Thank you so much Roger!! I was given a Coelogyne mooreana Brockhurst as a Christmas gift. I’ve been trying you shift outside my orchid comfort zone. When I got it, it had the leaf bubbles. I thought I was doing something wrong because they persisted. Thank you for saying about how they’re there because they’re fussy to water!!!!!

This was interesting Roger. I have a pholidota chinensis that was so healthy when I bought it and its roots were in food-wrap. I placed it in a barky mix with some moss and it's been sulking a long,long time. The new growth is coming slowly and I'm hopeful that will make new roots.

Thanks for the video, now i know that I have a smaller version of cristata with round psbs. I used to grow C. cristata in stable environment year round as KEW, but it not seems to be happy. The lack of the winter rest would be a reason of its poor growth this year. I will try change conditions this year.

Thank you Roger for sharing that link. It’s a great resource 👍. I only have one Coelogyne. It’s the species usitana. ( a warm grower). It’s still a young plant and I hope I can get it to blooming size.🤞I’d love to see the flower- pristine white with a VERY dark burgundy/black/burnt orange tongue.

I have cristata var. alba, flaccida and fimbriata and only the last is doing tolerably well. It's the East Midlands OS meeting this Sunday and I'll be taking the first two to get rid. They just aren't happy in my conditions. They aren't dying but they're not thriving, either, so I'm better off with using the space for something that will thrive.

Very nice! I have just one and not for long - since November - Coelogyne Lyme Bay = usitana x speciosa, she is still a bit of stranger to me, so I approach her with caution, but there is a new bulb growing... I will probably get more, like the look of them...

Thanks for that information Roger. My nitidia flowers like mooreana, straight through a ‘tube’ before the leaves and pseudobulb develops. The problem I sometimes have with both mooreana and nitidia is that the flower spike gets stuck in the tube and doesn’t advance. Maybe something to do with watering or temperature. Difficult to know what goes wrong sometimes. Angela

Interest video. If Coelogynes can be cool to cold growers and that means some then I would be all over them as I leave my home over the winter on the cool to cold side of things. Something I may get this spring. Just not sure yet. Lovely green leaves on them and waiting to see the blooms coming.

How do you propagate a coelogyne orchid?
@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai2 жыл бұрын
Pieces can be cut off with at least 3 bulbs and planted up separately. Coelogynes don't like root disturbance and will often 'sulk' and not grow for some time.

Hi Roger, I've been hoping for this video. I have four Coelogynes,( cristata, speciosa*usitana "Lime bay", flaccida and fimbriata). Fimbriata was flowering in September and it is easy to care. Lime bay is growing like crazy and hope for the flowers this year. Cristata is pushing two new growths but flaccida is giving me headache. Sitting there, doing nothing just as you said they can do.

Hi, I have Lyme Bay too. How is yours potted and how do you fertilize it, if you don't mind sharing of course. Thank you!

My flaccida did nothing for ages until I gave it a bit more light. Then the flower spike went off like a shot, but Roger says here that the spikes will do nothing for ages, then take off. So maybe that’s all that happened with mine 😆

@@Orchideya It's potted in fine bark and sphagnum moss mix in a basket. I keep it moist, not let it dry completely between watering. When I had flaccida, it took a very long time to start growing - well over a year. It did eventually bloom and I didn't like the fragrance so I got rid of it.

@@leafrigula8412 Thank you for the info! I got mine just recently, in November, my first coelogyne too... Potted it into clay pot with sphagnum, so far it seems ok, growing new bulb.
