It took me two years into my adult collecting of knives to even look at a Sebenza. When I first started, I couldn't even wrap my head around why people had any interest in them. Many years, innovations, flipping mechanisms etc.. later, I still think it's the perfectly engineered knife. It's refreshing to hear you go into all of the details that reinforce us fans that it is still the masterpiece that it is.

I love my sebenza. I think the thing about them is just the tolerance. The little but also very big differences in tolerance is the reason for the price difference. They are perfect, and will always remain perfect. And they come with a perfect price. I just wish they would experiment with different steels haha.

I was so excited when I first picked up my 21L. My only mistake was that I gave it to the shop I bought t from to sharpen it because the one side of the edge was a different angle than the other. I was too impatient to send it in the CRK, but w/e, the edge the shop gave me felt like glass. I used it mainly as a box cutter which dulled it faster than my Emerson, but a quick strop on a piece of wood and I was back at it. Before the re grind, after about ten cuts, the edge would bind on the cardboard, and not even cut. The tumbstuds, I like, but the angle in which you deploy it is what is the issue, i believe. I've cut my thumb twice on this blade, so I'm always flinchy when I open it up, even though the action has smoothed out. It only hurt on the studs until my thumb got callused. If a man complains about such "pain", its more about the knife needing a new owner rather than the owner needing a new knife.

Agreed...the blade is the most impressive, functional, complex component of the knife. Good vid! Sabenza is expensive, but probably one of the best values available. It could definitely last a lifetime.

Thanks for talking about knife shelf life, and you are 100% right. A few days ago, I bought a discontinued Spyderco Police 4 model, and when I received it, it had a few manufacturing defects like severe blade play and fit/finish issues. I called Spyderco for warranty service, and I was told they may or may not be able to fix it because it was a discontinued model and recommended that I return it to the seller. I guess I will spend a few hundred dollars more on a Sebenza, knowing that it has no shelf life and can be passed on to my daughter or future grandchildren.

Ive had my Large CR Sebenza for 3 years. I went to a sharpening shop to get it sharpened and buddy took a mm off the tip which gives it a bit of a rounded tip look, pisses me off thinking about it. Still looks good but im getting another blade for it soon cause i notice the tip, bugs me. Now i use a spyderco sharpener and do it myself and it works great. 150 canadian for a new blade and you have to send your knife in cause each blade is custom fitted. I called CR n great customer service. Great vid n im getting the Spyderco Para M2 s35vn steel. I like the orange on yours.

Can't recall another youtuber discuss shelf life and spare parts yet that's the difference between a functional knife and a letter opener. I waited months for a replacement stop pin from Miguron because the original was out of spec and chewed up due to the front flipper jimping contacting the pin scoring it all around. Many emails to Sam Luo with pics, precision measurements of the pin (former machinist) for resolution. When I finally recieved a few pins from China none of them were the correct size for my Akri. Shame, because the Akri is a nice design but it is literally a paperweight on my desk now. Thanks to Sam for trying to help but no more cheap Chinese knives for me. There is nothing cheap about a tool that is not dependable or serviceable.

If you haven’t owned one, you should try the Spyderco Gayle Bradley. In hand, size, grind, lock up, washers, smoothness, build, it reminds me a lot of the Sebenza 21. Smaller washers, a little pivot lash, but other that that, very excellent. It is right up your alley

The thumb stud is definitely too pointed on the sebenza. It does hurt my hand after only a few openings. That's probably my one and only gripe about it. I definitely think the frame lock design is stronger than the liner look for reasons you just demonstrated.
@camorakidd_edc
@camorakidd_edc 5 жыл бұрын
Man I'm really tempted to get a sebenza.. there are exactly 2 things that I think should be changed. They should make the steel a little bit harder to about 61 hrc and make the lock stronger. I know it isn't 100% needed but it's just a head thing for me if a lock has give when I put pressure on the spine I'm not gonna be comfortable while using is "harder". Oh and 1 thing the PM2 can do that the Sebenza cant.. BATONING lol Where I am alot of people don't use their sebenzas but I think a big reason is the shipping it would cost to send it to CRK. Insured shipping would be around 75-85$ which is just crazy and that is also the only thing still holding me back from getting one

Camora Kidd wish they used a different steel and ran it harder used a stronger lock and stoped making the tip thicker I get it’s more durable that way but I just don’t care enough would rather have it be like 15 thou all the way to the tip

@@bp-hx9ts yup I agree. I would love to see a sebenza in a carbon steel like Cruwear or M4. With the tip I don't know man.. I'd want a sturdy tip on it but .025 tip with .018 bte would be better

Camora Kidd meh I don’t do prying with my knives so no bug deal to me yeah cruwear or 4v at high hardness would be good but I think a great thing about sebenzas is also like what nero says there working knives little maintenance and upkeep I don’t think they would go for a steel that can rust fairly easy something like lc200n or vanax superclean or something like that would be in my top 5 steels for any knife much more so a sebenza

Depends on the blade. I bel6 $150 for S35VN and $300 for Damascus. Of course the knife must be sent in to be properly fitted to the the lockbar. While it's there they can blast the titanium and make the knife look new again for no charge. I think re-doing polished slabs cost about $150.

I love my Sebenza 21 large and will get a small 31 when it hits the stores. I have had two hinderer knives and got rid of them. Over-priced. Under-perform. I will never buy another Rick Hinderer knife; lots of other mediocre knives to choose from at lower prices.

CRK will have ran out of replacement parts for discontinued models by the time you sharpen a blade away over 15 years. You can't get blades for the original or classic sebenza. No bg42 and no s30v. You can't even get 21 blades anymore, but I only asked about a replacement for my basketweave 21. The won't even etch it again incase something goes wrong. This is shitty news no doubt. But, at least they give us a blade that can last a very long time. Buy two or three and keep some hidden away for that day far in the future. You'll be set for life even if you are a young man.

DontBotherNone I don’t really see a point to it. The knife can handle any kind of realistic forces you apply, and that’s all I need. I will never, and I don’t think anyone else is going to beat the spine of a sebenza till it fails in realistic use imo of course.

bp69 for the height of the blade to amount needed to sharpen before thickening is unique. Even some of my cold steel knives thicken quicker, when they have a good half inch of extra height compared to the 21.

😂 LOL 😂 in what world does that mean a damn thing? It's a folding knife that will and should never EVER have anywhere near 40lbs of force on the spine. Your using it wrong...in my experience ZT has a pretty poor lockup, I have had a dozen different models and most had lock slip

Sorry, that first 21 has like 90% engagement vs not even the full face of the lock bar on the ZT, that's hardly a fair comparison. I'm also betting that if you squeeze the 21's lock bar, it will travel most if not all the way to the show scale. I know my 3 month old 21 does. This also doesn't prove what you are trying to say, what you are bending are the scales and it has little to nothing to do with the bearings or washers per se. You can see it watching your own video. Your clip rant is just silly. I've carried 3 or 4 different Spydercos daily for about 30 years and I have never broken or snagged a clip. Do I think they are the best? No. But if you get your micrometer back out and measure the clip rise at the mouth I think you'll find the PM2 is virtually the same as the 21's. BTW, the hardware store sells lots of washers and even if you can't find the exact size, 2 minutes at a machine shop can rectify that little problem.
