The previous generation had a manufacturing flaw that some people don't know about, the issue was that the owners died of old age before the vehicles did. If you wish to avoid this problem, avoid this brand, and look to the European manufactures.

I had one of these last year. It as a 2019 hybrid version. It had 203K klms on it, it was a work car and the previous employee who had it before me lived 100km away from work so was doing 200 klms plus the Klm’s during work, and drove very well. I had it replaced with the current model 1 year ago now, and it drives the same as the one which had 203K klms on it. It’s got the torque of a V6 , with the fuel economy of a Corolla. What I don’t like is that the interior door opening handles are as black as the door trims, which means you fumble around for the handle at night. This Is in the entry level model. I previously had a current model Hyundai Tucson 4cylinder Petrol, and that has better standard features than the RAV4 , like lumbar support, slightly larger boot & a mute button for the radio.

I have a 2021 Edge model. Everything works well, mechanically reliable. Superb JBL sound system. Rear incoming traffic/pedestrian warning system is very useful. Lane-tracking assistance (LTA) works well, but you must familiarise with the screen icon (by reading the manual carefully) to really understand what the LTA is doing, so you know when to let the car to steer, or when you have to steer. Few minor complaints: Unable to easily update the map (still can't do it through the phone App). The iphone charger base sometimes works. When there's frost over the radar during winter, it doesn't work during sub-zero temperatures. Dust/crumbs get into the vent holes on the seats (so no eating in the car). During rainy days, water drips onto rear seats when you open the door. I never really used mud/sand/dirt off-road modes since my purchase. It has so many different types of beeps, can be confusing. Low fuel warning message comes on way too early, in my view.

base GX trim FWD models were available in manual until MY2020 but not anymore. They also depreciated the most out of all RAV4 variants not because of decreased reliability or parts avaiability but purely because of low demand. They are a great deal to buy used imo because you somewhat dodge toyota tax whilst retaining all the benefits of paying said tax and toyota's cvt (only toyota does this) has a separate first gear for taking off to ease wear and tear because a cvt's point of failure is the fragility of the transmission and getting a car moving from standstill requires the most force.

When I saw the restyled 2019 I did not like it. I don't like a "chiseled" look but the 2018 to me had a more "elegant" and smooth styling. Just a personal preference. I also don't like direct injected engines that started on the '19 models. So we went looking for a new 2018 RAV4 XLE hybrid with a CVT. Found one new with upgraded stereo and navigation and I like the in dash display and don't like those stick up screens. I also wanted the old reliable 2.5L port injected engine. Bought a few accessories and off we went. The BEST vehicle we ever owned. We own a vacation condo and I can make the 400 mile trip on a FULL tank. If looking used I would not rule out a 2018 or last generation model with good miles and a good service history. The reason I tell you this is that the previous generation may be a real good value. Maintenance tip: I did not know the RAV4 hybrids have a 12volt battery under the cargo tray in the back. Toyota changed it for me at about 380US dollars. The dealer service mgr said he recommends a 5 year change. I don;t know if it is a special 12V for hybrids but he had to order a Toyota battery.

Yes the RAV 4 is a good thing, however, the used cost is about the same as a similar Lexus NX, which is much more refined to drive. So before you pull the RAV pin check the NX options.
@JoshuaTorresBerrocal2 ай бұрын
Exaaactly. I bought a 2019 NX AWD Hybrid instead of a Rav4 2024 FWD non-hybrid, and I'm so glad I did.

I used to have a 2020 RAV 4 GX Hybrid, and clocked over 100,000km in the time I had it (over 3 years) Sure it was reliable, efficient and not too bad to maintain (except for a new windscreen which was over $1000), however the handling and suspension in general was just horrible, as the car would lean into corners and bounce around like a 300,000km Commodore with flogged suspension, and this was throughout my time with this car... I'm not sure if higher trim levels are any different with this, but I believe they're the same... Otherwise, it performs like every other SUV on the road... It's not very fast or fun to drive which is to be expected for a car in this category... The takeaway from my comment is that the RAV4 will satisfy your needs, if you don't care too much about the horrible suspension, which rears its ugly head when taking sharper corners (including roundabouts) and somewhat rougher roads... Oh, and I forgot about the constant beeps and bongs, but I believe this can be switched off...

if it had a higher towing capacity (for example 2000kg) it would be the perfect SUV. CX5 has an advantage about this.

The hybrid filters is less of an issue because the fan doesn’t spin (slowly) until it’s 36 degrees C and cuts current draw to 20% once it hits 44C which the fan doesn’t even cool quick. To makes matters worse, the exhaust heat from the battery then recirculates under the seat without an escape that could become a rear seat heater. Separately, the hybrid bs non hybrid, isn’t just financial because the drivability improvements is massive. How much money do you put towards driving enjoyment? Water ingress also happens on the D pillar clips on the black plastic panel all using the ultra thin rubber gasket. It is even thinner than condoms which makes no sense given it’s trying to plug a hole in the trough of the roof gutters. Even shonky house builders don’t do that. Then you forget to mention the theft issue via the headlights. Then there’s the wonky exhaust pipe. Messure the distance between the exhaust pipe and the rear bumper. One will hang lower than the other. You’re welcome and you’ll never unsee this. Should I go on? Low beam being set too low. Brake likes very dim and doesn’t stand out. Toyota must have only has 2 LED allowance per car. Cheaping out on no illumination on the per window switches and door lock.

Had the displeasure of having 1 of these for 6 weeks for insurance. 6.0l per 100ks for a hybrid is atrocious (I was getting 9.7 from my BMW 5series) under powered, horrible driving position, feels like a 90's Mazda inside

Haha glitchy infotainment, just shuts down while driving multiple times

Kind of comparing apples to oranges but i do agree with the whole hybrid thing - they dont save enough money to warrant the upfront cost. Id buy a bmw for performance, toyota for reliability for going to get groceries Higher trim toyotas do actually get quite nice inside, much closer to bmw levels of luxury. I do wish we had more colour options though. Every car is just silver and black inside, its just boring.
@coffeeman39132 ай бұрын
@@TheSilentStrykeit was a 20yr old BMW and I would have thought that Toyota would have brought their drive pleasure up by now, still felt like a 90's car not a $60grand car

Have a 2020 Cruiser hybrid 2wd. Got 70k kms and predictability it's been totally reliable. But it does have some really really annoying issues. Non (automatic) folding mirrors. Unbelievable for a near top of range model. Very annoying if you have tight garage space mirrors and used to that feature in your much older car. Yep. Infotainment is absolutely crap and if you have a pre August 2020 model you have to get Toyota to retrofit Android Auto Apple Car Play when the competition have had that feature foryears The voice-activated navigation is comical. But at the end of the day it's reliable, economical and has class leading excellent "boot" space. If I had the money though I would replace with a PHEV outlander. Recently rode in a Uber. Miles ahead of RAV for interior comfort, features and luxurious feel.

You guys failed to mention the COOLANT BYPASS VALVE failures on the 5th generation RAV4 ! This POS valve fails frequently in as little as 20K miles. In the US dealers charge $1000 to replace it and there is currently a federal class action lawsuit against Toyota because of this defective coolant bypass valve.

my friend had one of those made in 2021 , horrible driving dynamics , cheap and nasty interior for a 40k+ euros car, noisy and felt like you were sitting in tin can. Sure it has reliable engine but every other thing is shit.
@TheCaptjamestkirk3 ай бұрын
That was my experience too, my sister has one and I have drove it a few times. The engine is noisy and when out on the road the road and wind noise is bad. The interior does seem cheaply made, and me being a tall person " 6 foot 2" did not have a lot of room for me and the backseat is tight too. No doubt they are reliable and that is why most people probably buy them, but the vehicle itself does not impress me.
