My favorite writer is the Faber Castell Loom. I have one each in a fine and medium nib. The latter writes wonderfully.

My everyday writers change with the wind or when the ink runs out, lol. My top three Opus 88 Omar - holds a lot of ink and the nib is extraordinarily smooth. Wing Sung 630 - what a lovely writer with its soft nib that has some line variation Jinhao 9019 - a huge pen but the converter holds ~1.7 ml of ink (more than some piston fillers) and a gorgeous #8 nib.

From these, I have the Diplomat A2 and the Lamy 2000. Both are good but the A2 I find just far more enjoyable to write with. The slip cap is perhaps the best of any pen anywhere.

Although currently I'm limited to one pen (I'm currently in cardiac rehab, and got only one I could use, here, mostly because it's cartridge only, so easier than one I'd fill from a bottle) a 1970 to 1974 Platinum pocket pen, though usually I have at least one Esterbrook, vintage of course, usually with my original nib type, the 2668 firm medium, and usually a 1940s Wahl-Eversharp Skyline (my ultimate favorite gold nibbed pen type.) Anything else is generally whatever goes with the use for the ink I have in it. Permanent ink? Generally something cheap that I don't worry about messing up. If I'm doing holiday cards with a shimmer ink, either a stubby Chinese pen I'm not worried about plugging, a dip pen or something I can disassemble for cleaning easily. Some pens are dedicated to certain inks. I only have Parker Quink microfilm black (from WWII) in my 1946 Parker 51 Vacumatic, for example. The ink of the month for me is really a deciding factor for the pen I tend to write with the most each month. And I like a wide variety of writing experiences, so I'm not regularly using the same pens.

I'm very tempted by the Diplomat Excellence. Just not sure between F or M. Their steel nib has such a good reputation it makes the gold not that compelling. But that two tone gold nib looks so stunning!

My wife commandeered my Diplomat Excellence A2 but I still have my Lamy 2000 with a 0.8mm stub that plays a far second banana to my Pilot Silvern.

Hey Mick. Thanks for your video. I have expensive pens. But i will tend to grab my all black Kaweco student fountain pens on my desk. They are underrated, but they write very well.

I randomly received your video as recommendation, and I'm SO happy to finally have found a fountain pen user that's left handed. Seriously, I have a serious trouble using FPs for being left handed, so I mostly suck with ballpoint, but you're making me want to go for it again. Did you pay any mind to customizations for letfies, or did you just adapt to write with regular nibs? Thank you!

not tried any of these: also a southpaw and my choice would be 1. Pilot78g+EF, 2. Sailor pro gear H-EF and 3. Platinum 3776 EF in Chartres blue w rhodium trim(one huge benefit of these 3 is that they don’t use the isc which is garbage imho:)

You were doing so well until the Lamy 2000, Mick! There, I had to diverge ftom your choices! I have tried to like that pen but simply cannot, so have now sold it. I just don't get on with the feel of it in my hand.

@@theoffstageme I fing I get on much better with the cheaper Lamy pens: Safari, Studio. I need to investigate your highly commended. I only have an Esterbrook Estie from that brand.

Top drawer list, Mick. Funny how they are all black pens, too. A third of my own collection is actually various black pens. 🙂 Interesting and nice to see the Esterbrook Camden still feature among your most liked, trusted and regular writers. I own the same graphite black Camden with the B nib. A great pen, all round. I already easily seconded your love for the Diplomat pen in your review of the pen the other day. The Gravitas pen is so appealing. I don’t have a Gravitas pen yet. But yours here reminded me of my fondness for the black ebonite Namisu pen I own. The Lamy 2000 goes without saying. I own three (one in steel), in the M, B and BB nibs, Any one of my trio is invariably inked through the year. My own ‘current’ top 3 daily writers are: Aurora 88 (vintage) (M) Sheaffer PFM V (M) Sailor Pro Gear (B)

I don’t have any Namisu… but that Ebonite is so nice. Crazy. Also, I don’t have an Aurora 88… how does it feel in the hand?
@sajjadhusain4146
@sajjadhusain4146 7 ай бұрын
@@theoffstageme Yea, the ebonite Namisu is extremely lovely. As is the all-titanium bodied one. I own both. The Aurora 88 is possibly my favorite pen ever. I own six of the modern ones and two of the vintage originals. The vintage 88 is a true classic and feels superb, just perfect in hand, owing to its length, design, dimensions, weight , the touch of the smooth black celluloid body and the ebonite section. The very smooth piston system - and that semi-hooded styled (a la Lamy 2000) 14k gold nib, which is quite sublime, no kidding. It is such a sweet thrill to write with that pen. I’d like to keep it inked every day of the year, but I choose to give this 70-year old classic a break a few times a year.

Lamy 2000 medium nib/fine nib , does lamy change line width in nibs in modern 2k in comparison to older ones ?..I am little confused as I have seen different line widths in different videos for the same nib..!
