I have been an international school teacher for the past 20 years, lived on 6 continents in 9 countries and speak 7 languages - because of my travelling. My children are global citizens and have the ‘international school accent’, have the confidence to occupy any space and can speak 8 languages. I am currently documenting my experience on my channel with the hopes that it would inspire someone out there to join me.

how often are ib teachers able to move?

@@wills5945 it all depends on you. Most contracts are 2 year long, some just one. You can either renew at the end of your two year contract or move to other IB schools. You could even move to a different school on a different curriculum. The main thing is to have a Bachelor degree and a teaching license, and you are golden.

Make sure you are registered as a teacher in your country and then start looking for positions through agencies, groups and word of mouth.

Your videos are so cool. I was wondering if I could ask a question seeing as you are in the know. So I have a master's degree in International Relations, an honours in history and a bachelors in political science and history as majors, as well as a minor in English Literature. Next year I hope to enroll for a PGCE. I wanted to ask, so in my undergrad, especially in my first year, I failed a few courses, is this regarded as a red flag for recruiters or those who hire? Would really appreciate your insights! Thanks!

It may be for some of the more competitive countries, but as long as you have the degrees you should be ok.

Does it matter what kind of bachelor's degree you have if you have a teaching credential and/or masters in education? This is in regards to international schools not ESL teachers.

Typically you will want your bachelor's degree in the subject that you want to teach. I have a degree in Spanish and got my US teaching license for K-12 Spanish. If you have a master's in education, that is usually enough to qualify you to teach in international schools - however, some schools will require your degree to be in the subject that you want to teach.

My degree is in political science, so idk if that translates into anything abroad. In the US I would be social sciences so I thought maybe I could teach history and social studies abroad.@@ESLTeacher365

You will typically need to have a teaching license unless you plan on teaching EFL/ESL.

@@flowerreads4540 Typically you go to university to become a teacher. It depends on where you are from, so I recommend looking at teacher training programs at your local university.

Is it super competitive? I’ve wanted to teach in Berlin for years and it’s feeling like how’s my time. Is it too late to apply for the upcoming school year? Will I even get an interview? I’m a certified teacher, 5+ years experience in elementary schools

A lot of international schools start hiring in Jan and Feb during international school job fairs. If you want to teach next year, I recommend joining an agency like Search Associates, Teach Away, TES, etc ASAP!

If you want to teach EFL abroad, then I recommend getting a TEFL certificate, especially since you would be considered a non-native speaker.

Australia is currently recruiting certified teachers through the Skilled Visa scheme. You can go to the official Australian immigration website to look at the requirements.
