My top 10 Favorite Number 8's in Rugby

These are my favorite Number 8's (8 man) in rugby. Please watch in HD, and sorry for not including Sergio Parisse, he is a great Italian number 8 but not really one of my favorites. Enjoy! and please tell me what you think in the comments whether you like it or not.

As a South African I am SHOCKED to see Kieran Read not top that list... That guy is in a class of his own. Putting Pierre Spies ahead of Kieran Read is a sin, Having Spies on this list even is dubious...

For me it's a toss-up between Kieran Read and Duane Vermeulen for the number 1 spot. Based on 2014 performances. Wow Pierre Spies had some pace back when he was at his best!!

u should also look at it from the quality of the opposition! Spies for example only excelled in super rugby and against lesser oposition. looks good on a highlight reel but doesnt reflect the players conistency. Vermeulen on the other hand had a man of the match performance against the All blacks with rib cartilage damage! i appreciate this is your opinion but that cant be ignored IRB player of the year nominee 2014 booya!

Enzo Caballero there is only 12 mins of American football playtime. However, there is 80 minuets of rugby play time. personally, I think that American football players wouldn't be able to play rugby because they arnt fit enough.

Anyone who doesn't have Sergio Parisse on a list of the best 8s is either narrow minded, or doesn't understand rugby.. The guy has been unbelievable for years in an at best average Italian team.. He would be 1st choice 8 in any international side apart from the ABs because of Read.. I'm English and we have Billy Vunipola, who I love, but I'd select Parisse over Billy in a heartbeat..

Since professional era for me: Zinzan undoubtedly the best. Nothing to separate Vermeulen and Reid at No.2 . (Reid may be the all round more skillful player and Duane definitely the more intimidating physical specimen.) Harinordoquy at 4 and Rocky Elsom at 5, Parisse at 6 and Heaslip at 7. I would maybe put Dallaglio in there at 8, purely because he was such a hard man, but none of the others are close, certainly not Chabal and Spies.

Forget about Duane. I think Spies was a much better no 8. But no Bobby Skinstad. The list is more robust type of players. Bobby was a class act. In the apartheid era non racial rugby had a few great no 8s like Yaghya Sakier. Grantham Jansen. Clive Thomas. Saait Magiet. It's a pity the world didn't see them

Your fav is a great player. However, there's a big difference between your favourite, and who is actually the best. What you have to ask yourself is this: would he be picked ahead of Reid for the all blacks? Of course not. Would he be picked ahead of vermuelen or spies for the springboks? Of course not. They are better than him.

I think this top 10 was chosen from guys still playing the game, but I know for sure that Zinzan was one of the best..if not the best. Can remember him from watching rugby as a youngster. My dad was/is a big Buck Shelford fan as well!

The Caveman had an awesone presence - no doubt because of his looks. Technically he could never be the complete 8th man. That title in my humble opinion goes to Kieran Read. (And in saying this I adore Marmuke). Read is simply the complete player (and as a Saffa I am somewhat loathe to say it)
