Okay, but if you know that it takes 120 days for a BM figlet to mature into a ripe fig (in your climate) then you can pick off all figlets which form after a cutoff date. It is pointless to allow the tree to waste energy on all those useless late figs which will be discarded. Also a head-start in a greenhouse is pretty much required for BM in the north.

Great information Sir and yes your Encanto pronunciation is flawless! You dont happen to have some UCD or EF Black Madeira cutting for sale from this pruning season?

Thank you for clearing up where you got the Rei from. Hopefully I can keep that one going and spread it throughout the community.

Hi John I also collect fig trees. Would you sell me a cutting to keep this variety circulating as much as possible. We have a responsibility to keep these varieties from going extinct. Thanks

I could NEVER OWN one of these, specifically as a newbie but I enjoyed watching your video. To be honest, although I'll never taste one, I think this variety is hyped too much. I do dream of the black ischia though. Thank you for sharing.

Have you ever considered ripening those figs under lights? That's quite a lot of fruit on them for this time of year. I know there are a few forum members that have ripened BM successfully under lights.

I did bring a tree in for the winter once and had it in a southern facing window all winter. Growing them inside brings it own set of challenges and cost. It is still going to be in the 60's to low 70's in the house and that is pretty cool for the fig tree. A fig tree needs about 100 chill hours to improve fig production. It just depends on how much effort you want to put into it.

Perfect you know this type as it is cz lots of ppl on youtube fake around Black Madeira with other types. BM leaves are different & have no fingers.

Hope I can take care of your baby like you would lol! Wonder how she will do in the desert.

That tree has gone dormant so I would leave it out of direct sun until it acclimates to your zone.

New England Gardening so it’s only in the 70s day 50 night I figured it would be ok if dormant to go in the ground. All my fig trees do amazing in the ground and just ok in pots. If it doesn’t have leafs and dormant I didn’t think I would have any acclimation problems. So since you brought the up I will put shade cloth over just to be safe? Out humidity has been 30%. Right now is when we plant in Vegas. My trees go dormant end of November.
