The series needs a break and a recast. What I would like to see is a return to multi episode serials. This can both allow reduced spending as effects, sets costumes and guest actor costs are spread out over multiple episodes. It also means just better cheracterisation. Old Who did not rely entirely on the key players. In many cases the main characters became the ones introduced for that little serials. Whilst most other TV sci-fi has grown up since the Dr Who 2005 return it has gone backwards degenerating in to stupidity and ham acting.

I love the Final Frontier. My favourite characters are engaging in this movie. Such wonderful scenes that are funny and emotional. This is a very good movie. Those who did not like it, have other priorities. They love action, violence and dramatic overtures with villains. Which I love as well but this is so much fun and the acting is the best in such a real familiar way. Uhura dancing on a sand dune by the light of some distant planets, priceless. This Star Trek will stand the test of time alone for its charm.

Star Trek Discovery the first two seasons were extremely good. It gave us new and undiscovered folklore is what a story should be, and build upon the 1960s version to the 1980s version. Life evolves and so should we either you keep up or get left behind.

4:25 As someone who loves Star Trek (2009) and Into Darkness, I can see why you wouldn't like to consider them a part of Star Trek proper. I haven't seen the original shows (or the new ones), but I've seen all of the original movies (other than 1 and 3). The Voyage Home is my favorite of those films. However, I'm a Star Wars fan, so Abrams bringing the pacing of Star Wars into Star Trek was absolutely fantastic!

From a very old sci-fi fan. Solaris is a terrific film. Yes it’s slow. It’s truly a unique concept for an alien sentient being. That is - the entire planet is that entity. My fav dialogue is near the end of the film when Clooney asks his lover AM I STILL ALIVE.? She responds WE DONT HAVE TO THINK LIKE THAT ANYMORE. I can only imagine the perpetual bliss of a life (even if that life is an illusion) in that state of being - especially with a partner you love - for all eternity.

Star Trek died in 2007. No disrespect to Scott Bakula and the incredible cast of Enterprise, but Star Trek should of jumped ahead 100 or 200 years after Voyager. Y'know, go where no one has gone before, not go back to prologue shows 'cuz we're terrified of the future and undiscovered space.

I would like to see the lost era in a series. Starship design from Star Trek: 2-6 was really good and seeing some of the more kit bashed fan designs like the akula would be cool and there’s a ton of room for new material that can follow cannon.

Deep Space Nine and Voyager will forever be my Star Trek that I grew up with, today's trek is just full of gore, dark lighting and shoddy scripts. The Orville is where I look for a good Star Trek. I honestly think that Seth Macfarlane could easily save Star Trek.

There is an excellent explanation by Midnights Edge about the Kelvin timeline and the license between CBS and Paramont when the Prime/Kelvin movies was made and went along with the Disco and the subsequent series. The main part that is made is that Canon and Prime are very different aspects of the Star Trek narritive. Prime is a reboot that uses parts of Canon as background while throwing away anything that conflicts, such as the exploding planet that still exists in Canon. The 25% difference is still being used by all the shows, and the last episode of Lower Decks plays with that as will as making Discovery be outside of Prime and Canon.

I agree, after Enterprise (which bothered me that it looked more futuristic that TOS) was the last thing in my eyes that was actually Star Trek. Everything after that was only Star Trek in title, but was absolutely not Star Trek. And yes, Prequels are not needed nor wanted. We need to expand the future of Star Trek, and not bland looking ships that have parts separate from the main body of the ship...that was hideous.

I have to agree on almost all points. I'm quite looking forward to S3 of SNW. When I stop to analyse why, it comes down to this; it's the closest the franchise has come to the feel of the OG universe in recent years. Maybe it's me, but Anton plays Pike closer to Kirk than Paul Wesley plays the character he's supposed to be portraying!

I liked the Kelvin timeline. Knowing it was an alternate timeline was fact. I hated Discovery. Loved Picard especially season 3. Love storage new worlds. Really hope that they do a legends series with the set up at the end of Picard season 3. Lower decks is an awesome love letter to the fans who have loved all of it with all the Easter eggs and nods to original cannon!

Star Trek would be the easiest series to fix this problem with. Unlike Star Wars or Lord of the Rings alternate universes and timelines have existed in Star Trek since the original series so making the messes of the last 15 years could be done fairly easily with a smart set of writers. It would be frustrating to fans of the new series and movies, and also with the old fans being very weary of the recent debacle may be difficult to get reinvested in new series and movies. Not that it couldn’t be done, but the new creators would have to be aware that the transition may take time to take off and gain popularity. Still just getting a team together that respects the original vision of Roddenberry would go a long way to healing those mistakes.

I did enjoy this film when I saw it and it made me really excited to see how the HBO series would turn out. Although the time jumping aspect was a little annoying I thought season 1 was really good. After that it fell off a cliff. Season 2 was bad and I stopped watching after that. I’ve heard season 3 was even worse so it disappointed me that it fell victim to the same things that destroyed shows like Game of Thrones and modern movies as well. If only we could see things like the original film. It’s sad when thinking things from the past are better and it’s actually true. Most of the time it’s just nostalgia blinding reality!

Good writing. That's how you save Hollywood. Get rid of sexuality in every goddamn scene. Even the appearance of a sexually amorphous or heightened character draws attention to themselves. Get rid of it. The ONLY time you need a sexualized character, is when THAT is focus of the story. Outside of that, it should not be in the story. Period. That is how you save Hollywood, Star Trek, and every other damn IP beign destroyed. And yes, having women in EVERY SINGLE LEAD ROLE is sexualizing the stories, and thus destroying the stories!

I haven’t watched No Way Home, so if it is worse than Far from Home I’m glad I haven’t watched it. Far from Home was idiotic and silly. Post Endgame, and even a bit before, Marvel films have all been mediocre at best. The plots have been weak, characters know things they shouldn’t unless they are spectators, and things happen just to move the plot along, and Far from Home is no different. I did like Jake Gyllenhall as Mysterio, but otherwise the film was ridiculous, especially knowing what happens after you’ve watched it. You think your opinion is controversial, try that one.

Picard? Shit. Especially the first two seasons. The third season was generally terrible as well, save for some of the nostalgia bone tickling. Disco was also shit. Mostly because of boring and unsympathetic characters who were also unfortunately forgettable. I mean there's Burnham, Georgiou, Doug Jones, and... Lizard guy? Robot girl? Mushroom dude? Doc Fabulous? Ensign Mary Sue Redhead? And my favourite: Booker (he's my favourite because it always sounded to me like everyone called him Mr. Booger). SNW is also mostly just a nostalgia trip, but the characters are generally likeable, sympathetic, and memorable. But fuck off for lumping Lower Decks and Prodigy in with the trash-tier Disco and Picard. Lower Decks is just good Star Trek. Competent people doing their jobs well (as what the skeleton of all Star Trek is). But the tone is comedic. So what? If it was just a rehash of TNG, people would lambast it for being unoriginal. Star Trek is old enough now that one of the ways to keep it interesting is for it to examine itself, which is what LD does. It's not like Trek has never been generally light-hearted and funny in the past; accusing it of that would be simply incorrect. It's because, just like all good fiction, the moral and exploratory elements are examined through a lens that elevates them - in this case, comedy. Lower Decks is a love letter from Trek to Trek, created, produced, and performed by a vast array of Trek luminaries and fans. It is pastiche and palimpsest. The worst thing to happen to Trek in a long time is its cancellation. That you shit on it just tells me that you don't "get" Star Trek. Prodigy is good again because of the generally interesting characters, the overarching story, and most importantly the inconscient lens of those characters. They bring a sense of wonderment back to the franchise by looking at it through the eyes of youth. They explore not only the stars, but themselves (again, which is what all good science fiction is really about). Star Trek is, generally, a morality play. What better way to explore ourselves than through the lens of innocense and youth? The only thing that ended in 2005 was shit Star Trek. Enterprise was another garbage show that was too embarrassed to even be called Star Trek until the producers tacked that bit on as an attempt at a saving throw. It has literally 3 or 4 good episodes in the entire run. Rick Berman and Brannon Braga are shit people and any good Trek that happened during their tenure was in spite of them rather than because of them. Also, if anyone feels lead-fumes induced rage at reading this and you respond with poorly thought out and even more poorly worded replies, my response is likely to be limited to, "Ok, boomer."
