Great suggestions! I’ve done quite few of these, all good ideas. I also added the blackout badge over the rear Toyota symbol (I hate chrome), removed ALL the other badging (just warm it up lightly with a hair dryer, and use floss or fishing line to get behind it and it pops off easily). I added a set of TAC 3” side steps for a beefy look, and to help the kids climb in back (they’re inexpensive and there’s a terrific install video on YT). I always add molded all-weather mats (including a 1-piece rear that will catch any spilled drinks etc.) they’re a must in snow country (I got a set of Toyota brand on eBay for half retail price). Installed rain guards on the windows so you can get ventilation without getting wet - Autoclover 6 piece set - looks great too. Thanks for the vid!
@richgibson18162 жыл бұрын
Excellent! And your welcome of course! Mine is the TRD model so it came with all the mats, but I had to change out the drivers side because of poor coverage. Thanks for the “how to” on getting rid of badges. I’m headed to Costco tomorrow for Michelin tires. The TRD off-road tires are horrible in the snow… I’ll change them out for summer to tow my boat. I just traded in my 2019 for the new 2023 Limited...the brand new huge nav system screen is fantastic...wireless Apple / Android connectivity too. Going to use the bumpers for heated steering wheel button. Also, the little tray for the center console is great! And the little zip bags for the area above the glove box...wonderful. Here's one for you..the owner's manual and other manual books take up a ton of room in the glove box...put them in a strong zip lock bag and move to the area where the spare tire is under the rear deck. I mean, how many times a day...week...month do you grab the owners manual. Cheers!

Pretty good when they were new, but at 22,000 miles I went to Costco and put on Michelin Defenders. I’m in Utah visiting friends and the new tires are quieter, better mileage and are really good in snow and rain. Thank you for sharing your upgrades. Very useful. Most toyota dealers charge that price for a hitch because that hitch is way up in the bumper further than that one you have. They fab the bumper for it. Plus, that price includes the wiring labor, for trailer connection. However, my dealership charges 900 for the whole thing. I plan to install mine too. The hitch is at summit racing, which is close to me. They have the wring kit, too. Should have $250 in it when I'm done.
@richgibson18162 жыл бұрын
So I wanted the factory installed hitch, but my Rav 4 was actually ordered by someone else without it, and when they backed out of the deal, I bought it. So when it’s installed at the factory it’s easy for them because they build it into the process. At the dealer they need to take panels off and it jacks the price up. I also considered the height, and the factory hitch is about 2 to 3 inches above mine… so I used a ball mount with 8 inches of extension and my boat is level at the tongue. This worked for me and I’m sure you’ll do great with yours. Thanks for the great comments and Merry Christmas!

Great upgrade suggestions. Thank you,
@nofyfb123 Жыл бұрын
All these upgrades are useful. I personally don't need a tow hitch - I have a couple of 4Runners to pull stuff. One item I would not replace - door window/lock switch. Yes, it sucks that Toyota doesn't have them fully illuminated but at least it's Toyota, and it works. Aftermarket stuff may or may not.
@richgibson1816 Жыл бұрын
You make a good point. I’ve had the illuminated door window switch for almost two years. Works just great so fa and so much easier to see and use for me… That said, it’s not like I threw out the original switches. I have them along with all the parts I switched out just in case. Some things are good for some, not all things are good for all. Thanks for chiming in. Be well, cheers

Very interesting as I am about to get a 2020 Rav4. Fortunately the previous owner put front and rear dashcams on. On thing I like to do on all of my cars, is put an anti reflective cover on the dashboard to stop a head up display when the sun is shining. I think there are custom covers available, but I often get an old black T-Shirt and cut it to suit, holding it in place with some blu-tac. It really improves the forward vision.

the hitch diffrerence from the dealer they will cut the bumper and the hitch will sit about 2 inches higher which is crucial because I had an issue where my bike rack will scrape the road when merging in on a steep incline. They will also add electrical. I paid only 800 for ut to be done and I never had the issue again.
@richgibson181615 күн бұрын
@@jonathangarcia4959 I tried to get the dealer to do it. My salesperson, who was horrible, said it would be about $500. The. It came in and they wanted $1500. For me, having the hitch ball elevated worked for towing my boat, but you’re right if you need to use the hitch straight, it would be very low… thanks for the observation and adding to the comments… cheers!

Hey, Rich! Nice modifications! It's a pity that in Russia they fine police officers for non-factory modifications! So I replaced the interior lamps in my rab4 with LEDs and threw out the factory high frequency speakers in the front panel. The new alpine speakers sound great. Let's upgrade our Toyotas to Lexus level :)

These are some really great accessories! One thing you didnt show that I am planning to install is an Auto-start-stop eliminator to permanently disable the auto start stop which I absolutely hate. Amazon also has this available and its just a small harness that plugs inline to the switch under the climate controls.
@richgibson18163 ай бұрын
@@p51mustang31 is that for the hybrid? My TRD doesn’t auto start/stop that I know of! 🤔🤪 And glad you liked it…cheers!

@@richgibson1816 no this is just the regular gas model in Limited trim. That's interesting, I assumed all trims had the auto-start stop function, interrstinf that the TRD does not.

@@p51mustang31 Hey. No, mine does not, and if it did, I would disable it. Mines a 21 and maybe it came standard after mine. Seems like it would just wear your Rav 4 out faster and not really save that much on gas. Good luck!

hello thanks for great video but one question is that can orignal 12v? battery installed can accomodate whole electricity needed for new mods? I have rav4 but kinda scared to do mods yet haha
@richgibson1816 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Most everything is LED, so very low draw. To be honest, after living on a boat, these mods were kinda second nature. And they all are working (to the most part) when the TRD is on, so no worries. Take ‘em slow, and once they are installed, you’ll be a happy Rav 4 owner! And Merry Christmas

Rich, could you please give a little more info on the towing hitch. Maybe a link. I am picking up a new 2023 Rav4 xle tomorrow and would love to add a hitch. Torq lift doesn't even list them as a item. Help with brand and website please. BTW, like or mods.

torkliftcentral.com/2006-2012-toyota-rav4-ecohitch Torklift is who I bought it through. Ecohitch is the brand name… it’s a bit confusing. Call them, they were really helpful to me… And hit the link and it will take you right to the hitch. Pretty easy and straightforward to install. Just know you’ll have to take off the muffler rubber holders and drop it to install the hitch. I used a floor jack to hold the hitch while I installed it. And you have to make sure you torq it to the right pressure…don’t guess. So check out the link, give them a call and ask more questions if you like and I’ll get back to you… glad to help!

For the wiring that you ordered with the speakers, they say that the wires may have to be switched before install. Did you have to do that?
@richgibson18162 жыл бұрын
It was really easy. Undo the speaker. Just look for the small (tiny) release clip on the speaker wire where it’s attached, depress it, and take off the standard speaker. Plug in the new wire to the existing wire and plug the new wire into the Jbl speaker. Feed the wire into the hole where the speaker goes and put the screws back in. Put on the cover and enjoy it! You can do it! Cheers
