Fun to watch! Here’s mine: #5 BM 940. I try not to like this knife, but the wonderful design somehow manages to overpower the crappy QC of my sample. #4 ZT 0450. My first knife over $100 and my gateway to poverty😉! A bit thick behind the edge, but otherwise the standard by which I judge all other knives. #3 Spydiechef. No explanation needed. #2 CR Umnumzaan. If I was limited to one knife for my lifetime (EDC, dress-up, work, outdoors, game processing, longevity, pride of ownership, etc.) the drop point ‘Zaan would be the one. #1 Spyderco Southard. It gets a lot of harsh criticism, and it has some quirks, but I love it. Yes the (idiotic) washers are dished, but mine still flips great! The push-button technique suits me, the stonewash and grind are amazing, I even find the asymmetric scale thickness endearing. No one does eclectic like Spyderco. It’s like visiting an old friend each time I pick it up.

The code 4 was my gateway into cold steel. I remember seeing the spartan as my first cold steel and thought meh, looks like a toy with lots of plastic. Then in a local store a friend and i saw a code 4 in person and thought , that’s not bad fit and finish. We both purchased one there.

Personally my favorite edc knife is the Benchmade triage with the n680 steel blacked out sheepsfoot blade with a seat belt cutter and window breaker feels great in hand the black blade goes great with the orange g10 scales flys open fast with one hand closes one handed the same way easy and fast and is a proven tuff knife not to heavy but not super light just like I would want it unless I’m in gym shorts or jogging.

I am not a big Spydie fan...but I definitely own and use 2 PM2's with aftermarket scales, 1 Sage 5 and 1 Kapara.... I like and use all of them a lot....can't tell you which is used more....in my recent mix is a brand new Cheburkov Tukan, my Morff 5 and my Curtiss Medium F3 w/wharnie ....I also carry a Green Thorn clone of a Shiro F95 that I like so much I had Razor's Edge make me a scale for it...(I have a real Shiro F3R, but that stays in the house! LOL!).....and I will rotate in and out less expensive knives regularly....but right now that is most of my mix! 😎I am definitely not into the Kershaws on ANY Hinderer wannabies!...sorry...(not)...I do own a lot of WE's and they float in and out fo my carry as well! It's all tons of FUN!!!

Funny, I started out collecting Case knives, then went to Chinese Ganzo knives. Today I am more of a Microtech guy. I'm also a big fan of the Benchmade 940 (original green Al.) and the Kershaw Blur.

Sebenza is always the landmark in any serious folder collection. Nothing compares to it. I hate the axis lock of the benchmade, it engages further and further to the point where it reaches the end and blade will have play.

I had a bareknuckle for two days. Sent it right back. That detent is atrocious. If my hands were sweaty, or if you hit the tab just a little bit off, the blade wouldn't budge. I'm pretty disappointed with Kershaw lately.

I'd love to see a reviewer who hasn't watched or heard any other review channels and went into the knife world with zero bias. I highly doubt we'd see PM2s or 940s on all these top 5 lists. Really seems like all reviewers try to like the same things for "street cred".

But sometimes it's just to be part of the "cool kids club". I've used the PM2. There's no way it gets to the top of everyone's list without some sort of huge bias. Not with the thousands of other good designs out there.

That's your opinion. I have access to just about everything and I still carry the PM2 and the 940 all the time. How do you explain that they've both been made for like... ever. And have sold a ton. That's like saying that the VW Beetle was just a fad. You don't have to like it, but you kinda have to accept that a lot of people do.

Bornin1500 I’m just a regular dude, I have both the PM2 and the 940. I love them both. I don’t carry the PM2 much anymore, but I am currently carrying the 940. Both are in my own personal top 5. They really are great knives for guys that carry every day. Plus USA made is always a plus for me and many others.

Odds are you had a bias going into it because everyone else told you it should be a top 5 knife. People get huge biases from these reviews, whether you know it or it's subconscious.

What I find with those higher end Chinese companies is what you said, too many different models. This may just be my opinion, but I find that a lot of their knives have no soul/personality. The companies seem to just be ticking boxes that people look for in knives without actually thinking about how they will stand up to fads dying.

If you think the Sage 5 is nice, you owe it to yourself to carry the Sage 2 before they are all gone. Its everything the Sebenza should have been but isn't. I don't get the appeal of the BM940. I have tried to like it. I have 3, the std. aluminum one, boring, bought the carbon fiber S90v. It keeps me thinking "I paid nearly $300 for THIS?" and don't want to damage it so bought the Knifeworks exclusive. Love the blue accent, still can't to love carrying it. Oh well.

I bet it's less about the variety the Chinese companies offer (Spyderco has many models too, but 2 made the cut), and more about that Chinese knife is some form of frame lock or liner lock and it gets boring. The also haven't narrowed their scope to have working knives with high end steel, they're all either super steel+titanium/carbon fiber or average steel+ G10.

Nah... WE and Bestech and Tuya and all of them make so GREAT users. Civivi is kinda the top of the food chain for that right now. Spyderco's all have some family similarity. WE's and Bestechs and what not are all dramatically different than each other. WE is starting to get a "family design language" though.

I think I’m the only person that hates the pm2. Worst blade to handle ratio ever. I have no use for a forward choil when the handle real estate is so huge. Makes no sense to me.

Exactly. I can understand a finger choil on a small knife, but having one on a large knife is ridiculous. I really think the hype on KZbin is just a circlejerk of reviewers trying hard to "fit in". The Sage's blade edge is laughably small, too, when compared to the handle. Spyderco needs to stop this finger choil fetish they have.

That’s the fun thing about the knife community. Everybody has their own preferences based on what they need in a knife and there is something for everyone. I haven’t gotten a pm2 despite all the ravings about it. I just think it’s ugly as heck.
