or more. I like Dunlop Trailmax Mission for the longer trips, but they're not grippy in mud or sand. I'm hoping the new Dunlop Trailmax RAID coming out this year will hit the sweet spot between them.

I completely agree - get a set of tyres that will help you the most when you need it the most. On the street there’s a speed limit you probably should follow anyways. You’ll wear your off road tyres quicker (vs street tyres) and will be more expensive, but in return you’ll become one hell of a tyre changer!

Really nice and informative review. I might try one of these on my T700 one day, but to be honest, I'm a die-hard fan of Heidenau's K60 Scout. For what I do they are just perfect. Excellent on dry roads, in the twisties I'm even able to get my panniers down to the road surface. 😂 They give me a feeling of safety in the wet, they are quite decent offroad, as long as it doesn't get too muddy. And what's quite important to me: their immense longevity. My set of Scorpion Rally STR already lasted for 21.155 kms, I expect the Scouts to reach that, too...
@mikefletcher65953 жыл бұрын
New riders tend to underestimate the importance of tyres, they think the ratio, so say a 50/50, relates to how much time they spend on or off road, but realistically it represents how much grip you get - so really a 50/50 tyre is only giving you 50% of the grip you actually need. I've come from motocross to adv bikes and just baffled with the whole tyre thing with adv bikes, most bikes I see offload are just under gripped and gonna struggle if the going gets tough. This is a great video and explanation tho of what to look for and expect from a tyre. Went to the Adv Bike Festival in England recently and was disappointed in the speakers they had, they were more media lovies than actual proper adv riders, and only Bridgestone had a tyre stand. Perhaps that was a covid thing, I know Revit couldn't get because of restrictions, but there should be more talk and emphasis on tyres, it is the only bit that makes contact with the dirt. Great vid - thanks

I've got a set of MotoZ Tractionator Adventure rear and will mate it with a Dual Venture knobby for my next ride. My usual go to is the TKC80. The best wet road tire in a knobby I've found. I tried the Dunlop 908 Rally Raid and found them slick. Nice in the desert we ride here, but on a wet road they were scary. I did like the Golden Tyre 723's I used. Expensive and harder to find, but good tires. One of my criteria for tires is easy of dismounting them by hand. Out not he trail I don't want to be fighting a Dunlop super stiff sidewall. But, I'm riding a KTM 990R with nearly 90,000 miles on it. There also tends to be around 800 miles of high speed interstate between the beach and where I meet up with friends to ride. So, I need longevity, wet roads and dirt capability. I am really enjoying your videos of Sweden and Europe. I found these while looking at T700 videos for a friend who is/was searching for an adventure bike. And being a little bit Swedish in my DNA, curious about the country and riding life there.

The road I’ve found it to be perfectly stable up to 130kph, doesn’t wobble in corners. I’ve only ridden it on cold wet (norwegian) roads once but even then it was fine. Ofc I want riding it like an idiot in the wet. But if you want to have fun off road on a big Adv it’s the best I’ve tried short of a proper motorcross tyre. Michelin’s desert front is also great but don’t think it’s as stable on the road or in tye wet.

They are quite durable. On tarmac: expect good performance and grip. Not too much noise and good braking also in rain. Gravel: Ok grip for accleration, less so for sideway movements. Mud: Hopeless. I would call them 60% road, 40% dirt. If you ride mostly on tarmac and slowish on gravel expect 12k+ km on the back. I can recommend a TCK80 front, I have no experience with an E07+ front.
@adamsjoberrg3 жыл бұрын
Good life-span. Where TKC80s just burn away in 2000km, the Mitas goes for at least 5000 km. Ofc that's when spinning the rear as much as you can everywhere. So if you don't do that surely they will last you longer. Great for asphalt and gravel, worse for rough off road.

I haven't experientet that much with pressures and I don't change pressure depending on terrain. But I usually go a bit lower than what the manual says. 26-29 psi in front and about 31 psi in the rear. It gives a good compromise.

Also taken in consideration that I want a tire which is less prone to punctures and what kind of inner tube do you recommend normal or HD tubes? Krgds Ray

I would personally go on Motoz. They make me feel most secure, have good traction and last forever. I have 12.000 km on mine now and they have still rubber left. They cost more, but you get more. I have 2mm thick tubes in mine now, but 4mm works too. Be sure to use chalk or slime inside the tyre with Motoz if you have tubes. My Motoz dealer recommends it.

Hi Robert, another great video, thanks, im off to Spain/France for a trip across the Pyrenees in September taking in Paved Roads, ACT and a little TET, I have the stock Scorpion Rally STR and like them for road, but as you said if it off road and wet they are not great. Not being an expert in tyres is there specific tube tyre models and if so how do you know.
@NomadSweden Жыл бұрын
Just know that with tubes you can buy any tyre, both tubeless or tubed. Just put the tube in there. Normally tubeless has TL marking and Tubed Tyres are TT.

Entertaining review as always Robert. Have you tried the 140 wide (tubed) Motoz Tractionator on your T7? Just wondering if it would be ok on such a wide rear rim but I’m tempted as it’s a ton cheaper that the 150 tubeless version.
@NomadSweden3 жыл бұрын
I havent tried the 140 size Motoz, but I am sure they will work just as good as the Mitas 140 size. Yes you save a lot so it's worth it for sure.

Right now I'm running a 120 Mitas C-02 on my T7, works fine with a tube in it. I am pretty sure you will not notice any difference between a 140 and 150 tire

What do you suggest for cold season riding? I'm looking at the mitas e07+'s or the e10's. I was looking at the tractionator's adventure or gps but they are both harder rubber.
@NomadSweden Жыл бұрын
Yes Motoz get really slippery when cold. Mitas is a good choice and I like to use it in the cold/wet. Softer rubber, better grip.

Thanks for the video! Was wondering how the Mitas E12/13's perform on wet roads? And can you reuse the original tubes the T7 came with? Thanks again
@NomadSweden3 жыл бұрын
They work well on wet roads because they are quite soft. I use 2mm thick tubes because the oem tubes were not for offroad. Very thin

What you didn't mention with for example the Motoz Tractionator, but what I would expect with such a heavy tire, is that it would affect the handling on the road. Because the tires spin they have significant gyroscopic effect, thus the heavier the tire itself, the more it can slow down turn in speed. Of course not so relevant off-road, but on tarmac I can imagine it matters. Did you find this with the tires you tested as well, or is it somewhat insignificant?
@NomadSweden2 жыл бұрын
Totally insignificant for this kind of tyre and not noticable for normal adv riding.

Tack för att du delar dina erfarenheter! Funderar på att köpa ett par Motoz Adventure till min T7:a. Vilka exakta dimensioner använder du fram och bak?
@NomadSweden2 жыл бұрын

I have a Tenere as well but Motoz write about the Adventure: NOTE: Tube Tyre Tractionator Adventure are specifically designed for single seat enduro class bikes (typically single cyclinder, single seat bikes), where riders want to cover long distance/adventure (don’t use light weight Tube Type on large multi cylinder adventure class bikes). Does that mean they are not for the Tenere??

What do you mean when you say "not the best for twistys"? (Tractionators) Those look like they have a lot of rubber contact. Is it just that they are so hard, they warm up slow? They look like they would be really smooth on the road for what you would also be getting on the dirt. I'm coming up on replacing the stock pirelli scorpion's. I was thinking those Tractionators look pretty good for how I would use them(I think very similar to you; 80/20, mostly road...but I do enjoy offroad occassionally and don't want to be severely compromised when I do). Was also considering maybe getting 2 sets for different types of usage.

I just came back from 8000km trip on the tractionators in warm climate and they still have many miles left. They're awesome. It's just in the colder season in Sweden that they stay hard and slippery all the time. For long trips I use them as No1. But at home I like to use something softer.
