What!!!!! #1 lives on my camera! I bought it primarily for wildlife but use it just as much for landscape. I only have one kidney now, but it was well worth it! New subscriber. Thanks for the video!

I have done Landscape Photography since 1979 with all kind of Camera types and format in both analog and digital, I never use zoom lenses ! You can use any kind of focal length for Landscape Photography, it depends on the Landscape and how you want the final result.

Wanted to ask a follow up question. For each manufacturer like Sony, Canon, and Nikon could you possible pick the lenses for a good landscape kit? For instance do you favor mostly zooms for flexibility, f/4 for smaller lighter? I.e For Sony would it be the f/4 or f/2.8 holy trinity like the 16-35/2.8 GM II, 24-70/2.8 GM II, 70-200/2.8 GM II, and 100-400 GM or the f/4 equivalents for example? I have lots of primes but see very few landscape photographers using them on a regular basis, you only had two (that I do own) on your list. I have typically built my kits for events and portraits but I want to focus on landscapes. Take care.

Fun exercise and got me thinking about what my own personal list would be. Like you the rational is mix of emotional connection, performance and significance within my photographic journey over the last several years. It would probably change a lot depending on when it was written too. 1. Fuji 16-55 f2.8 2. Nikon Z 70-200 f2.8 3. Tokina 11-16 f2.8 4. Fuji 100-400 f4.5-5.6 5. Fuji 23 f1.4 6. Fuji 56 f1.2 5. Nikon Z 400 f4.5 6. Nikon Z 24-70 f2.8 7. Fuji 55-200 f3.5-4.8 8. Nikon 18-55 f3.5-5.6 9. Fuji 50-140 f2.8 10. Fuji 10-24 f4

A lot of great Fuji stuff on this list. I’m going to be working with an xT5 for the next few months (for a guide and review). I’m excited to add Fuji to some future lists. Also the Nikon 400 4.5 and 70-200 are so stellar. I came really close to having the Nikon 70-200 on the list but ultimately decided I should only have one 70-200.

@summitbid Short lived experience with the 400 but it was memorable. Took it on a recent mountain trip. First lens in a long time that changed the way I saw the world. A beauty in execution and engineering. Nikon is making some killer telephoto options lately.

Thank you fore sharing this. As a Canon, Sony, brief Nikon Z owner/user I have used all of these with the exception of the long Nikkor 80-400. So a follow up question. Your clear that the Sony A7RV is your current landscape camera for Sony, which I also own. What bodies would you recommend for Nikon and Canon? I also own a EOS R5 and use my current RF L mount lenses there. For Nikon, if I bought a body , I would start by adapting GM/GMII lenses but would consider rebuying the Z 14-24/2.8 and the Z 24-70/2.8. So help by providing your answers. Take care.

For Nikon, either the z8 or z7ii are great landscape cameras. The z8 has more features but the z7ii easily gets you 80-90% there. For canon it’s pretty much the r5 that you already have. The r5ii is coming soon but I doubt it really adds much for landscape shooting. That all being said I have stuck with the a7rV for now. It really balances all the features I need with a relatively small body. I also feel like the sensor is superior to canon and Nikon. Not just the mega pixels but the dynamic range as well. The more I have used it, the better I like it. I wish the Sony 100-400 better but the 70-200 GM II is SO good I’m not really complaining.

@@summitbidSo for Sony, Canon, and Nikon, are you able choose a two or three lens kit for each brand that you might suggest to get. I.e. for Sony: the 16-35/2.8 GM, 70-200/4 G II, and 24/1.4 GM and for Canon two lenses beside the RF 100-500mm? Really interested in what you actually go out into the field with. Thank for time.

I can’t seem to find this lens. I just purchased a R6 Mark II and looking for a lens for it. The only one I can find is the RF 100-500 f/ 4.5-7.1 L and the other one is EF 100-400mm f/ 4.5-5.6 L. Which one were you referring to in this video. Thank you as I am just getting into photography and landscape and occasional wildlife are my interests.

The 100-500 f/ 4.5-7.1 is the lens I was referring to.

Just making the move from canon to Sony. I love the 100-500 from canon. Been hoping for a sony 100-400 mkt release - maybe they would go 100-500 as well. Also have the rf 70-200 2.8, love the compact nature for travel. Hence having a dilemma over the Sony 70-200 2.8 and f4, just wish they had a compact 2.8 option. Maybe keep the canon and stick with a 135mm prime for Sony. So many decisions 🙂. Great review, all these videos help make an informed decision in the end. 👍

So the Sony 2.8 GM ii is an absolutely fantastic lens. The canon is more compact but the Sony is actually lighter and feels great in the hand. Optically it is the best 70-200 of the bunch. The only reason it wasn’t on this list was because i haven’t used it very much for landscape (yet). The new f4 is great, but the 2.8 is so good it’s worth the larger overall size and cost.

@@summitbid thanks for the feedback. My gut is telling me to get the gmii. I don’t suppose you have ever used with either the 1.4 or 2 x teleconverters. Heard mixed reviews, and always going to get some degradation. But results still look good and could fill a gap untill the 100-400 mk 2 released- if they ever do that is 🙂🙂

"One is more of an emotional choice..." Most of them seem to fall into that category.

For sure. Favorites are a subjective thing. I want to have an emotional connection with my work and, to some degree, with the tools I use.
