Y'know who this version of Picard reminds me of? The Picard we see briefly when Q saves his life from the heart injury by changing history. It's a brief scene, but Stewart subtly plays Picard as someone who has never taken charge or taken a risk in his life when interacting with Riker. THAT'S who this Picard feels like, like as if Picard had permanently accepted Q's deal and remained that impotent little man. I think I know why the ships all look so much uglier. Original Star Trek was about heroes interacting with antagonists who often had a point and could often be light antiheroes rather than true villains. The colors were often about coding this. The colors said that these were the noblest of the noble and their antagonists were often also pretty noble people who were wrongheaded about one or two issues. This modern coloration codes everyone a different way. This is about poor morally grey antiheroes fighting pure evil straight from Hell. This is a story where the "heroes" would be villains in older Trek stories, and the villains are the kind of absolute nauseating monsters that the old shows only had once or twice a season, back when the seasons were much longer than they are now.

The uniforms get a "refresh" every movie and show so I expected it. These are not the worst and not the best. So far I'm actually ok with the ship design except for the odd triangle things at the Utopia Planitia attack, those were the only design I hated so far. I even think holographic communication makes sense...... So that's all picard. on Discovery the only thing I didn't mind so much was the uniforms....at first. Part of that was my confusion. I thought discovery was like a black ops off the book project to win the war at any cost. I won't re-watch it to verify that but I swear episode 3 or 4 that's how it is presented. That's why they can abuse the tardigrade animal. Have a human getting killed to make the jumps....cause it was all illegal and off the books.....but at some point they change it to where only the captain guy is doing that. I think if they would have called it "Star Trek: Black ops" and made it only one season and let them go full Jason Bourne and ended it with learning that the abuse of power may have helped stop the open war with the Klingons but killed women and children and is why the Klingons hate the federation even in the TNG time after the peace treaty that'd have been better. It would not be "Trek" and trekkies would still cry like a gender studies trannie but it's have been better

I was annoyed by his arrogance at the start of the episode......"I never thought they would accept my resignation." I mean REALLY?? TNG Picard was never this self absorbed and arrogant in his own superiority. To even think you are so important that a massive interplanetary force numbering in the millions cannot survive without you is just......completely bonkers!! Also, smoking? We have never seen anyone smoking in any of the past ST series. The reason being, humanity is supposed to have "grown up". We finally concluded it was bad for us and stopped it altogether. Nope. We'll be vaping and puffing on cigars now. One highlight certainly was seeing Picard get his ass kicked over a table when the Romulans attacked the chateau. That did give me a laugh. The story just feels so disjointed. It doesn't seem to be flowing well at all. And the final moment at the end with "Engage".......it didn't have the effect it was supposed to have in making me feel warm and fuzzy. It felt forced. Cringeworthy. If this is an indicator of what's to come, then it doesn't bode well. Its pretty clear sadly the show looks to be a vanity project for Patrick Stewart, and the only thing they DO seem to have gotten right, is that Picard's character in the show is now practically a carbon copy of how Patrick now is in reality. Old. Twisted, and pretty bitter!!

Continuity error: When Picard resigns the four pips on his uniform show him to be a captain. How come that later on he is addressed as an admiral?
@Wraithage795 жыл бұрын
To be fair, they're in a box. In TNG, DS9, and VOY pips within a box indicated either commodore or admiral. 1 pip - commodore, 2 pips - rear admiral, 3 pips - vice admiral, 4 pips - full admiral. I think they intended to show Picard as a full admiral. But that's weird in and of itself. There shouldn't be many full admirals, and they would be senior policy makers. Like, CinC level, which he obviously wasn't, since Raffi was summoned to the CinC's office in the same scene.
@MTTT12344 жыл бұрын
I guess it is more meant as an honorary rank, rather than the title he has at that moment. As Admiral was the highest rank he ever had and what he achieved with it. So even when he was not an Admiral anymore, they stil refered to him as one to honor him maybe?
@DougMorley14 жыл бұрын
@@MTTT1234 I stand corrected on this technical issue. I believe that in the military (army. navy, air force), captains and above keep their rank titles as a courtesy once they leave. However on a related point would anyone of Commander rank ever address a Captain let alone an Admiral as anything other than "sir" while they are in uniform. ("JL" never!!) It might be different when both are no longer serving but is a grave case of insubordination otherwise. Now that is a continuity error. It also shows a weakness in Picard for his acceptance which could be intentional in the writer's view

I made it through 7 minuets of this video and I feel I need an award for making it this far.

I literally joked when I first heard Picard was coming out that there'd be some blasian woman who is a ninja-scientist-doctor-spy and capable of killing hundreds of warriors trained since birth to fight. Because it's almost in everything these days. And sure enough episode one ... boom. But the irritating part is that ALL positions of authority are filled with women, exclusively non-white, the few 'white' characters portrayed with white passing Jewish people. And all men are buffoons and doormats. It's the usual propaganda. Which is why I always private entertainment and haven't paid a cent to these evil subversive fuckers since 1995.

Going into your Norn Iron accent had me in stitches. The Americans would need subtitles for that one!
