My favourite would have to be THE SUBSTANCE. Such an fantastic film about aging, misogyny, and acceptance. Demi Moore gives all of herself to this movie and it pays off. I'm so glad to see that it is getting award season love, including award recognition for Margaret Qualley and director Coralie Fargeat. David Cronenberg is smiling from heaven (that heaven being Canada).

I did not have any expectations about Conclave apart from Ralph Fiennes, and not only did he deliver, but the whole movie, too. It stayed with me for a good few days, and that's not something typical. Def will check out the Wild Robot and The Apprentice from your list. I did watch the Civil War and I can see why some people did not like it - because it shows any war ain't a nice thing, and some people don't want to hear this. Nice to hear from you again, and Merry Christmas, Debbie!

For me what made Longlegs a good movie was the performance by Maika Monroe. I was blown away by how good she was in it. True talent. This year unfortunately I watched more boring movies than good ones but the one that stood out the most to me this year is Horizon chapter one. It’s 3 hours long but they go by so fast because it’s so good. Dune 2 was really good too, and Furiosa. Some others I enjoyed, Abigail was ok, Fall Guy, Freedom (French movie), The Lord of the Rings, Bonhoeffer, Smile 2, in the land of saint’s and sinners, Beetlejuice, Cabrini and Possum Trot were very enjoyable and entertaining. Everyone! Have a blessed new year!

I totally agree that Longlegs should be on this list. The more I research what went into creating this script and film, the more I love it. The same with Dune, which I feel redefined science fiction films much like Star Wars and Bladerunner did. And Anora. Don't even get me started. This film, like the director's previous works, is riveting from the get go with so much power, suspense, and energy without the typical obvious screenwriting we'd expect with this kind of film. And the ending. Spot on perfect. Oh, and I subscribed. You have carefully informed and considered opinions. That's all I look for in reviews.

I dont get the love for Dune 2. The directors cut from David Lynch was so much better imo. As someone who has read the books over and over in their youth maybe I need to read Dune again for a refresher. I did not like the timing of the movie as it seemed really off at many times for me. Like Paul having to run and camp for a night than moving ahead years all at once. Also where is his sister who was a central character of the books in many ways. My friends loved it but I am still loyal to the books and Lynch's director cut.
@slimrockАй бұрын
I just realized that a lot of time has passed since Lynch did it so maybe most have never seen it. It was a lot more dynamic and the big moments meant more imo.

Two movies I guess you have to be a raging Gen Z feminist to actually find appealing are The Substance and Anora. While I do think The Substance was interesting and the FX were crazy, I just don't get why so many are so enthralled with Anora. To me, it was just a silly cross between Jersey Shore, Hustlers, and Pretty Woman with a large dose of nudity and drug abuse tossed in. Harkens back to when everyone was raving about Get Out and I finally saw it and was like, "What the hell is everyone talking about?" 🤷♂
