"Elvis is back" of course !!!! Wow I'm so happy to see this LP on the top of your list ! (And this pressing is fantastic !!!! A precious pressing in my collection... well my original french mono pressing sounds "wow" but...). And about "vol 3"... it was my first Elvis' CD when I was 12... back in 1995 (haha) so of course I LOVE IT ! Great video Mark ! Take care.

Thanks Mark, that’s a remarkable Top-5 but in the light of your previous videos not completely surprising. Always enjoyable to see others pick their favorites. After watching your video I broke my head about how my Top-5 would look like, but could not decide. Too many Elvis albums that are too dear to me. I know however my #1 would be a somewhat odd choice: Essential Elvis Volume 2: Stereo ’57. After growing up on those (sometimes) awful sounding Electronically Reprocessed Stereo (ERS) albums, boy, what a thrill it was to hear these great 50s masters and outtakes in true binaural stereo for the first time, back in 1987. Today, in my opinion this record still stands out, partly also because of the mastering by UK engineer Boppin’ Bob Jones. I think his work on Elvis’ vinyl catalogue in the 80s even nowadays offer the best representation of his work, both in mono and stereo. I know in your videos you rave about the sound quality of modern day labels like Music On Vinyl, VPI, Friday Music and Speakers Corner and although I do not collect these labels specifically (I do have some copies however) I agree these new vinyls in general do sound fantastic. However compared to the German/ European mid-80s black/ silver labels and the green label RCA International pressings from the UK, you will discover a sound quality that in my opinion has been largely unmatched by todays vinyl. Look for the releases that were mastered by Boppin’ Bob Jones, ‘Big’ Pete Norman and Mike Walker. These UK based sound engineers worked at CTS Studios in Blackwater, London back in the day and were assigned by RCA Ltd to remaster Elvis’ catalogue from 1979 on. If you have any green label RCA International release you can check the dead wax of your record to check whether it was mastered by any of them (name is engraved in deadwax). The RCA International releases were mid-priced in the 80s and are now fairly cheap available on Ebay and Discogs since these are not considered to be highly collectable. Boppin’ Bop Jones also remastered Girls, Girls, Girls soundtrack and Kissin’ Cousins, both released in 1987 on the Camden (budget!) label. Until today I have not heard any pressings that sounds better. Any fan should really checkout these underrated and largely ignored pressings. Anyway, a lot of words to say: great video, thanks.

Thanks very much for this information! I agree on the RCA International LPs. They are so well done! I own a number of them on both the black and green labels and hope to eventually collect them all. I learn so much from my viewers- thanks again! 👍🏻

Hi, Mark. Elvis’ Golden Records, Volume 3 is an outstanding album, I must agree. However, have you ever wondered WHY two important tracks were left off of it? Those two tracks being “Can’t Help Falling In Love” and “Return to Sender”. Yet, they did include “Anything That’s Part of You” and “Fame and Fortune”, which didn’t even chart! My theory on this is that Col. Parker, being the money man that he was, possibly is responsible for that because he probably felt that by including those two very important hits would have had an adverse effect on the sales of “Blue Hawaii” and “Girls! Girls! Girls!” Soundtrack albums. I’d like to see your opinion on that. Great video! Walter
@markselvisforeveryonechann11532 күн бұрын
Hi Walter. Thanks for watching! So everything in your statement I agree on. We all know that the colonel craved wealth, so I think your point is absolutely spot on! I also agree that he felt adding can’t help falling in love would definitely take sales away from the Blue Hawaii soundtrack. 👍🏻

Hey Mark, good video. All worthy choices IMHO. I think my list would drop His Hand in Mine since Elvis Is Back was recorded at the same point in time. On Stage is a great intro to Elvis Live. That's the Way It Is is appropriate as is Gold Records Vol. 3. I think in place of His Hand in Mine I'd choose either Elvis Presley LPM-1254 or Elvis' Golden Records - the first one, in order to broaden out the time frame and put in some of his best known early work. As to Promised Land...I totally agree. I have seen so many people trash songs like Love Song of the Year, Mr. Songman and Thinking About You in various forums but I love those songs and most everything else on this album. I think this would give a broad taste of Elvis throughout his career. I think Elvis Is Back and His Hand in mine are two of the best albums from a quality of recording standpoint. The Analogue Productions LP and SACD are my go to choices...nothing short of spectacular.

Hi Mark! I'm curious -- Of the following two songs, which one do you like better... "A Mess of Blues" ...or... "Anything That's Part of You" ?
@Speekers_corner2 күн бұрын
Hi Mark. I'd have the same, but sub out Promised Land with From Elvis In Memphis. Not just great picks, but your pressings from MOV, Speakers Corner and Analogue Productions are all essential listening pressings, imo. I consider my AP pressing of Elvis Is Back! a top 3 sounding record in my entire collection (not just Elvis). Look forward to your t5 soundtracks. Cheers, Jeff

Can't see anyone mentioning the Sun Collection. His first album. It's the music that made him famous, that made him unique. Without that there would be no Elvis Presley that became famous.

You bring up a very good point. What’s funny is, up until just a few short months ago, I was not a gigantic fan of his Sun stuff. Then one evening I put it on, and I was astounded how great and fun that music was! 👍🏻

Interesting to watch for a guy who isn't that much into Elvis. But I have a question for you. When I was a kid we had Girls Girls Girls (a seven inch) with a song on the flip side which I loved but haven't found on record since. The song is called I Got Lucky. Do you know on which Elvis LP (I'm a vinyl guy) I can find it?😮
@markselvisforeveryonechann11532 күн бұрын
I Got Lucky can be found on the RCA Camden (or later Pickwick label) which is a budget label. Great compilation as well! 👍🏻

Couldn't you at least pick 5 songs that he wrote himself to show that it wasn't just his voice that he had going for him?
@markselvisforeveryonechann1153Күн бұрын
Elvis had a LOT going for him. Fantastic voice, great actor, an amazing philanthropist, good looks. Shall I continue? Sometimes I don’t understand the negativity.
