Great video! Grace Under Pressure was an album that grew on me over time. The album ended up being #8 on my list for this deep dive.

Appreciated your having the following albums on your list for '84: Husker Du: Zen Arcade Minutemen: Double Nickels On The Dime Replacements: Let It Be Prince: Purple Rain All of them are essentials to me, and both Husker Du and the Minutemen are among my favorite bands of all time. I got into Metallica much later, with Master Of Puppets and Ride The Lightning being the only albums of theirs that really matter to me. I was also really fond of Will The Wolf Survive, by Los Lobos. Suffice to say, my top ten plays out differently from yours. But still, I love looking at lists (and making them). Thanks for sharing.

What's truly incredible is that Zen Arcade and Double Nickels came out within 24 hours from one another, Puppets II came out just month and a half before those two - all on the same label. That sort of timeless quality burst will never be repeated.

Awesome video Vanessa. My list is 30 albums and in chronological order of release date. We share a fair amount including the SST albums. I've been lucky enough to see Husker Du and Meat Puppets in the 80's. You asked for potential misses. You're obviously familiar with the Van Halen, R.E.M., U2 ,SRV etc. Thinking about what your taste is and what you might like, I can suggest these from my list: David Sylvian - Brilliant Trees; The d.b.'s - Like This; Los Lobos - How Will the Wolf Survive?; The Cramps - Bad Music for Bad People; Lloyd Cole & The Commotions - Rattlesnakes. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, I really love Marillion's "Fugazi." That's not an immediate one. And for anthologies, Einsturzende Neubauten's "Strategies Against Architecture" is my favorite industrial album of all time. As for your list, I should revisit The Blue Nile. I like that album, but it didn't make my list. Take care.

It would have been so cool to see Husker Du and Meat Puppets, I'm definitely jealous about that! I did hear some of the albums you suggested - "Love is For Lovers" by The dB's made my top songs list. My biggest miss though is likely that David Sylvian album. I had it on my list to check out but I never got to it and that is probably a mistake. I know many other people spoke of it highly as well so I will need to get to it. Thanks for watching!

Of course obviously everybody has their own personal perspective. I would have taken out a couple of those and put in U2, The Unforgettable Fire. Was a GREAT album. The singles Pride in the name of Love, the Unforgettable Fire, and of course U2's legendary concert ballad 'Bad'. Then of course you have the Epic Van Halen album 1984. LOL. Sammy Hagar went nuts on that album. I would have also thrown in Powerslave by Iron Maiden.

Powerslave and 1984 are my #16 and #18 respectively so they just missed. U2 is close too, I think it is one of their best albums with some great songs.

We have 15 in common for our top 25 (7 matches in the top 15) which probably is an indication of how not very deep the year was. 😂 And yeah, most of my list also consists of albums I’ve known for a long time, a few as far back as 1995 or 1996. Only 5 additions to my top 25 during the dive (Charly Garcia, Roger Hodgson, David Kauffman/Eric Caboor, Danny Elfman and Ultravox). Full top 25 list: 1. Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain 2. Metallica - Ride the Lightning 3. R.E.M. - Reckoning 4. Van Halen - 1984 5. The Replacements - Let It Be 6. Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense 7. XTC - The Big Express 8. Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain 9. Husker Du - Zen Arcade 10. The Smiths - The Smiths 11. Cocteau Twins - Treasure 12. Charly Garcia - Piano Bar 13. Roger Hodgson - In the Eye of the Storm 14. Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A. 15. David Kauffman & Eric Caboor - Songs From Suicide Bridge 16. Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime 17. U2 - The Unforgettable Fire 18. Danny Elfman - So-Lo 19. Robyn Hitchcock - I Often Dream of Trains 20. Ultravox - Lament 21. The Cars - Heartbeat City 22. The Pretenders - Learning to Crawl 23. Julian Cope - Fried 24. Rush - Grace Under Pressure 25. Meat Puppets - Meat Puppets II
