I’ve watched a few different machining channels where people mentioned the type of insert (CNMG, I think, and others) and I always thought it was a certain brand of insert. I recently found your channel, and one of the first videos I watched you showed a sheet that has what all those letters mean. It seems small, but you have no idea how excited I was to see that. Yes, there’s tons of machining content on here, but you do have something different to offer that’s incredibly valuable. Thanks for everything you’re doing, and keep up the great work!

One thing I really appreciate with inheritance machining and cutting edge engineering is that they subtitle their videos. I know its some extra work but the automated captions can be quite bad sometimes, esp when there's a lot of background noise. Would you consider editing and proofing the automated subtitles for your videos in the future? As a deaf person it makes a huge difference.

Matt, thanks for giving up your time to do this video in your down time, I am really excited about seeing the rigs work, I am not a metal machinist, but it has always fascinated me since tech school. I still want to know how you deal with all of the swarf and how much cleanup time there is in your workshop. Coming from a cabinet making background, workshop and machine cleaning always takes time and effort, and it is a tedious part of running any sort of manufacturing workshop. I would also love to see you and Curtis doing something together CEE is a jobbing workshop, and it would be interesting for everybody. Thanks again

Cheers mate! Yeah the swarf cleanup takes a bit of work, but I’ll add a “how we do it” in one of the next videos.

Your dad sounds like my dad, a British WWII veteran, so laid back he was damn near horizontal! His favourite saying was “if a problem has a solution it’s not worth worrying about and if it doesn’t have a solution it’s not worth worrying about!” Is the drilling side of the company also part of the family, if you covered that I must have missed it. Can’t wait to see the drilling rigs in action! Keep up the great work!

Yep. The machine shop was born out of the need to keep rigs running… and just grew from there!

Loved this episode thank you, Probably my favorite so far as its so close to home for me.. I was a oil well driller for 7 years, Got promoted to Relief Drill in 1980 in Montana's Williston Basin after only 3 months in the patch.. Real battle field promotions back in the day...I then transferred to Oklahoma's Anadarko Basin for a couple years finding myself on a couple different company's rigs, one of which was shooting for worlds deepest hole at the time,, We were over 21000 feet when I left. Eventually I landing on a newly built rig destined to Alaska's Prudhoe Bay Kuparuk field. Once there I was tagged to be one of 4 of the company's work over rig operators and working on Top Drive Drill rigs as well.. All these rigs in my career were missive triples, even the work over rig, meaning 3 drill stems or 90 feet to the Derrick stands diving board. Huge torques involved in either the turn tables or top drives and huge string weights as well. I have been wondering how on earth a truck or trailer mounted rig is planning on handlining this Mega Drills torque requirements your building, or the weight of of a stuck drill. Following along with great anticipation toward watching all of this in action. Thanks so much for sharing. Now as a semi retired excavation Contractor I just bought my first lathe and Mill a couple months ago and eagerly eating up all things making chips and sparks from seasoned pros such as yourself. Carry on.
@halheavydutyКүн бұрын

Love your channel! A thought for a potential video would be a general overview of trepanning. I don't know very much about it and would be interested in knowing more. Like, you could start with the better known ways of making a hole in a part (drill, boring, etc.) then talking about trepanning and when it would be used, advantages/disadvantages, etc. I would also like to know more about the tool geometry and the function of the different parts of the tool, and then things to be aware of when using the tool to make sure the job is successful. I would also be interested in knowing what might go wrong, what that means for the part and the tool, and what needs to be done to fix things when they go wrong (if possible).

Hanging to see the big rig running. Things a monster. All the drilling rigs I've worked around are dual continuous tracks used for drilling explosive holes in open cut mines. Never been around mobile units. The motors that run the mine drill rigs are usually around the 1000hp mark. These units run near 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at near full load ie. they get flogged.

Really enjoyed hearing the history of the company. Your panther reference to your Hole Maker fluid, reminds me of a home brewed gun cleaner that some of my fellow competitive shooters used to mix up back in the day. It was a combo of ATF( automatic transmission fluid ), acetone, and who knows what else. Anyway, it was about the color of your Hole Maker( due to the red ATF ), and it was known as "Panther Piss".Good memories! Hope you folks have an awesome 2025!

There's not much better than witnessing the continuance and growth of a legacy started years ago by one bloke and his hands & head, the world could do with more of it because we're in danger of losing too many skills. I know you have heard this hundreds of times but I think the algorithm put you in my feed because I subscribe to CEE and the mad genius Kurtis. I subscribed right away to your channel and think you are doing a great job with your videos. Watching from Texas.

Love it! Texas for the win.

I grew up in my Dads machine shop. Taught others how to use manual lathes and simple CNC programming in high school. Decided to do aviation maintenance in college and now 20 years later I'm doing machining in my spare time, slowly getting a small job shop setup and making hard to source airplane parts to quench the thirst. Your shop is the kind of work my Dad and I enjoyed. I would be happier than a pig in shit working for/with you.

I think it would be fantastic for you and Curtis and families get together. Just have a good time and maybe collaborate on some project. Either at your shop or his shop. I would really look forward to that. Thanks for another great and informative video. Keep us informed Matt!

Happy New Year! I also enjoy watching your videos along with videos from Kurtis and Karen. Any idea of the cost of going to mega bore lathe/CNC would be?
@halheavyduty2 күн бұрын
I reckon it’ll be upwards of 300k USD. Depending on the brand / options.

Was that Kurtis’s drift car you pulled up in to start the video? 😊. Thanks for all of the great videos. I think our tastes in machining must run similar but thanks for the tips on a couple I didn’t know about.
