That NYC pair at the number 11 spot isn’t based on the Statue of Liberty. It’s based on Tiffany and Co box and a medal that they made for the city of NYC. Deon Point talked about the inspiration on an episode of The Sneak Diss Podcast.

A lot of the shoes came before I could afford them but some of my favorites grail collabs are the Invincible 1400 "brogues", Kawasaki 993 "Ninja", Concepts 999 "Kennedy/Hyannis", Concepts 998 "Grand Tourer", Bodega 577 "HYPRCAT", and the Sneaker Freaker 997.5 "Tassie Tiger". Provider 1500s gets special mentions for being the grail of grails.

I remember hearing about the re-release of the Kennedys, Kith and even Staple's Pigeon collabs, but never really paid much attention to them. For me, it was the Bodega No Days Off where I started to really notice NB. That's probably far too "new school" though.

My grail is the NB 999 x Mita Sneakers “Mouse”. Part of the Feral Creation Collection from back in 2009. I doubt they would retro it but it would be awesome!

The Kennedys aka Hyannis are my GOAT NB pair. Frank the Butcher killed that. My first NB “love” was the Nice Kicks 1500. The rest is history lol. I’ve been a runner head since. I’m still on the hunt for the c-notes. Love the love shown towards NB lately. It might be recent “hype” but NB has been a staple in streetwear culture and I’m just glad people are starting to give props where props is due.

The "NYC" pair isn't inspired by the Statue of Liberty - it's inspired by Tiffany and Co. because Tiffany in the early 1900s used to make special medals given to NY police officers (Medal of Valour I believe). On those medals were the letters 'NY" in the style we now know as the Yankees Logo, which is where the Yankees got it from. So the NYC 997s are Tiffany Blue to pay homage to the fact that it was Tiffany's police medals that first created the "NY" Yankee logo by proxy. Old school NB head fact of the day!
