Do you think these books would be helpful in Washington state?
@OkanaganGardenerandForager3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think so. The Pacific Northwest is commonly defined as Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and BC, Canada, so I think there is considerable overlap in terms of the plants you can find in this region. Plants of Southern Interior British Columbia & the Inland Northwest covers from the Rocky Mountains to the Coast Mountains and the Interior of Washington and Idaho. The Edible and Medicinal Plants of Canada might be less relevant because it covers plants all across Canada, but it also might be my favorite of the three. I think the ecology of this region isn't particularly concerned with human made borders!

Not anything formal at this time other than a biology degree. There is a school in BC, Dominion Herbal College. They appear to be pretty reputable. Here's a link to their website. Hopefully that helps! www.dominionherbalcollege.com/

I just today purchased the book entitled, Pacific Northwest Medicinal Plants, by Scott Kloos. And, yes, I purchased from a small business with one location instead of the online behemoth. LOL. Anyway, typed Scott Kloos' name into the toob and your video came up. 😃 I spent quite awhile perusing the options before deciding on this one and from what I've read so far it seems very thorough. I'm thrilled that you rated it so highly. As you mention, this book focuses on medicinal plants with one or two mentions of edibles but I loved that it provides recipes for tinctures. The pictures are outstanding. Although at 72 I'm no stranger to wildlands, I am new to foraging. This book is going to be very helpful. I travel, camp, and hike mostly in Oregon for now. Anyway, thanks for reviewing these books. You have a new subscriber. 💖

Awesome! That looks like a good one to me. I wonder how much overlap there is compared to the Canada one. I should probably get a copy. It's always good to have books on hand!

Thanks for the video! It’s exactly what I was looking for. I’ve slowly been going thru library books to find one I want to buy but the best ones are waitlisted ☹️. I’m up in northern Alberta and it’s hard finding books that are more specific for here...this definitely helps! I’ll keep watching for more videos :)

The days of cold, and now snow, may have ended our 2020 gardening seasons. I do not think we will get more chard or mustard greens any more

Hopefully not too long until we can start for next season!
