One thing to note is if you set up your private game you can up the amount of resources or look at ones you're joining. You can even go as far as starting with the highest gear so many ways to customize if you don't want to play the "normal" way.

While this does help with the tedium you will soon find that there's not much else to do if you remove or simplify the gear progression. As M said, it's mostly about pvp fights and competition or cooperation between players to keep the game fresh, without it you'll be bored long before reaching max lvl unlike sth like Valheim that has the proc gen exploration and a really immersive building system to keep it fresh.

Something to consider, a dev somewhere mentioned that the game is balanced around small groups of 3-4 people. So if you are doing a solo game, you should up all of the gathering rates and crafting speeds.

I enjoy this game so much more then Valheim. The level of polish the devs put on this title can not be understated and this is hands down the easiest and fastest inventory management in any survival game period. They allow you to store and organize 1000's of items with a single click faster then any other game in the genre and they launched with that feature and everyone else had to play catch up. The only game that might do it slightly better is pal world which allows you to craft from any storage box. V rising was quite a pallet cleanser after the boring mess that was nightingale.

As someone who has beaten the game 3 times now, the new brutal difficulty mode they added, completely makes it feel like a new game, in terms of the combat. Especially if you use a different caster focused build, as opposed to a fighter one, or whatever. It's not just stats, virtually all the bosses have new moves. And things you could just tank through before, you now have to pay vital attention to.

I have about 40 hours into the game. My biggest gripe is, unless you want to play solo, the castle decay is annoying because it forces you to treat the game like an MMO and log in daily even when you have stuff to do or want to play other games. I understand this is just for server / hosting reasons, but the constant threat of losing your stuff kills it. That being said, if you're into the game, I recommend just playing solo. Someone suggested playing solo, up the research time, etc., and the game becomes legitimately much funner than its vanilla setting.

I really enjoy this game. and play it solo. I find its living world to be incredibly immersive, and its focus on boss fight progression ala terraria to be very enjoyable even solo. recommend to everyone. 9/10. decay, and timers can all be adjusted in server settings. and honestly its default is way more forgiving then Valhiem.. about midway you can get thralls, to farm goods for you. and of course, building multiple crafting benches with for the timers speeds those up. so decent levels of automation.

I love the V rising gameplay. I have over 1200 hours in the pre release version, which I played while going to college. This time around I won't be playing it multiplayer, as I have a job and a life. These kind of base defense games require a lot of time and an open schedule. It works just fine as a singleplayer game or on a pve only server. Its a bit less fun to not encounter other players and have fights out in the open world, but the game is still good without it.

I like how this game is also a “girl friendly”. I can never get into any combat games, because they just don’t appeal to me at all. This one is an exception. It’s pretty, everything in this game looks nice, I love the style, bosses are very charismatic, players on pve seem to get along (except for the rifts), I had very nice interactions and help. I also loved organising the castle and, surprisingly, killing bosses. I played solo a year ago with gloomrot update and finished the game, and this time I played duo with my partner on brutal. As I’m not a skilled player with especially difficult bosses we developed a strategy: he’d start the boss, get him down to low hp, then I come in and finish the boss. Obviously, with some other bosses there was a different strategy, but this worked very well. So I feel like it’s a very nice game to play with your partner, even if she/he doesn’t usually like combat based games.

Unlike a lot of other reviewers and “professional” game journalists, Morti is a really skilled gamer and you can just tell that this man has a deep understanding and a great passion for games in general. His early reviews when a game launches point out things that almost nobody else is talking about. Most importantly he’s giving you the info to decide whether you would want to buy the game now, not what he thinks of buying the game for himself, he talks about that in the 100% completion reviews. Always transparent, objective and doesn’t waste your time with BS - super helpful when I’m looking to buy a new game!

Brutal is more than it states, apparently it adds new attacks many of which actually made me think about what spells I was taking to a fight. Having Double Block can come in handy when a boss decides to throw truck-stop sized AoE's at you for the next 10s. If you're comfortable with souls games, I highly recommend Brutal Difficulty, it's extremely well made.

I played this for a bit in Early Access, and even though I played solo, I still had a bit of fun with it. (I stopped playing once they announced the multi-floor patch would reset all progress.) The big approach that I took that I think helped with it is that I considered it to be more of a sandbox. I didn't worry too much about what you could argue was the linear flow. For example, if the next named entity with V Blood was over in the east but I thought the area up in the north looked niftier -- even though it had a tougher named guy -- I went up north anyway! I know I ran into that Chaos Archer at one point, and that fight took a while of dodging and attacking. I also went and killed that Bandit King and the Armorer because it sounded like fun. (I think there was a quest too?)
@Noobism
@Noobism 24 күн бұрын
Not sure if it was a bug. But I ran into when crafting say a plank, the automation would hang up on the first one and wouldn’t continue. You have to move the wood either to another slot in the sawmill or back to your inventory before it would resume. You have to do this each time, so not really automatic. Bit of an issue.

I absolutely agree that this was made primarily for PVP, so many things you make/do in the world does not have the QOL features a PVE game would have. Big + from the devs to add your own "server" and tweaking all the settings tho as that could alleviate a lot of the annoying pvp grind stuff.

Thank you so much for talking so extensively about the PvP / multiplayer aspect of this game! I've been very curious about V Rising, but haven't bought it because the info around everything multiplayer was too scarce for my liking to blindly spend 35 € on it. This video showed me that while there are strict PvE servers, these servers get a wipe every so often. And that's not what I enjoy in my games. Setting up a server for myself seems like a waste of money too, so I will sadly put this game away. It's a real shame, but oh well. Thanks again, Mortym, for your top-notch "review" :)

@ihatevnecks7015 24 күн бұрын
That's why you have the host tweak the server rules so you have stuff like increased gathering yield, increased crafting/refining speed, stuff like that. It's very customizable. I'm playing with just one friend and we don't find it to be overly grindy really.

I played it as a 2-person-co-op a few versions back and it was absolutely fine. One thing to note is that sending out minions on missions only makes sense on dedicated servers where you have offline progress, but you can definitely compensate for that through the gameplay settings.
@twigtwig3110

I've hosted a server for my friends on release and when Gloomrot came out, and we're doing it again now. About 6-8 people usually when we're playing. It works super well, especially with the new brutal mode which I *highly* recommend. The boos fights are challenging enough and scale with the number of players in them, so you're never going to feel like you just mobbed a boss to death. Progression is linear, but since you can share a castle and research it goes by a lot faster, and you can easily tweak server settings. Personally I advise making harvesting resources faster instead of turning up the amount of resources harvested, I think this is better for balance overall, but that's just me. You can do both, as well as adjusting pretty much everything about combat - player health, damage, and magic power, enemy health and damage, the amount of each stat you get from items, etc. And if you or anyone in your group likes base building, they're going to have a field day with it.

One thing that goes understated here is the huge variety of builds that open up toward the mid to late game. Ancestral weapons are infused with schools of magic, and spells can be modified significantly with jewels. Add a large amount of status effects that can interact in many ways, and you can construct very unique builds with synergies specific to your play style. It becomes very in depth. Regarding replayability, this game gets lumped in with live service slop due to its multiplayer component, when in reality it should be judged more like any other game that _ends_. Nobody cries about Elden Ring or Cuphead having finite content, and this is no different. If you're looking for a forever game, go play Minecraft. ;)

Just to add to the "review", the brutal difficulty mode is actually how the game is meant to be played in PvE. Bosses have improved AI and new mechanics kn top of better stats. That new difficulty mode came after 2 years of feedback from the veterans players, so don't miss on it.

@@MortismalGaming is it an in game option? Or down I have to use steam controller options to set it up? To my understanding last thing I heard from devs it would most likely be added when game comes to console. Ty Edit: I haven’t played since early access launch. I really enjoyed, I’m just bad at keyboard and mouse.

The Devs really wanted to make this game a Multiplayer PVP thing, but it's simply unplayable on a PVP server. PvE with friends is fun, or solo with droprates x4. Otherwise feels too grindy.

They really shot themselves in the foot with how massive they made buildings. The map feels dead with even 50 players, but at the same time, there is virtually nowhere to make home when there is more than 50 players.

I bounce off the game every time I lose track of crafting materials in storage... without the ability to craft from storage it becomes nothing more than a chore for me. If crafting gear weren't so critical to the flow of the game, I could understand it... but this sort of thing is so incredibly irritating to me, I cannot see past it.

Hope they add more updates. Story quests with voice acting Arena mode Or arena mode on map where you can stake items Rng weekly bosses Leaderboards Puzzles Parkour This game can stay alive if they have consistent updates aside from cosmetics. Adding new bosses will only bring so many people back. They need to have something for players to come in weekly. Maybe world/server raid bosses, lol pretty much make it like RuneScape.

There are community servers that meet this criteria. However with the new update broke all the mods and so every server that uses mods are waiting for them to be fixed. This game was mostly made for PvP in mind, not PvE.

I really wish these kinds of games were designed first and foremost around solo play, and THEN the devs worked on how these games work in multiplayer/co-op. It's kinda convoluted and off-putting trying to work out what settings I need just to play by myself

Honestly i didn't enjoy the game. Its not very hard, its just too crowded. I dont want to play alone. Every server i jumped in i would run around forever trying to find a spot to start building but everyone already took all the good spots. Trying to go any further just kept getting me killed, and i can't get stronger cause i need to start building to progress. So i might try playing again another time, but right now its not for me.

V Rising looks so cool, except I hate Online Service Games. I hate games designed around it, where a single player is an option and specifically games made for PVP where it doesnt make sense. I agree, I do not want to play online. This would be an instant buy if it wasnt designed around the PVP.

This game has a solid 50 hours plus of solid solo play. The options available within the settings for solo play make this game entirely playable without other people. The only thing you’re missing is pvp. Every single other element of the game is fantastic and does not need the pvp to enjoy. Personally, for the money, I think this is worth it. I’ll be playing entirely solo. I’ve done about 30 hours in early access and I’ve got at least one good solid play through of the game ahead of me and that’s honestly looking to be another 30 or so plus hours at least.
