I read Normal People in January 2021 and Conversations with Friends in January 2022 and they gave me a best kick start to the year as I finished them so easily and quickly which made me get in the overall mood for reading voraciously throughout the year! Also, yes, her characters are super flawed but somehow I wanted to continue going because I was so invested in their lives 😭 I don’t know about Beautiful World but the other two didn’t have quotation marks and it was the only con for me while reading them, I guess you heard the audiobook so it didn’t matter that much to you? Overall I’m obsessed w her writing style and will also read whatever she publishes 😭❤️❤️

It's the same with me....kind of. I did not go crazy about Normal People and Conversations with Friends but I do agree with you on wanting to read whatever she publishes! Also, Beautiful World, Where Are You didn't have quotation marks either lol. I didn't find it that challenging tbh but now if I re-read it, I know the absence of quotation marks will bother me( glass shattering effect maybe lol).

I was really excited to read Normal People and finally when I was done reading it, honestly, I hated it. There was a lot of toxicity but as you said, I think it is all about understanding contemporary dating and relationships. Yet, I wasn’t able to accept what was going on in the book and it totally wasn’t my cup of tea. A lot of scenes were disgusting. I’m not a big fan of Sally Rooney’s writing too. It’s easy to understand and gripping but it gets confusing with the dialogues going on without the quotes. I don’t think I’d read another book if the stories are so raw.

I totally understand this actually. Normal People triggered me SO much but I liked her writing style a lot at the same time so despite the toxicity, this book held my interest. I tried articulating all my thoughts in this video but still there are certain things even I don't understand about me wanting to read her books.

I read Normal People and frankly, I felt it was an overrated book. I don't know if I would like to read her other books but after your review, I'm thinking of giving 'Beautiful World Where Are You' a try.

Beautiful World, Where Are You can be frustrating too but it's wholesome so yeah it's better than Normal People in that regard.

for me, normal people was my fave out of these 3 books. i liked BWWAY the least, because i didn't feel anything for the characters and the story itself wasn't for me i guess. but i feel the same about sally rooney, she's a brilliant writer, i relate to her characters a lot, can't wait to read more from her!

Yeah there is a lot of talk about Sally Rooney books. I tried a sample of NORMAL PEOPLE but did not like it. The mood of it was quite depressing. As an adult these fizzy YA contemporary dating or confused relationship stories do not appeal to me at all. These books are for GenY s. I agree that whoever is okay with contemporary dating or does not bothered by toxic relationships they can try these tittles. I think these tittles and specially the writing style is not for everyone.
