Other than the Beatles themselves the screaming girls are the heroes of Beatlemania. Without them providing the surrounding energy of Beatlemania it never gets off the ground and probably never leaves England. Anyway, it was fun to see the new footage. I hope we can get more of it someday.

Yes, yes, yes. You’re spot on! The world hungers for more Beatles but there is none. I too, was surprised at the family footage of watching them on Ed Sullivan! Any thing about them in print or pictures or recording, I pay attention! Thank you for sharing!

Born in 1961 I have an early memory of going somewhere in the family car with my dad at night - probably in '64. It was a very cold Saskatchewan winter night and She Loves You was playing on the car radio - tinny and low. Cars in those days had a distinctive smell - sort of a cross between gasoline and upholstery. This was distinctive in cold weather. There was a yellow light at a railway crossing. I often remember these whenever I hear She Loves You. Anyway I'm a Beatle fan ever since and saw Paul McCartney in concert in 2012

I got really emotional watching the doc. I love hearing stories from people who were around at the time. Their love for The Beatles was so pure and the Beatles *deserved* it. Paul McCartney is the coolest person to ever walk the planet.

Loved hearing your take on this documentary. I got up early and watched it and was sorta bummed at how little of the Beatles that they showed, but I watched it later in the day and enjoyed it much more. I am a fan from 1964 and it's hard to remember that these shows are mostly for the newer fans and that there is not too much Beatle related that I have not seen. It was fun hearing your thoughts, your love definitely shines through ! Take care ✌💖

Very much enjoyed your review. It’s refreshing to hear the younger generation’s reaction and perspective. I think this new documentary is aimed at folks perhaps not so well acquainted with The Beatles however anything that helps introduce them to a new audience has to be a good thing. Personally, I’d have preferred more Beatles performances in the documentary. I hope we might yet have a remastered US First Visit release which is my preferred way to enjoy this footage. Hats off to everyone involved in restoring / remastering footage for Beatles ‘64… it’s never looked better. All the best from Scotland 🏴

I love your review on BEATLES '64. Ed Sullivan was live playing at different time zones. My sister (5-yrs) and I (6-yrs) did see The Beatles that early evening west coast time. The band were really playing live (no pre-recorded music). So much screaming in the studio, but I caught the bug too. I was Beatle fan.

Awesome overview! I was also hoping for more actual new footage and would definitely been surprised if there was Maysles brothers footage that hadn’t already been used that was worth watching given the other projects that had already been released. This one seemed to rely on others perspectives and reactions (and I think the woman who you mentioned in your review was Leonard Bernstein’s daughter.. so I think a bit of irony was intended- her dad wrote West Side Story and Candide, but she gets emotional when hearing the Beatles music? Of course we do!!) I really liked Seth Swirsky’s 2011 Beatles Stories dvd because it was cram packed with wonderful personal stories and reactions and now I’m excited to rewatch it again! It truly is wonderful to watch the 1964 era performances in perfect quality.. such an improvement over what I remember seeing in the early days of video!! Thank you Jackie!

Yes! They cut out my favorite part when Paul says We ain't got no poetry! He genuinely looks concerned...like he's going to have to write some poems fast!

JFK's assassination in November 1963 was a political earthquake × 10. The Beatles' arrival in America in February 1964 was a musical/cultural earthquake x 10. It's incredible that both events occurred only 2 1/2 months apart and whose reverberations are still felt today.

"The First US Visit" is still the best, even for new fans. The Maysles Brothers shot 11 hours on this trip--only a few minutes of unused footage was included here--very disappointing. The rest talking heads, stock newsreels and clips we've all seen before. Using latter day songs like "In My Life" seem jarring for a doc that had so much to choose from in that exciting year of 1964. Like Ron Howard's colorized mess I give this a B-. Hopefully they'll make up for it by releasing a disc that includes a fully restored DC concert.

I just finished watching the documentary, and like everyone else, I wished that it was more focused on the Maysles' found footage. If they had filmed with the Beatles for two weeks, there had to have been a lot of footage considering the Maysles are the same men behind such iconic documentaries like "Grey Gardens" (my mother's favorite), "Iris" (my favorite), and "Gimme Shelter". Hopefully this will get the "Get Back" treatment one day. The scenes with all the girls had me laughing, especially the one that screamed "OH DARN!!!" when she learned her friend couldn't hand the boys a petition. Then there's the girls who wanted to give Ringo two SF books. What were the titles and can they send me a copy?

Vi un video de esos días de febrero 7, en yutub, (aún no veo el documental Beatles'64): Una chica fan le dice al periodista: "la nariz de Ringo es--sexy", y otra chica de lentes dice "las pestañas de George son sexys" ¡

Hi Jackie-I agree with your evaluation; would have liked more footage -1964 was my favorite Beatles year -I would have also liked more of focus on songs vs the political influence of the group-the shots of screaming girls is priceless, takes one back to a more innocent time -the Beatles phenomenon will likely never be repeated , but their music greatness will ensure their story lives on
