Hey, just wanted to let you know that yes, the weapons featured in the key art are what they're going to look like upon release. The reason why the shotgun looked exactly the same on the teaser was because they didn't get around to modelling the weapons yet, aside from the Pistols which being Lara's key sidearms got priority. Also, in a screenshot where we see the Guardian of the Talion, we can see Lara using the updated shotgun model in game, so no need to worry on that front. Also, I'm excited for this. As they say, you don't have to fix what aint broke, I really like the gameplay of the original 3, and what I've wanted for years is a fresh coat of paint for the first 3.

a big pleasant surprise would be an updated version of the tomb raider level editor.. I do think that they used the pc version for the code, I may be dreaming but god I want that do bad, if not now they could still do that for the next remaster if there is one. I was hype in September, even better now with those news ! better than what we saw in September, I hope to see the collector with the backpack at the release date, could be good with a physical edition.

I played all the Aspyr games on Mac. They were great ports, and in fact included a few small differences from the PC versions (Lara said “Aha” in Tomb Raider 1 because Tomb Raider 2 had already been ported, for example). Some of the lighting seemed better, especially in Tomb Raider 3. I think the remasters are in great hands.

I assume that Aspyr went through the original engine in order to patch out some of the bugs in the engine and these are probably based on the PC versions of the games especially since if you look at the footage of Tomb Raider 3 that was shown off with the OG graphics it’s not as dark as the PS1 version which is infamous for being hard to see especially in places like Lud’s Gate where it’s impossible to see anything in that level on the PS1 version.

This was such an amazing article, it hit all the right spots! If it's fully genuine and no marketing-speak, and I assume it is, we're in for such a treat on February 14 and beyond!😍 And if it's not (fully), they can indeed always (slightly) update it later on, and we still have the old releases of course (I have all games/expansions running smoothly on my old Windows Vista pc, so the remasters only have upside potential and no downward risk for me). This release is very good news from a game preservation perspective ànd for the simple fact that more people ((hopefully) also (a lot of) complete newcomers) will now be able to (easily) play the Tomb Raider classics, truly monuments in gaming history (who knows the positive effects that may have, also on the Tomb Raider community itself). My excitement level is about the same I think (it's in my line of expectations), I'm not really hyped but I am happy/satisfied (for now that is, let's see what happens/if that will change). Thanks so much again for providing your thoughts/analysis, it was a joy to listen to!🥰

I'm old enough to remember playing the originals. My daughter had a PS1 when she was 6 and I had a go on Tomb Raider 1, it prompted me to buy my own console and copy of the game so I didn't hog hers 😂 Always been my favourite game of all time, despite the clunky controls and diabolical puzzles that you could literally get stuck on for days! I just loved Tomb Raider!! Have bought every single Tomb Raider game that has ever been brought out since. To say I'm excited about the Remastered games is an understatement...I can hardly contain myself! Whether this generation of youngsters will have the patience to stay the course remains to be seen, but I urge them not to make comparisons with the likes of 'The Last Of Us Remastered'. Modern games are superior graphically in every single way, also some of the puzzles on TR are pretty tough. but from what I've seen of the Tomb Raider Remastered trailers to my eyes it looks pretty awesome compared with the TR of old. I think what I loved most about TR was the fact that you had to try an awful lot harder than modern games to make it through each level, the game never held your hand, so to speak like games do today, so kids, if you find yourself reaching for Google to find out what to do next, try and resist, because one of the biggest joys of TR is working it out yourself and getting a real buzz out of a sense of self achievement. Roll on Feb 14th

Great video. Thanks for sharing. I get what you're saying about Aspyr being made up of different devs and stuff now, but the main benefit of them doing these ports again is that they have the original source codes. As such, they are likely to have a record of what they did back then, problems they encountered etc, which would make potential hurdles easier for them to overcome. I also hope the fun bugs/glitches remain, and as for the sound changes, I don't mind the idea of something like a universal pistol effect on all 3 games as long as it's possible to toggle back. As for the home thing, I'm wondering if they are as they appeared in the originals and accessible by the wheel menu, but that maybe they'll have made like a master hub home unlockable, which fills up with the various items, secrets and maybe even enemy busts as you pick them up/beat them. That would be nice and wouldn't impact the original experience of Croft Manor for purists. I'd love if Nathan McCree's TR Suite was toggle-able for those who might want the music sounding a bit fresher with the newer graphics - it already exists, so there is no need for any additional recording to facilitate this feature. The main additions I'd love would be like what Nightdive did with the Quake remasters - concept materials, documents and even a playable archive of any unique demos or incomplete levels never before made available from during the original development. As for the FMVs, I think for consistency it would be nice to see them remade with the new in-game graphics when those are toggled on. That way they'd appear identical to the in-game cutscenes, which I think would flow better visually and not result in a break of immersion. This wouldn't stop them tidying and upscaling the originals for those wanting a purer experience when playing with the original graphics toggled on.
@zelgadis11511 ай бұрын
While I'm doubtful about them going through the licensing process of integrating Nathan's Orchestral Suite into the game, I actually prefer some of his Orchestral tracks to the original, but also some of the Originals to the Orchestral ones. I think this will be likely the case for modders to patch in :) But I'm definitely having high hopes about unlockable cheats, concept arts or behind the scenes, a-la TR Anniversary unlockable extras!

I'm not that familiar with TR3, I've essentially beaten it 1.9 times (lost my save at Antarctica first time around 😆), but I think there was a zip line in one of the India levels, over some piranhas or something perhaps? I would imagine there are at least a handful more but that's the only one that came to mind 😆 And yeah, I don't like some of the achievement philosophy that some people have... Especially when it's something that relies on luck and you can't replicate consistently even if you're good at a game, I think at that point it's just making it hard for the sake of making it hard. It was also fun to see her wearing something like the ripped dress in something like Nepal, or seeing two Amandas/Natlas in cutscenes lol By the way, since you're playing them in DuckStation, I'm sure you know about bilinear filter (I now use no edge blending since the other one caused a white outline in borders of transparent tree textures in silent hill 1) and possibly about the wobbly effect fix, but I also recommend setting the aspect ratio to something like "PAR" (1:1) since these PS1 versions also seem to be squished up

Aaaand, I just realized there is also a zipline in Thames Wharf level :) But the achievement icon shows Lara in her Croft Manor outfit, so I think something to do with the assault course. A way to make the original games more accessible to modern players while being essentially the same games. The aim is not the same and both games can coexist because of that
@3RDplayer11 ай бұрын
How did "modern controls" work out for Resident Evil Remake Remastered? Poorly! Tank Controls are rough for zoomers, they touch them for a few seconds, then hate them and return to modern 3D controls. But the modern 3D controls are not made for that type of game. So they run into walls, get confused when camera angles change, etc. Which is the same experience they would have if they stuck with tank controls. But they would get used to tank controls very quickly compared to modern controls if they would have kept using them. The running into walls would stop quickly, the confusion when camera angles change would be gone too. Holding down forward will always move the character forward, regardless of camera position. 3D controls don't have that luxuary. But after using modern controls the entire time, zoomers then still blame the original tank controls for being bad even tho they havent even used them. (after watching countless zoomers streaming these games) TR is not fixed camera, yet it uses tank controls. Yet it will be interesting to see how zoomers will perceive modern vs tank in TR. I expect many zoomers dying to the few escape sequences that are in these games when the camera actually switches, due to modern controls changing which direction will be forward.
@Eden_bxi11 ай бұрын
i feel like they'll also change the fixed camera in certain moments when people use modern controls. with how they're working on this, i doubt they'll leave that aspect half assed. there is a mod for angel of darkness where it switched the tank controls to modern controls with the camera too and imo it worked perfectly fine for that game. the only issue would be the grid system and the fixed camera angles if they dont tweak those. the reboot games also have fixed camera angles for running away action areas sometimes but the controls still stay the same so i dont think that would be hard to implement.
@theendisnear113111 ай бұрын
i'm afraid for those who choose use modern control are going to receive a bad experience, lara animations are not made for that, the results can be very strange and some jumps can be even more difficult to perform than normal
@zelgadis11511 ай бұрын
I'm trying to have an open mind about the modern controls until we get to try them out, but yes, I'm having a hard time imagining they'll be as precise as the tank controls
@unsavourylittlerunt11 ай бұрын
I think they will work perfectly fine for anyone familiar with the mechanics (and even make the game easier), but the main problem I see is how Lara doesn't stop running immediately and the reliance on walking (especially for new players). I want to believe they'll keep walking bound to a button because oh my, it would be terrible if you had to use the joystick sensitivity to walk 😂 Hopefully they add some kind of warning before starting a new game that explains the Croft manor setting is a tutorial, since that wasn't clear in the original if you didn't read the manuals (I assume). Although hmm, I do wonder how are they gonna implement the backstep in that case TL;DR I think the (modern) controls will be slightly modernized, but nothing that drastically changes the way the game is played (and thus, the game might still feel clunky to new players, just slightly less so)

@@theendisnear1131 I don't see a problem with lateral jumps because you can press the jump button first and there's a generous window for you to press any directional button before she jumps. As for the backstep, I'm sure they could just add some button combination or something to add it, but they could also make it so the D-Pad always uses tank controls like RE1 and 0 remasters. The remaster is a half-assed cash grab. The new graphics mode has weird shadows that appear where they shouldn't. The new graphics slightly altered camera has even more issues than the original. The new graphics make a lot of areas too dark. The modern controls are poorly done and are unusable for this grid based system. I have had the camera be across the map and point at me as if this was a fixed camera game a few times while placing. The cinematics look worse and are again way too dark. They did nothing to actually improve the games.. a just a halfassed visual update that objectively looks worse than the original textures.
@TerenceA7211 ай бұрын
This is literally killing me inside, It's a re-skin and about an hours worth of coding on the controls (I should add for a grid based game that won't work properly with a modern control scheme). The gaming industry is rapidly following the film industry the only difference is in the gaming sphere people are crying out for and celebrating it! These games were ported to everything, Literally everything they would work on had a version (look at the Nokia Ngage) and 30 years later there's a mad cry of praise for a re-skin that isn't even that good, The T-Rex looks laughable. The game looks like someone has put a snapchat filter on it, Look at the info they are giving out 'We knew we would use the original engine' Ok so why are they talking about performance? Anyone watching this on a phone? Guess what, your phone is seriously over powered for this game! But performance is a talking point. This is a re-skin, plain and simple.
