The solution for the top not operating while your driving at slow speeds would be a smart top module that lets you operate the top at low speeds and you can operate it with the key fob as well. Have it on mine and its great.

Hi, being a Mercedes Owner, I suggest you learn to do some of the maintenances your self like oil and filter. Change oil and filter every 5-6k with redline oil/ mahle filter. Find an indi shop or a mechanic. Buy OEM parts from Pelican Parts, FCP Euro. By OEM I mean the same company that makes it for Mercedes. Like Sachs makes the shocks for mercedes, so if you buy the sachs brand you save $$ over mercedes brand. For AC repairs go to an ac shop, fro trans repairs go to a trans shop. Change the trans fluid every 30-40k with redline fluids. I just checked pelican parts, you can buy TRW brake pads for as low as $95 for the front pads. FCP Euro has Brembo front rotors for $572 vs $950+ for mercedes brand; rear rotors can be had for $100 each. So that $3500 brake job would have cost you $1560 in parts and Probably $400 in labor. Or learn to do it yourself. The front rotors on this car is expensive, usually they are $100ish each. So getting parts from online retailers and shopping around and using indi shops you will save $$.

P I Brake job is $600-700 parts and labor for 4x rotors & pads. If you get your own parts and you have a good reasonable Indy, maintenance on SL55 is not that bad at all. Mine has all the hydraulic suspension gutted out so there is not much else left to worry about.

I purchased an '07 SL55 AMG about 4 years ago from Mercedes as a CPO, which I thought was very unusual for it's age, but think they know how well they are built. I don't have the panoramic roof and other things you have, but I did get carbon fiber interior. I did have to replace the front rotors (@ about $1000/each) and know that pain too. Mine is black exterior with the same interior as yours (pulse on your seats?) and I had it wrapped with black satin. Owners of newer SL's have stopped me and asked about mine. 02-06 between 8k-35k depending on clean title or salvage low or hi miles. 07-08 last year of these supercharged SL anywhere from 25k-40k depending on miles,clean title or salvage and if it’s a P30 package other then that 07-08 holds its value much higher then 06 and below. 07-08 had the bigger 80mm Tb vs 02-06 with 74mm tb.

Don't know who did your brakes and rotors but I did mine using zimmerman rotors and Pagit OEM pads, total was $400 for front and rear. I put them in myself, super easy, just like any other cars. Remember to disconnect SBC harness before starting.

Sweet whip. Just like mine. Do some long tubes, x pipe and ditch the resos keep the rear mufflers. Pulley / tune. Weistec , Renntech, Eurocharged , Kleeman any of them. You will be glad you did.

Good video, if you want top operation in motion get the smart top module. $300 and you can use the top up to 30mph, operate the top via remote, and cycle the top with a single touch of the roof switch. Was my favorite mod and highly recommend.

I put a 77mm pulley, XXL plm heat ex, split cooled, one step colder plugs, and tune and I literally take out every car where I'm from, and yes even those camaros ss, LT1 don't matter and the one I beat last week had that 10speed transmission, but would like to go against an zl1 this, now that would be an interesting roll

It’s funny to see people complain about maintenance costs. First of all the initial price for the vehicle was 130K, things aren’t going to be cheap for a car this caliber. Just because it has depreciated significantly doesn’t mean the parts do too. High performance vehicle = high price repairs. I recently purchased an ‘04 SL500 with only 39K and have had a few costly repairs, but the warranty picked those up. My suggestion would be to GET A WARRANTY when purchasing an SL or any used vehicle. You’ll be glad when you see how much repairs would be!

The trans was never fast, not even compared to an early 90s truck, but "its hard to keep it in the powerband" um, this is a supercharged v8, the powerband is like from 2000rpm to the rev limeter at like 6500 the statement that its hard to keep it in the power is just not true.

The 2003 year model was supposedly bought by one youtuber for $8900 but it wasn't in that great of shape. This year model 2007 is correctly priced at around 35-40K.

Only? They only imported 500 Mazda RX7’s in 1995. That is why they are one of very few cars that turn heads, more fun then the yacht that is the SL (own both) and only one has doubled in resale and it is not the SL. Dime a dozen. SL 55 AMG or otherwise looks the same from 2003 to 2008. Like mosquitos in summer. Its a pretty car that is a cinvenient convertible that will last a long tome except the ABC, convertible top and regular maintenence. $$$$$

Yeah but 5 speed tranny is insanely reliable and tough... Sound system is so important too man! My 335i has the logic 7 and I know it's a 2008 but man, it still sounds awesome! You got my sub from the sound system comment dude for real. I'm trying to find me next ride, I think I'll keep my 335i but with 134k on it, it's getting up there. I wish MB made more modern straight 6 cars... I might go 340i but meh, that fucking electric steering truly sucks. What else is there on the used market that is mechanical, fast, rides good, good seats and stereo... Idk.

Austin Campbell My post is not about value. Your claim is also false. What do you define as value? Financial? Worth? Emotion? Every part of an AMG parts and service is significantly more expensive to repair, parts and maintain yet both cars look exactly the same except the engine compartment. My 2006 was optioned out with every option available. The ABC and convertible top is the same mechanics and subject to the same failure rate. So, the car has slightly more torque and horse power as a trade off to cost and its that very thing that nakes these cars less desirable to own and depreciate further. Just look at the cost of an AMG 65. Nobody wants all that expense and power in an oudsted design that looks exactly the same as a base model. In fact, the base model holds their value financially greater than the other. Check your facts and actuality. Without the straight side skirt and AMG badge and a 0 missing after 55, it looks like any other SL. People buy the car for the most part the convertibke and styling, not power. In a world of 70 mph speed limits, what is the point? People buy from those who aren’t power minded because they typically abuse the car.

Had mine for 7 years, beautiful car. Transmission shifts fast enough, especially when you anticipate the going and coming out of the turns. Sure, its not one of the automated dual clutch manuals, but a traditional planetary gear hydraulic automatic with electronic shifting. Sure, only 5 gears, but with the torque from 1600 - 5800 RPM you really only need 2 like my old powerglide... Did many a twisty roads with the paddle shifters fine. Almost as fast as heal and toe on my old ZR1 which it replaced. Night and day for comfort on the cars, though the less weight on the vett made it more dynamic.

let me tell you man, you will have a depreciation. The car is 30,000. In case something does break and you want to sell it due to it being too pricey to repair, they'll be happy to just give you 15k. Then it's either that or having it repaired. These cars are expensive to own. If you're smart and a bit lucky, you drive it for a bit without maintenance and then get rid of it asap...
