Excellent video sir. Have viewed all of your previous videos on this specific topic. Not a pro painter, but I find myself going back and binge watching them when “wifey” has a project for me. Thank you sir.

You really helped me save time and got better quality by going over my brush strokes with the whizz and I only have to cut once. I lightly sand before and in between coats. The one cut and a loaded whizz really does work, but it looks great as well! Thanks, from Cincinnati Ohio!!

Good points here Chris. I like to kind of mash my straight edge close to the cut line-it forces those filaments into the line. Thank you!

20 year pro here, a good tip: learn cut in with both hands you will slowly get better with left and right hands/arms. It will be much safer on ladders
@justindearmond1

Im sure you know this but when i roll corners with the weenie i always roll both sides. Reason being is your first pass you jam it in there and fill in, second pass on opposite wall gets rid of roller pattern. Just roll close ss you can but not in the corner .Will look terrible otherwise. 25 year painter. Was a teacher too, love to show people the pro tips.

I do that same. You can see the swirl on the opposite wall otherwise. I call it tipping off. I've taught all my guys the same thing

I just discovered your channel! I think this is the only painting site I'm gonna need. Here's a question for you. Are you using the LITTLE GIANT, THREE STEP LADDER? It looks like one of the ladders you use. If so, I would like to buy one of these. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm painting just the inside of my house. My living room has high ceilings, but I'm sure this short ladder will be great for the all of the other rooms. Thanks!

At 14:00 where you're discussing letting the cut in dry before rolling the second coat or not. You said you were comfortable letting it dry because it's a high end paint and white. I'm painting my garage as a 1 person job, and I'm using a high end grey paint. I'm a beginner and I don't think I could be fast enough to go back and roll over the cut in before it dries. Would it be okay to let the cut in dry before rolling over it during the second coat? Or with a darker color is it absolutely necessary to roll over it while it's still wet?
@Aaron-nj4ou
@Aaron-nj4ou Ай бұрын
I know that with the fast drying paint like BM Aura they actually recommend letting it dry first. So cut and edge the entire room and then roll it. Aura dries so fast it would be almost impossible to keep a wet edge anyway unless you had at lest two people painting at the same time.

Use a high-end paint. I know a lot of people make fun of Berh paints, but I use them for the walls and they are excellent either Marquee or Dynasty like Chris mentioned in the video. I can cut in and go back when it's dry and no problem, mid colours. It also helps if the wall is primed beforehand as well, so the paint settles correctly and doesn't get pulled into the wall on first coat.

Chalk the joint where the wall meets the ceiling, give yourself a surface to cut into and you will have a straighter cut; this trick works well. Give it a shot and you'll be glad you did.

Good vid . Do you thin paint ? And with what ?
@branthonkanen8681
@branthonkanen8681 Ай бұрын
Some do some dont, try both see what you like. Tip, thin a little not alot. Use water for water base cleanup, use thinner for oils. I like my paint a little thinner for cutting heavy textured walls, and brushing trim, much better layoff. Play with it ,good painting to ya.

I’m in the middle of the toughest job I’ve had. The woman I’m painting for wants near perfection. She has a little powerful flashlight she carries and shines up and down into every corner, crack and crevice for shadows caused imperfections in the drywall. She gets down and feels the baseboards. She looks from far and then close to see if the line is truly straight. The issue is that the ceiling is textured and the guy didn’t do a good job so I have drywall spots that weren’t filled all the way to the wall that I don’t want to get into because I don’t want to bother the texture on the ceiling I’ve already had to put 15 coats on while having the ceiling refinished twice. Iv had the issue you have with cheating the paint onto the ceiling and she wasn’t happy with it so I had to recut the ceiling onto the wall so I could recut the wall to the ceiling. I’m sure you would have thought of that but it might be a good tip to share for new painters who think they need to try to cover the old cut line with a new one.

I've had one or two of the "Monk" inspectors in my career, and the first thing you need to know is he/she is mentally ill with excessive compulsive disorder. The second thing you need to know is you cannot make them satisfied with the work. Even the law, as screwed up as it is, does not require a craftsman to perform to impossible standards. Sounds like your in to deep to quit; let this be a lesson. I learned years ago whole in the auto body and paint biz that once a customer is unhappy even when you make it right they are still not happy.

If you have crown molding, paint the molding first. It’s okay if you get the ceiling dirty with molding paint. Just don’t make it thick. Then, cut in the ceiling, and the wall.

Look to be fair this is probably the worst example of cut in , firstly should be doing the ceiling with the room and bring it down to eliminate the old paint that’s gone up , all this is , is when the line is not straight it’s an excuse that you had your cover up old line , this is just basic Redec , not decorating, this type of cutting in anybody with little experience could do , ,

It's a lot harder to create your own line than following the ceiling in my opinion
@tertiaryrain

Not every customer wants a full repaint. When they just want the walls painted you give them what they are asking/paying for. Even if you did paint the ceiling, you are still going to cut your line up onto the ceiling a hair so it looks as straight as possible.
@hkin8
@hkin8 4 ай бұрын
Have some white wit you feather around that old paint edges on the ceiling, ( tint it a little if you have to that old paint has to be gone , I’m not hating on the guy I watch his content , some useful spray information, but his definitely not a decorator, the brush his using is a safe brush to get you a roughly straight line up on the ceiling, not good enough for decorating , all I’m saying he hasn’t the training or the skill to warrant making this video
