Maybe you didn't have those magical moments with vinyl finds this year, but we had many magical moments with you throughout the year, watching your videos and keeping in touch through our comments. I appreciate the fact that you always read and answer all our comments, no matter what. Many KZbin channels neglect that aspect, though it might just be the overload.(by the way, Speaking in Tongues is my favorite Talking Heads record. David Byrne is a crazy genius)

Some cool finds. I also picked up that Alice Cooper this year. I just got back from a store that had records ( hope you are sitting down) for about a third less than sold prices on ebay and discogs. I asked the owner why..he told me, he wants to sell records and not keep them in his store. What a great concept. But i know other store owners are gonna go and then resell at their places for today's crazy prices.

Hi Melinda, thanks for another great video. My best time as a collector this year was completing the Bob Dylan Theme Time Radio Hour series. It is only on cd, sorry for that, on 114 discs, in 11 box sets. It took me years and years to complete this series in mint condition. It was released between 2006 and 2011. Hearing Bob as a disc jockey is really something special.... Love from the Netherlands, John

I think your comments about Mobile Fidelity make a lot of sense. All that shade they caught somewhat recently probably did make them a better company-- more transparent about their process, and perhaps even more committed (re-committed?) to making the highest quality records they can. I have that same pressing of Abraxis and I agree; it's outstanding. Thank you, Melinda for making your videos. I so enjoy "catching up" with you. I don't know that many people who collect records, so it's nice to have the community on KZbin to check in on what people are loving (and not loving sometimes haha)/their expert insights on all things records.

Melinda congratulations on the great records you got in 2024! The year was kind to me as well. I got two original pressings of the two Dust albums, a few original Frank Zappa albums, got all three albums (not originals) by a Japanese Krautrock/Psych band called Minami Deutsch (they are one of my favorite bands right now), The Doors RSD live in Sweden and in Detroit, Original boxset of Donovan’s “A Gift From A Flower to a Garden” with complete lyric sheets In folder, Chris Isaak’s very first original vinyl album, an minty original of the Ventures “In Space”, an OG Japanese pressing of The Moody Blues “Every Good Boy Deserves Favour”, an original Pharoah Sanders “Karma” , an original of Alice Coltrane’s “Journey in Satchidananda”, and the top of the top for my ears both different recordings/pressings of The Far East Family Band’s album from 1975 “Nipponjin” (German) and “The Cave Down to the Earth” (Japanese) which is the same songs, just re-recorded for a European market. Melinda, I got many more. I was bad this year! But it was so good! 2025 will be a good year as well, in particular I will get a new release from myself in the early part of the year! I’ll keep you updated! Congratulations on the new house, sound room, records, etc. Stay positive!

Congratulations, Melinda, on your new additions for 2024, especially the Santana MF...It truly is killer....no?!! I know, because I have an original MF pressing in my collection that I purchased circa 1972/73. And I must say that upon first listen, what really struck me was the silent background...I mean no ticks, no pops, no crackles...WOW!! a definite first in my listening experience!! And then came the sound of the beautiful wind chimes followed by the timbales and congas, and then of course Carlos' beautiful guitar. Definitely, a perfect album from start to finish. I should give it a listen as it's been a few years since I've played it. Thanks for sharing Melinda...its always a joy watching your videos.

Hello Melinda. I have been a vinyl collector for over 50 years. I have been watching your channel and I really enjoy all of your videos. You and I think a lot a like and we have the same wide variety of taste in music. This year, the best additions I made to my collection, (all of these are 180 gram), Mobile Fidelity pressing of Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual, MFSL pressing of Men At Work - Cargo, The Police - Synchronicity, Bob Seger - Against The Wind, Pink Floyd - Animals, and Stan Getz Joao Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto (180 pressing on the black Verve label.) Other notable finds this year, (these are 120 pressings), Billy Joel - Glass Houses (original 1980 pressing), and Santana - Shango (original 1982 pressing). I like the way you mentioned Santana's album Abraxas. I do not have that one, but, yes, I agree that is a great album. I'm glad you were able to get a nice copy. Back in the day, we used to call that album "the white dove album". :) I hope you and your husband are doing well and you have a wonderful and safe holiday. Take care, my friend. Cheers and Happy Listening !. Best Wishes, Todd.

Oh wow! You had an amazing year.. I also have that Cyndi Lauper MoFi and it's great. The Santana MoFi is absolutely stunning. I highly recommend it if you are searching for a copy of that album. Hello Melinda! I imagine with a collection like yours that it gets harder to find a lot of those “Wow”! records as easily as you did earlier in your collecting. Looks like you are still getting lots of cool records. After watching this, I just downloaded that Brian Wilson to see if I want to seek out the vinyl. The Talking Heads promo is a great find. The Pink Floyd is an amazing buy. The analog production of Welcome to My Nightmare has to sound great! My cheap copy sounds good so I can only imagine how good that one sounds. Finding School’s Out with the underwear is rare! That doesn’t make you weird, just a collector. I’ve heard nothing but good things about that Black Sabbath reissue. Oooo that VH II has to be incredible. Ted Templeman did terrific work with VH so this remaster must be amazing. Wish you Were Here half speed master?! Dang. I’d say you ended up with a pretty great year MM! Thanks for all the great videos and inspiration. You are in a league all your own. Have a safe and happy holiday season with your family Florida Girl!

I had a great year. I sound like such a whiner at the beginning of this video. Lol. It does get harder to find grail records at my stage of the game. Money also plays a part in whether I buy something or not. The records I'm after are more than I am willing to spend. Lol. This version of Welcome to my Nightmare does sound great but originals are always a good bet. Thank you and happy holidays. 🤗♥️🎄🎁

Melinda- enjoy seeing you in your new audio room. This video was really helpful. You validate my Abraxas LP purchase, by Mobil Fidelity and the Pink Floyd LPs. Have not yet played the numbered Abraxas ( I have numerous year versions), but the 33 1/3 play and and mastering, should make it a high value compared to the 45 version. What speakers did you end up with? Thanks for your updates just prior to the Christmas holidays- Enjoy!

Santana ! ! ! WooHoo! Excellent list of fav's; tks for sharing. My magical '24 moment was digging out the 'phono player' I had in college, dusting off my 100-or-so oldies-but-slightly-moldies, and time tripping back to the '70s and '80s. You easily forget about all the good music both past and present. Thanks for your passion, it's fueling my renewed interest in the "large format" sound delivery system ;)

Hey Melinda! I've been to Micanopy (Mih-cuh-no-pee) many times - I live just south of there. Right next to where you found the records used to be O'Brisky Books where they had original copies of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings "The Yearling." In 1983 May Steenbergen walked the sidewalk there in the movie Cross Creek (Watch that movie) when she played Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings life story. Did you go tot he Micanopy museum? If not go - very educational on the real Florida. Nearby is a must see - Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings State Park farmhouse and grounds - walk around there. Then you can go to Orange Grove to Antioch Cemetery down an old gravel road to see her grave. You can eat at The Yearling Restaurant - another must see place. Enjoy!

Dear Melinda, thanks for the great video! As for me, I'm more a listener than a collector, it doesn't matter to me what kind of press it is, what country made the record, the main thing for me is the sound quality and the condition of the record. I collect calm and melodic music, it can be music of different genres, but the main thing is that it shouldn't cut my ears! This year was rich in purchasing records, near 150 records, but I'm just starting my journey in this direction, from December 2023. More precisely, I'm continuing after a 30-year break
@MelindaMurphy4 сағат бұрын
We're a lot alike. I have my little collectors quirks like finding a record with the original poster inside but for the most part, I just want the best sounding copy that I can afford. It does come down to the listening experience. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️

Hi Melinda. Your reviews always, ALWAYS lighten my mood. As you know I can’t use LPs or turntables. But you MUST listen to Pink Floyd DSOTM ‘Live at Wembley, 1974’ on vinyl. And Lainey Wilson’s ‘WHIRLWIND’….. I think Alison Krauss’s voice is the best, but LW comes close. I’m a really traditional Englishman and feel a fraud singing real Country music….. but this is awesome….. and despite my speech problems I do sing…… badly!

Thank you for the kind words. ♥️ I do have the Live at Wembley album. It is wonderful. It's hard to believe they can play DSOTM live so well due to all of the special effects. Thank you and take good care of yourself. ♥️

Another great video, Melinda! I have to say, and I can't believe it myself, but I really liked the 6 Beatles 1964 mono LP's the best this year. I bought the individual albums because the boxed set was priced $100. too high. The first Beatles album I ever got was Capitol's "Meet The Beatles", mono version, when it originally came out. This is how I first heard The Beatles. The new re-issues brought back great memories. I absolutely hate mono, but the way Capitol messed up their stereo version really disappointed me. Just like the "Sgt. Peppers.." album in stereo was irritating to listen to(especially with headphones), the mono version was better. It wasn't until they re-mixed the album in stereo, and balanced it out, that I could stand to listen to it.

You must be an Old Soul, Melinda, with your love of jazz & '70's/'80's music! I only bought 5 or 6 LPs this year (plus 10 or 12 CDs), but most were new. I will recommend a new one I love to the music lovers here. I enjoy music that can take you on a journey and I bought *The Last Flight* from Public Service Broadcasting. The band use keyboards, drums, singers & spoken word to tell the story of Amelia Earhart's around the world flight attempt in the 1930's. The graphics are gorgeous on the gatefold LP version too (I got the zoetrope picture disc).

Yeah, I'm with you Melinda. I love collecting (vinyl record collecting is only one of my collecting passions - much to my wife's disappointment, lol), and once collecting a certain type of product or ephemera gets popular, the prices sky rocket and the scarcity of "cool finds in the wild" becomes much more pronounced. It's a pity that this has to happen, but for us collectors who collected before the fad began, just sit tight and weather the storm ... eventually the craze will die down and us lifers can resume our normal collecting activity.

I remember those cool things those early pressing contained such as the paper panties which was known as kinda rare even way back in the day. Another funny one was Big Bambu with its giant rolling paper. Some people actually used it I believe. lol I remember a long time ago my brother pointed out the writing in the dead wax area of Led Zeppelin III, and II I think, that read ` Do What Thou Wilt` and `So Mote It Be` Not sure I still have those copies. I do have some half-speed master copies of I think Jeff Beck, and some other, I need to go check. Great stuff you picked up there. Happy for you.

You got amazing 20 records that you pick up this year in 2024 especially the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell album great for black Friday deals. This past weekend I went to the flea market I buy 4 cds f and 11 vinyl records cds for 5 bucks and 11 records for 60 bucks and yesterday I went out to my favorite independent record store called monster music aka manifest records I buy 2 or 3 cds and one vinyl is crazy because in this past week I buy 3 motown releases that are very hard to find I let you know next time and also Melinda I know you live in Florida is a independent radio station that plays nothing but classic jazz all day and night 24/7 is in Florida I listen on streaming because I live in south Carolina the station is called wdna 88.9fm is in Miami Florida I love that radio station is independent with no commercials is funded I think you will love that station where you at. If you won't mind, could you please share your opinion on the sound quality. I like this Music On Vinyl version but I can't help but think the original would sound better. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
@zacharyhbwells23 сағат бұрын
Absolutely. I would say it’s a pleasant listen. It’s warm and rich. It reminds me of good Southside Johnny records. The vinyl is not quiet black space. There isn’t revealing separation between instruments. I don’t think anyone would call it audiophile. But it’s great music and a pleasing presentation. The EQ is pretty balanced but maybe it lacks dynamics. It sounds real, but like good jukebox real. It gets a 90 on discogs which I’d say is about right in my experience. I love your channel by the way! Great end of year video!

I don't know how religious you are Miss. But one vinyl I consider a lucky find was a 3 for one of GREGORIAN CHANTS. ✝ RECORD 1 had ADVENT ✝, and CHRISTMAS chants ✝. Then some LENT chants. Then it goes into EASTER. ✝ The 2nd record goes into PENTECOST. ✝ Then it goes into some VEPERS. ✝ Then on the 3rd record there are some REQUIEM chants. ✝ The year of this collection appears to be 1973. These are old records I buy. So I don't complain about a few pops. I expect that.

The Santana is appealing to me, despite having 2 copies already. But because I am in deep research on new equipment, and have a huge backlog of unplayed LPs, DVDs and Blu-rays, it's best I demur from any further vinyl purchases. But note that I said it's "best" that I don't, not that I won't.

Lol. I completely understand what you mean. I am hoping that they will keep this Santana record in stock for a long time because it is absolutely awesome. Hey Melinda, I’m intrigued by your 2nd place selection… the CBS half speed pressing of Wish You Were Here! I’ve had one of those since they were $12!!! 😊 And I never thought it sounded all that good? I like the 30th anniversary version (the one that comes inside of a black bag). Wonder if you have heard that copy? Let me know!
@MelindaMurphy18 сағат бұрын
From what I have read about this half speed mastered pressing, there was an error on the first run of the record that was pressed in 1981. They corrected the problem and pressed more in 1982 that I have read sounds better. I have only heard mine (a 1982 copy) so I can't say that with complete confidence. I have only heard an original and the one that is available now. The half speed mastered version beats those but I have no idea about the 30th anniversary edition. Thank you and take care. 🤗♥️
@brenthenry122312 сағат бұрын
@ well, thank you for responding so quickly! I was wondering about that original pressing of the CBS Half Speed pressing, as I do recall them re-releasing it a couple of years later! I definitely have that first pressing, mine is year marked 1980. Well, it’s finally good to find out that it was just not me that thought the sound was not that great! But if you do get a chance to grab a copy of the 30th anniversary copy it is sooo much better! Anyways great chatting… I finally grabbed a copy of the MoFi Abraxas LP… well it’s in the mail, supposed to arrive before Christmas! Can’t wait to hear that one! I also have the CBS Half Speed version of that album… which does sound fantastic! Can’t wait to do a compare!

You didn't have any big WOW vinyl record moments this year? After seeing those records in your video, I'd say that you definitely had some WOW moments. 👏There are three titles you showed that make me drool. The Pink Floyd WYWH half speed master is a delightful vinyl album; I have both the first issue and the pitch corrected second issue that came later. 😻The Getz-Gilberto and Sinatra Impex titles are truly the cat's meow. 😻 I can't really say what my best records for the year are, because I will very likely receive some for Christmas. I also didn't buy very many records this year because of my plans to move and due to the acquisition of the Fender Stratocaster guitar I told you about. I've shared my Impex and other vinyl record wants with my wife. Hopefully something nice will come my way on Christmas morning. When I hear people say that the MoFi Santana Abraxas album is fabulous, I just laugh. 🤣 If Chad Kassam or anyone else presses an all analogue version in the UHQR format, I bet that it will become the quintessential audiophile version of the album. 💪👊

I agree. I sound like a whiney baby in the beginning of this video. 😄 I did add some amazing records to my collection and I gained a music room. I seriously can't complain. Life is good. ♥️. The Pink Floyd album is definitely a highlight. From the research I have done, my copy is a later one that was corrected and it sounds wonderful. If an audiophile record label reissues it, I will buy it all over again with no hesitation. Pink Floyd is worth the money. I hope you receive the 1Step you are truly wanting. The Getz/Gilberto shines for its sound quality and the Sinatra one is great for its packaging and wonderful book. The sound quality is very good but the Getz/Gilberto is just one of those special releases. ♥️ You reached an amazing goal by acquiring the guitar of your dreams. That's awesome and I know it has brought you countless hours of enjoyment. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and that you and your family have a bright and healthy new year. Take care. ♥️🤗

THAT was the album I tried to reserve on MOFI and got shut out repeatedly, so I just said "the hell with it" and ordered the plain, ordinary, and IMHO, GREAT sounding version from Amazon for around $25. After both of my old Sony and Yamaha AVR's I had doing duty for my turntable gave up the ghost, I went ahead and bought the Denon PMA-600NE integrated amp, and with some trepidation based on some of the reviews on KZbin that said it was to warm or laid back or whatever, I hooked her up and slapped on Alanis's Jagged Little Pill (another one of my buys this year) and My Gods, it just blew those two older AVR's AWAY! If this is what "WARM" is supposed to sound like, then it's fine with me, at least paired with my Fluance RT-84 with Ortophon Blue, an ART DJPRE II phono pre-amp, and my now burned in ELAC Debut 5.2's. I know this is probably considered "Low Fi" in a lot of circles, but it works pretty damn good for my old ears and strained budget. My best album's of this year? Hmmm......I think that would be a toss up between James McMurtry's "Childish Things, Wings "Venus and Mars" and Santana's "Abraxis". Maybe one day I'll win the lottery and be able to nab one of those MOFI One Steps, but if and until when that happens, I guess I'll be happily ignorant and grateful to listen to the plain, ordinary, and terribly scuffed records I do have in my meager collection. GREAT video as always, Melinda. Say hello to the hubby for me and you guys just keep on truckin'!!!!

Another thing you may already know this. You need a quadraphonic cartridge to enjoy a quadraphonic record properly. So I don't know how it sounds with a regular cartridge I'm sure it's great. There are special edition blu-rays that have quadraphonic versions of these Floyd records. So you can get that true experience if you have some sort of Blu-ray Dolby or whatever sound system also, if you use a Blu-ray player with a computer instead of a video component you can play blu-rays or DVDs from any region with one of those. A multi-region Blu-ray player is $1,000. A computer Blu-ray drive is about $100. See what I mean? You got it.
