The spider you encountered are large and love undisturbed dark holes to live. So basically you gave it the perfect home. 😁♥️

Yes, definitely blossom end rot. My larger tomatoes that are in pots have had it because of the heat and watering fluctuations. But it doesn't always affect every fruit on the plant if you can get the soil condition right again. It's a more common issue with large varieties, cherry tomatoes are less prone to it. Just take the ones that have the rot off the plant and either compost or just only use the top part. I find adding a bit of blood fish and bone can sometimes help.

I garden lots in containers and they really need weekly feedings, at least, for the plants to thrive. Love your videos!

Blossom end rot is caused by a deficiency in calcium which hasn't been helped with the heatwave and a lack of rain. Don't give up trying to grow tomatoes and other crops that fail Emma. Another excellent episode of Emma's allotment diary in your home garden. Keep safe & well and happy gardening.

Try adding some garden lime to increase the calcium levels in your tomato plants this will hopefully stop your blossom end rot and remove the affected tomato as it won't get better sorry😞. Happy gardening 😉🍅

Morning Emma, just subscribed ,I have to admit your a battler not only with your allotment but trying to get a Good harvest as well ,I have failures and could cry , I live in south Australia and our summers get as high as 45c to 48c so all my veggies are under shade cloth which comes off in winter, I love your attitude with failures and you kèep trying ,I try to keep the cost down with fertiliser food , so got a big bin and put in a small bag of chook poo and filled it with water kept stirring it for a few days smells abit so a lid is needed and have to admit when I feed my plants and veg they can handle the heat abit better and I can get a harvest, but with me it's all hit and miss ,I can see you love gardening and your allotment so keep going I also think a wine helps as well LOL, happy gardening Emma x

You are a total joy to watch Emma. I'm desperate to have a garden tidy but I have broken my shoulder and garden on a slope so virtually impossible I'm so frustrated I can tell you. I'm gardening with one hand which takes bloody ages and there's only so much you can do plus it's dangerous. I have just seen you in a gardening magazine I felt like you were my friend appearing in there then I remembered you don't even know me? hee hee. What a star, have they given you those free seeds that come with it, if so can we see you sowing them please. xxx

Regarding your tomatoes: It's definitely blossom end rot. Blossom end rot can happen to most tomato varieties. It's just that certain varieties like certain beefsteaks and the elongated varieties seem to be particularly sensitive to it. Extreme moisture fluctuations due to uneven watering in the root zone is often determined to be one of the major cause which will trigger acute calcium transport issues. You need to keep the moisture more even throughout the day and week. The exact scientific reasining is still an open question as the mechanism isn't completely understood yet. Good thing: Just genorously cut off all the rotten parts, the rest of the tomato is perfectly edible. The bad thing: The yield is abysmally low. If you see large sunken in spots of BER, just take off the fruit and book that as a loss. Give the plant more time to establish a new fruit, the earlier the better. The wasted yield and time is just not worth keeping big BER spotted tomatoes on the plant if the rot spot is already larger than 1/3 of the tomato or approaching it.

My understanding is that curry the plant and curry the spice is two totally different things. Curry the spice is actually a mixture of the most common spices used in Indian cuisine.

Me too. They are on a slant, so the water, and soil, just pour out of them. Taking them off the hooks and sitting them on the ground to water them will be much better.

Just be aware that your curry plant isn't edible as such. It's purely ornamental.

As per my knowledge, it is used in a similar way as bayleaf; cook in stews for example and removed before eating. It is used in Mediterranean cuisine, not in Indian or Asian dishes.
