Gday Elyce, you offer some great tips there that could be applied to not only teachers but to others wanting to work abroad. It’s not something one should be half hearted about when taking such a big step or commitment. It’s obvious that you are passionate about teaching and are immersing yourself into the German culture to be successful. Well done and good on you for sharing the lessons that have worked for you. 😘

Is there plenty of international teaching jobs available or is it very competitive?

My fiance and I are looking at moving to Germany from Australia. He was a high school teacher and now teaches English as a 2nd language. He is hoping to teach at international schools in Germany . What is the salary like for those teachers and how is the behavior of the students?

So glad I came upon this video! I’m currently a junior in university majoring in elementary education but hearing so many negative teaching experiences in the U.S. makes me nervous about working here. I really want to teach abroad but I don’t want to teach English as I’m going to be a certified teacher. Watching your video, I want to teach at an international school now. How was your experience teaching at an international school and how did that differ from teaching in your home country?

Thanks for the comment Thalia. My experience teaching at an international school is different in the way that we have to really focus on the skills of teaching English as a second language. A lot of students have English as a second language and attend an international school for the integration into learning the English language (That is just the case in my experience though).

Thanks so much for your video! Would love to hear about learning how to teach the international curriculum. I trained in Aus but have been teaching most of my career in the UK system. Is it extremely different? Is there anywhere you could recommend to read up on their techniques? Thank you!

Hi Nicola, thanks for the comment. Some international schools will teach to the uk curriculum or an American curriculum. That’s just from my experience but there might be other international schools. If you have experience in the uk I think that would make you an ideal candidate. Most international schools have a website so I would read up on what curriculum they teach to and go from there. I don’t have any experience with the American curriculum.

Great video Elyce! I am American and in my second year of grad school (out of three) for School Counseling,MSEd. I have always said to myself I wanted to study or teach abroad, since COVID happened I was not able to study abroad. Then right after undergrad (university) I went straight to graduate school so right now is finally my moment to begin this process. I am super exited but also super overwhelmed with the amount of information ahhh. Ideally, I am looking into positions in Europe ----------but have found out that Singapore, other countries in Southeast Asia and the Middle East are the best paying. I also don't want to me super broke you know. What are your thoughts on Europe paying low? Is this true? A second question is whether I need have the TEFL certification? If so, which website can I use to obtain it? I have no teaching experience so I cannot use that as the replacement for the TEFL cert. Besides this, any advice related to teaching abroad is welcomed --- I hope to leave anytime after May 2025. So I've got a little over a year to do research and finally get placed at a school. ◡̈ thanks again!

Hi Elyce as you were teacher in Uk so could you please tell me how you got teachers job there in Uk and is it possible to get visa jobs there in Uk in field of teaching

Hi Anjali, I went through an agency to get my job. There are many agencies that support you in the process of working in the uk. They are very helpful in providing the steps required to be able to work in the UK. I didn’t need a visa because i had the British passport so i am not sure all the details of applying. I went through the agency Tradewind Recruitment www.twrecruitment.com I took a contract rather than supply but a lot of people prefer supply so they can find a school that they like or an area they might want to live in.

Do you have any advice on what to write to secure an interview for a computer science teacher role ideally in Thailand or surrounding countries. Is Thailand a popular destination and therefore very competitive. I am an experienced computer science teacher but have no experience in the international school system. If you could point to any advice for this particular subject I would be grateful.

Hi there, thanks for watching. You could do so research on CLIL (Content and Language Integration). Content and language integrated learning is an approach for learning content through an additional language, thus teaching both the subject and the language. I have recently been watching some youtube videos about this. You could also familiarise yourself with the Bell Foundation which have youtube videos and a resourceful website on teaching english as a second language. www.bell-foundation.org.uk/eal-programme/guidance/classroom-guidance/great-ideas/
