Easy pal. Keep speeding your knowledge mate. Painters aren’t respected like they should be because there’s not enough people like you in this trade. I had a read through on your website… What an inspiration!!

I have been painting for over 30 years and I could not agree with you more; I still learn things, tips, and tricks from other painters that really help me become a better painter, finish quicker, or make more money. I learned a few things from this video. Thank you! When people tease me for still using tape I simply say; "People use to say the same thing when the wheel was invented. Why wouldn't I use something that makes my life easier?"

Hi Josh. Always enjoy your videos. You know our game inside out. I am in Scotland. Started my 4 year ( in Scotland we do four years ) apprenticeship. Back then the tape we had available was crap. Too much glue in it. It was fit for nothing. We never taped much as far as I remember. Partly because the tape was shit. However more to do with what you were saying. We used to slag guys off for not being able to cut in like a pro if they used tape. I was in a big company. Nowadays I tape on every job. Protecting floors, door furniture etc etc. The tapes we have now actually perform well. My fav is yellow Tesa tape. Best wishes from Scotland mate

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Josh. I'm just getting back into painting after a few years away. As you said a lot changes over the years and you need to keep up with new technologies and techniques. I've watched many of your videos and with each one I have gained something. Sending those positive vibes to you. :)

110% Agree! You've gotta do the prep work!! If you're not willing to do the preparations,,, Don't bother opening the paint can! My grand daughter's bedroom,, I used 9 different colors all leading up to a 24inch white circle around the light fixture at the ceiling.. Took a week!!

Hey mate. Awesome channel heaps of good tips that have helped me out on job I’m doing. I’ve bought some enviro tape and it’s the ducks!! I also just bought sprayer and wanted to know what order you generally do the spraying ie trim, ceilings then walls? Also do you back roll? Cheers

This was really helpful. I learned to paint without tape and I’m very good at it, but not very fast. I haven’t used tape too much, only because I am HORRIBLE with tape.. or anything sticky really. It’s actually comical, how ridiculously incompetent I am with anything sticky. 😅 My husband is really good at taping, but is a horrible and god awful painter. So he helps me out with tape. I have gotten better with practice. Not quite fast enough to make it worth it in most cases… but if I have highly contrasting colors, it’s a lifesaver and definitely worth the extra time.

Life long New England painter 40 yrs - completely correct - Nobody and I mean nobody can freehand cut a line as sharp as a properly taped line !! I can cut freehand fast and straight but never could I recreate a laser cut tape line - end this dumb controversy this guys 100% right

Love the clean hands. Sign of a painter thats actually good. I use frog tape and it lets me do things you cant do without it. Example a window set into stucco with a dash finish. I use brush and roller so in order to get the outer edges of the window trim and get clean lines i run frog tape and paint the tape with the wall color let that dry and then paint the trim and edges pull my tape and get a clean line. Impossible otherwise and painters typically just paint the edges of window trim the wall color because its easy but the result looks amateurish to me.

Use tape, use good tape, tape switches and receptacles, put tape on your pants, use a putty knife to make clean cuts, improvise (?), tear with a pinch, be patient, and tape the curtains. How are you going to paint behind the curtains now? When does the tape come off, wet or dry? How to get clean lines where 2 colors meet? Why is Frog tape better?
@mikethepainter Жыл бұрын
as a painter you should use all your tools. Not everybody that brushes around a door knob wipes it out like that. You should be able to cut in perfectly without hitting anything or tape and spray and do it quickly. You do whatever the job needs. not just using one system of tape and spray. If you cant brush and roll your not a painter. If you cant cut a straight line your not a painter. I use both tape and spray and brush and roll. just depends on how many coats, coverage. Whatever it takes to do a perfect looking job the quickest way.
@paintingbyjosh Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree this wasn't a video about all systems of paint this was my top ten tape tips I can guarantee I can cut and roll faster, straighter than most nearly thirty years in the game I spray because the finish cut and roll just don't cut it any more I get my woodwork looking like a lambo you can get that from a brush and roller.
@lancetamiano-wj4on7 ай бұрын
Agree nothing beats a spray finish, quicker and gives a much better smoother and cleaner finish, eliminates brush marks. People don't understand this is the new school era of painting. Gotta work smart nowadays. Love your work bro👌
