What tools do i take with me when i travel internationally for work?
Well it is a hard decision what to leave behind and what will infringe on my baggage allowance.
In the end i strip down to the bare basic tools.
This toolkit is for me as an industrial electrician working in mining, but you might get some ideas and i would love to hear what you include instead of my choices.
Cheers for watching and catch you on the next vid.
Ill leave some links here for the tools you see in this video, don't forget to shop around for better prices and support your local tool shop if you can.

I dig this guy sharing his special kit for a specific type of work. I have a kit of my own for different work that I’ve been refining for years. I’d like to see more videos like this.

Only “luxury” tool I cannot go without is a little Bahco 2058-br ratchet. It’s one of the most useful little things to me for tight spots.

You can’t lock that bag so I guess it is a carry-on so that means no leather man unless you drop it in your check bag or risk having it taken from you. BTW, pretty decent quality tools for the most part.

It goes In my luggage bag, 90 perfect of the tools in there would not make it past security, essentially it’s not just blades. I have seen all sorts confiscated .

Can I be a pain in the ass and ask some questions mate? I'm finishing my pre-app now and want to get into the industrial side of things. 1) What kind of apprenticeship did you do? 2) If you did it out on a mine, how was the lifestyle? I'm mature age and didn't want to be away from the family too much. 3) Can you transfer into your role later or will they only take people who did their apprenticeship in the mines? Any other insights would really be appreciated. Thank you for the videos.

1) What kind of apprenticeship did you do? I did an apprenticeship as an Electrical Mechanic, There is a couple different apprenticeships you can do but honestly the curriculum is the same and the resulting licene is equal for all intents and purposes. One is not better than the other its just a flaw in the system similar to me needing to get a licence in every state. I currently have three different licences, nothing extra was needed just another fee... I did my apprenticeship through a group training organisation that finds you employers and moves you around a bit for some diversity in your learning. Theoretically you get promised that you will do all aspects of the trade and be exposed to as much of the different industries as possible. In reality this is false marketing and is designed to get you to sign up. These organisations are essentially labour hire companies that are looking to make money off your labour by "hiring you out" to different companies. The other flip of the coin is it one of the best ways to get into the industry and like most things it's what you make of it. They are required by law to keep you employed throughout your whole apprenticeship, and you would have to do some pretty bad stuff to be let go (malicious conduct ect ect) The key to working for a Group Hire company like this on an apprenticeship level is to tick every box and constantly pressure about getting where you want to go when the opportunities arise. Making your own contacts as you meet people and ensuring you never trust them to look out for you in terms of jobs you will get sent to and be proactive about making moves yourself. Keep in contact with all your own connections because if a company asks for you by name they will always fold and send you there. Getting into mining with these sorts of organisations can be hard and is competitive because of the pay. You can find apprenticeships direct with bigger companies doing maintenance or working locally doing domestic. but you will be stuck doing that for your whole time and will find it extremely hard to transfer. 2) If you did it out on a mine, how was the lifestyle? I'm mature age and didn't want to be away from the family too much. I my first two years i did not get into fifo, but i did push to head towards industrial and by the time i turned third year i was into mining construction. Once i got into it i never looked back, i enjoy traveling around and you make a lot of good friends and have a lot of great experiences you would not normally have. These days the swings are a lot more easy on people with families, but it's really up to the individual, The social media and technology in our pockets makes a lot of the old isolation a lot less evident. I find you get quality time at home when you get a full week off than working 6 days a week. If you have one sunday off a week over four weeks you only get 4 days off, compare that to a full week every 3-4 weeks. If you want to be 9-5 Monday to Friday you will struggle to make money for a family as an apprentice. 3) Can you transfer into your role later or will they only take people who did their apprenticeship in the mines? Experience is king. If you don't have experience they will always take the guy standing next to you with experience. That being said can always find work if you are keen. Depending on the workforce demands you will be able to pick up shut down work and little jobs to get your foot in the door. If someone cant get a start they have not tried hard/long enough. I have worked alongside plenty of people who were "green" as hell and had no idea what they were doing but the job required numbers and as long as you are willing to learn and listen you do fine and most people pick things up quickly. When people rate a crew member the heaviest indicator if they are good is if they work with lads and listed to the lads. Know it alls don't get far. Hope that gives you some help.

I see you’re in an area of the world that uses metric, so you ever bring anything in SAE or standard sizes?

Nothing, I have never used annything but metric for installation. The odd time I come across it will be from American vendors but it’s rare that it isn’t spec’d in metric from the client.
