What I would add, (it's just a personal preference) is when mining and digging for the lights go back to a specific spot and dig from there. When all spots are gone dig in one direction and search for new spots there. I always dug uncoordinated and now I created an enormous labyrinth down there and can't remember where I had to stop last time so I have to find new spots, which takes an eternity. Also the ores in the mines are color coded. If you need a specific ore just try different stone colors and if you find it dig up all the right colored stone. The stones outside are also color coded. Some things can only be found in specific stones.
