Yeah, it's actually unusual for me to like winners as much as I do here. But, for some reason, the 90's were much better at getting the actual deserving songs as winners.

I was looking forward to this, and I am not disappointed! Seriously, apart from one polarizing song (which I still admit, has its charms), I either like or love the songs on this list. Most of them are either on my playlist, or close by, or mid-list at lowest. Some of them are among my alltime favorites too! ❤❤❤

Really glad! I knew we were going to be on pretty safe ground with most of them and, those I didn't, happy that you're onboard with. I would definitely say the top two are all-timers for me, especially for the time.

I love to see this video from you! Can't wait for the other decades. I like 80% of all songs here, even some which I might not have considered for my top 40. Also I especially appreciate the inclusion of 4 Greek entries. We really sent some gems during the 90s which were sadly overlooked (except for 1992-3).

Thanks so much! I'll have a revisit of the 2000's and hopefully, will be able to make a similar video for it. And, who knows, maybe I'll even get to the 80's! Glad you liked most of the songs! Actually, in the decade, there were only a few I properly didn't like. Most of it was enjoyable. The live orchestra helped for a lot. I liked the approach that Greece took in the 90's where they really went for it and either got it really right, or badly wrong.

@@kaleproject3495 Thank you for replying. I also like that you have included all 4 Irish winners from the 90s. I agree that the orchestra (and live music in general) feels great to listen to, so much in fact that I secretly wish it would return to Eurovision (which is unrealistic tbh). Also there are some massive fan favourites which are missing from your top and I'm wondering why: 1. Love Shine A Light (UK 97) 2. C'est la dernier qui a parler qui a raison (FR 91) 3. Bandido (ESP 90) 4. Alle mine tankar (NOR 93) 5. Fiumi di parole (IT 97) 6. Diva (ISR 98) 7. Hajde da ludujemo (YUG 90) 8. Hemel en aarde (NL 98) 9. Neka mi ne svane (CR 98) 10. Insieme: 1992 (IT 90) 11. Ooh... Aah... Just A Little Bit (UK 96) 12. Minn hinsti dans (ISL 97) 13. Den Vilda (SWE 96) 14. Take Me To Your Heaven (SWE 99) 15. Kindnek mondjam al vetkeimet (HU 94)

@@dimidrugg9592 I think the contest, for better or for worse, has moved on from the live orchestra. The amount of people who watch/follow it now is huge compared to before and they've gotten used to a certain presentation. We can't ever go back. Thanks for asking me about these songs! I will be putting my full rankings up on my spreadsheet this week so you can check out any individual song there....but most of the ones you've listed were ranked solidly between 6.0-7.5 and just weren't strong enough for the list. Bandido was probably the closest to making it. It would probably be in the 50-60 range if I extended the list further. Insieme: 1992 wasn't far off either. I had it rated as a 7.5 and the songs in my top 40 were 8.0+. The ones that didn't do so well at all were Hungary '94, Sweden '96 and UK '97. All scored under a 6.0. Love Shine A Light is probably my lowest ranked winner of the 90's. It's just so bland.

@kaleproject3495 First of all, France 1991 might be one of my favourite performances with Ireland 1993 in the 90s, and as a french I grew up with this song so I was similar to it. There is such a classy yet effortless charisma of her ! And her voice is so captivating, she should have won imo

It might just be a 9/10 entry for me though! I haven't seen a lot of love for it elsewhere. But it definitely gives me that feeling you'd get from a good 90's Luther Vandross style duet. I like it a lot. As for my new intro/outro music, they're both tracks from the recent Sara Jo (Beovizija 2022) album. She's got some really good ones on there. :3

Hi! It was really interesting to see what you think of the 90's decade as I could expect some interesting picks - and I'm not disappointed :D For some strange reason I opted to comment year by year :) 1990 - agree that it isn't the most exciting year in the decade (though not the worst in my opinion), but my pick would be Spain or Belgium, as for Rita - she's more of an actress than a singer, I daresay. 1991 - Honestly, I'm on Amina's side between the two winners :) Greece and Portugal would both be in my top-3 (together with Spain, I think), Italy would be somewhere close. As for Malta - they had an absolutely dreadful run of songs in 1990s except for 'Could It Be' which might not be among my big favourites but is somewhere close to my top 10 1992 - In my opinion, this was the worst year with three highlights, of which you've mentioned two - Cyprus and Italy. Spain is kinda boring while Ireland's victory has always been a complete mystery to me (and even to her I guess: there should be a reason why she's asking 'Why me?!' :D ) 1993 - I've got some friends who honestly believe that Fazla has the best song _ever_ sung in Eurovision - but I don't really get it tbh. Sweden, Switzerland, France and Portugal would all be in my top 10 with Switzerland being my second (or third maybe). Not a fan of both Kaiti and Niamh though 'In Your Eyes' is way better than the previous Irish victory. 1994 - Not the brightest year again, all of your picks would be in my Top 10 of the year, I think, with Evridiki being maybe even my winner. 1995 - the year I like the most from the decade, I think, however, my favourites aren't very popular among the community (except for Norway). I do like the French, the Spanish and the Greek song, but I wouldn't put them too high on my list, Darja had a better song four years later and the UK isn't my cup of tea, to say the least :) 1996 - We disagree here completely :D maybe I'd only put Ireland somewhere near my Top 5. Hungary surely should've made it through, but I'm not sure I'd even put it to the left side of the scoreboard, as for Spain and Poland - they both had nice ideas behind the songs but the way they were actually put together and presented... ahem :/ 1997 - Yay for Horepse! Was really underrated in the contest. Not a fan of Dinle - I believe her previous year's effort is much more interesting than this one. France is cute but... not too special. 1998 - UK was a real hit so it deserved being here. Don't like the other two, frankly speaking - I think 'Sin rencor' was much better than Mikel's song and I don't think I've liked any of Turkey's ballads. 1999 - To be honest, you're the first person I've ever seen to enjoy that year's Polish entry :) Croatia is good but in my opinion a bit too overhyped in the community, while Iceland would surely be a much more decent winner than what we really had to get.

I agree with a lot of those (except your winner 😂). I also have a lot of sympathy for France 1991, 1992, Poland 1995 (I find this one quite awesome and unique) and Turkey 1996

I'll go to bat strongly for "In Your Eyes" so be warned! XD France 91, I get asked about a lot. The song is just too uneventful for it to really stay with me. I don't understand its placement in the contest. Definitely overrated. It's a nice listen though. I still gave it a 6.5. France '92 is actually in my top ten for that year! Again, it probably lacks a little impact but really liked what they were going for. I gave it a 7.0. I'm also getting asked a lot about Poland '95 and I can understand why people might think I would like it. And, the idea of it is fantastic. But, that vocal performance just kills the enjoyment of it. Respect what they were trying to do, but the execution was a no. Turkey '96 goes under the radar a bit. Guess with '96 being a strong year and there being better examples of that kind of song. I still gave it a 6.5 and put it just outside my top ten.

Funnily enough, I actually haven't found too many of the entries to be *that* experimental. France and Spain were doing some different things and maybe the UK were at least trying to be current with some of their choices but otherwise, I think a lot of countries settled into styles that were classic and that they knew worked. Having said that, I do like the classics and that's reflected in most of the songs I've got rated highly here.
