"Tales from the darkside" is one of the best TV horror series, with great writing stories, improvisations, great camera work, with right point of views and so on, that come from real life, from real issues, dark, unfair things and so on., sometimes a fair verdict at the end, sometimes a double meaninig of ending, or twisted ending and so on.

Great list. I think my favorite episode is "Distant Signals" it's just so charming & dreamy with some stellar acting & a sweet story, It's different. A close second is Miss May Dusa. The Circus is so good & Strange Love is great too. Trick or Treat is a classic, they're so many to mention. I'm watching the Night Gallery series back to back with Tales and they just compliment each other.

Too many to list here but most of them made your list Alot of people thought I was an evil child because tales from the darkside, monsters, the 1980s twilight zone and Friday the 13th the series were some of my favorite shows back then but it's not because it's creepy and scary it's because I watched it with my all time favorite person in the world my grandmother I really miss her and those days she made my life awesomely amazing

I liked Seasons of Misbelief, Monsters in my Closet, The Last Car was a pure fright fest. Baker's Dozen, but the one of The most unique one ever in my opinion was If The Shoe Fits. It was weird but lighthearted too for Tales From The Darkside.

Had many of my favorites on here and under honorable mention. But I love Seasons of Belief and the episode with the older couple that get the girl in their hot tub, drugs her, and then later has her for dinner, like they did to their children. I also liked Answer Me. That episode scared the crap out of me as a kid.

Next to the Twilight Zone, Tales From The Darkside had the coolest opening narration of any of these anthology shows. I recently bought the DVD collection and am slowly rewatching the episodes, hoping to find some I haven't seen before or remind myself of ones I've forgotten. I'm glad you listed 'Let The Games Begin'. That one is one of my favorites as well. Some of my other favorites are: 'Distant Signals'. I'm a big Darren McGavin fan, so it was nice seeing him in this one. It's an odd episode, as it has no horror, and seems more like an 80's Twlight Zone or Amazing Stories episode; 'Dream Girl'. To be honest, part of that is because I was a hormonal teenager when I first saw it, and seeing Carolyn Seymour in her Swiss Miss costume really stuck with me through the years. Speaking of 1980's anthology shows, I'm hoping you will cover my favorite, the Ray Bradbury Theater.

I can't remember if it was a Tales From The Darkside episode or the Outer Limits remake, but I always remember this one episode about a man who sleeps with lots of women who was cursed to be an immortal black cat when he slept with a wizard's wife. He takes up with a virginal woman who reads lots of romance novels and at first she thinks he's going to be her One True Love, until he starts sleeping with her pretty neighbor and he laughs at her for thinking he could love anyone. So she drugs his drink and when he wakes up in cat form the next morning he's locked in a carrier and is at the vet to get neutered.

I have a couple questions, as I thought it was Tales from the Darkside, but since it was so long ago, I'm wondering if I'm mixing it up with another series like Tales from the Darkside. The first one is an episode where a guy who works for a company like Fed Ex or Ups and drives to this mysterious area where he ends up at a diner, and he cannot seem to find the address for a package he has to deliver. He stops in the diner, and asks where it is, but becomes frustrated when one of the customers says to him, he needs to drink some coffee first. I remember all the customers just seemed strange, anyhow the guy refuses to drink any coffee, and heads out trying to find the address, but every road he takes leads him back to this creepy diner. Eventually, he finally gives in to the man who had kept telling him to drink some of the coffee, and then after he does drink it, he loses his mind, which is what then you realize why the others seemed strange, as they all had probably stopped like he had and drank the coffee only to end up losing their minds and are stuck at this diner forever. There was no blood and gore in this, or creepy monsters, but that episode was more terrifying to me than a lot of episodes I have watched. I guess it's because it gives you that claustrophobia feeling. What made it more creepy for me was an experience I had later on, and it reminded me of that episode. I was traveling with my husband of that time back to central Florida, after a trip to New Orleans to see a rock concert we had been wanting to attend. Anyhow, it was lunch time and we were both hungry. We took some exit that was along interstate 10 and it was in a quite desolate area. The restaurant was large and had a barn style look to it, from what I remember. It wasn't crowded for such a big place at the peak hour of lunch time, which should have been a red flag, right off the bat, for a place that was so large. I remember when we walked in, it literally smelled like blood and grease! It wasn't dirty looking inside, but it did look old. I remember there being some dated looking blue wallpaper on the walls that had a yellowing color from being old, and there was the old style wood paneling below that, from what I remember. Anyhow, I began to feel a bit freaked out. A young hostess came up, and she seemed pretty normal acting, so I thought to myself that maybe I was just over reacting and scaring myself maybe. I remember there only being one other customer in the whole restaurant. He was an older gentleman with a beard, with a cup of coffee by his plate and looking down. We decided to order coffee's for ourselves, after the hostess asked what we would like to drink. She handed us menus then walked off. I remember reading the menu, but I couldn't seem to shake the very uneasy feeling I had being in there. Well, it had been like 20 minutes, and the hostess had not come back with our drinks and there was no waitress around in sight anywhere, and we still had not gotten our coffees. I remember noticing that the other customer still in the back of the restaurant was still looking down, and I just thought at the time that it seemed so odd, that he never lifted his head up from what I had noticed. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore, between the strange sickening smell, and the whole unnerving vibe of the place. I finally mentioned it to my husband of the time, who was relieved that I told him how uneasy I felt in there, and that it had been an awfully long time waiting for coffee, with the hostess never appearing since. He said, he also felt the same thing, and just wanted to leave, but didn't want to say anything, thinking I would think he was just being super paranoid. We both decided to get out of there, and forget about the coffee. We got out of there so quick, and never looked back. Since then I have wanted to see if I could find that place along I-10, but have not been able to find it, even though it was a large building that you couldn't miss. Was wondering if anyone from the panhandle of Florida between Tallahassee and Lake City may know about this place or seen it? LOL, sorry for the long post. My other question is an episode, where a woman is an artist, and she gets this real creepy painting, and she props it up, then kind of goes about her business painting scenes, but what she ends up painting are bad future events that happen to her later on. I want to say the title episode is something with Bad Karma in the title, I think. Anyhow, not sure these are Tales from the Darkside episodes, but if they are, I'd love to know the proper names of them, and see them again. They were both two of my favorite most creepy horror shorts I've seen.

I used to watch this show religiously when I was young, on my little black and white TV. They used to play it once a week on friday or saturday night on a local channel. I would wait with sickening joy for that intro. The shows were slightly humorous or tacky yet deeply disturbing. Never seen anything like it, and I bought the DVD set for my birthday 8 years ago. Sometimes made me feel voyeuristic, sometimes apathetic. Looking back, the underlying theme of the series was that Life is a horror movie (where all horrors come true :( till next time.....

All great episodes you mentioned, there are also a ton of awful ones too with bad acting, just boring or terrible stories, which would be cool to see listed too. Mookie and Pookie is 1 i disliked the most, and the 1s with the guy who trys to steal the winning lottery ticket of carol kane, nice idea but just terribly executed, and the 1 with the answer machine that takes over the guys life, both are bad episodes, decent ideas but there's zero development and the acting is terrible even for the time lol.

Over the years this TV series to me has often seemed like a cousin or forgotten stepchild of HBO's later anthology show "Tales from the Crypt". "Darkside" seems to have become eclipsed by the other show, and comes off more as a cult item. Of course TFTC had more budget money, but both shows were similar: sensational and macabre stories featuring famous actors and (usually) talented writers. Naturally, airing on premium cable, TFTC was able to do more with sexuality and violence/blood and language ... although those things do not guarantee a better story experience for the viewer. Also, I find that every anthology TV series has been 80% mediocrity and 20% gold when it comes to quality episodes ... whether it was "Twilight Zone", "Black Mirror", "Ray Bradbury Theater" or whatever. Lots of duds. But about "Darkside": "Inside the Closet" would be in my top five, no doubt. So simple and creepy. And Fritz Weaver makes anything better. Plus, you gotta love Lizzie the monster. That puppet must be around somewhere today. I found "Darkside" in my college days (mid to late 1980's) on WPIX channel 11 in the New York area. I enjoyed all the familiar faces in it-- Debbie Harry, William Hickey, Dorothy Lyman, Jerry Stiller, Darren McGavin, Christian Slater, Harry Anderson, etc. Of course, this viewpoint comes from a Gen X person, lol. Nicely done countdown and narration here. My only criticism is that you could lose the occasional profanity, as it smacks of shock value and nothing more; but that's my baggage, not yours. :)

But be was lied to, and he was skinned to get that beautiful huge tatoo on his back. I know it was a tales from the darkside. I used to watch this show at midnight on saturdays, and was scared so badly from this particular episode, i refused to go to sleep for sure that night. Another scaring me and scarring me, was the episode of a woman jealous of her rival, who's going to star in a beauty pagent. The shocking end of what the beauty pagent was really all about.
