In the first minute of this video you nailed by biggest obstacle with the Helix--analysis paralysis. There are SO many options--amps, cabs, effects, routing possibilities, and more--that I find it tough to dig deep enough to really build a sound I like. That's what has made your tone-building series so helpful. You've broken the process into bite-sized, less-intimidating pieces and I have learned a LOT about how to use the Helix and Helix Native to get my sound like I want it. Thanks for that!

awesome episode Jason. i will have to delve into some of the other available models after watching this. fwiw, i play in a long running Pink Floyd tribute band and use the Hiwatt model extensively and never fail to get compliments from fans and sound-techs about my tones and replication of the Gilmour vibe. i've even had guitarists approach me about selling my presets! i'm just really impressed that Line6 offered this product and i'm still using it many years later without finding the need to "upgrade". kudos to Line6 for THAT! and Kudos to you for all the excellent content here at your channel. All the best - guitphil

Thanks, Jason! I just purchased a stomp a couple weeks ago, and the options - even just the different amps & cabs - are a bit overwhelming. It was very useful to hear a rundown of what sounds good to you. Most of those I'll definitely plug it and check out. Oh, and the template idea...that's great. I find myself programming my usual settings on multiple patches.

This is by far the most in depth, concise, and informative video on helix settings and patches. New to your channel, can you maybe do a video of your signal chain as you are on a windows machine and what your output is, and how you’ve executed the tones and what software you’re using ? That would be helpful to someone like me who wants a plethora of tones at a reasonably low volume. I appreciate this tshirt too.

The Line 6 Doom is supposedly "the preamp from a Marshall JCM800 into the poweramp section of a Hiwatt Custom 100." BTW your Tele sounds fantastic thru the Line 6 Doom. The single coils really cut thru the heavy gain for some really tight clear tones.

Great presentation and playing, as always. Line 6 has left out a great sounding amplifier that it's been used many times by studio session legend, Tim Pierce. I'm talking about Naylor amp. This an amp that line6 should definitely put on their list.

Man, those sound amazing. I feel Line 6 has been stigmatized for years and haven't really looked into the L6 models in here. I'm usually just between both Archetypes, or the Revv Purple. Lately started using the Badonk and the PV Panama, which I think the latter sounds just about right with stock settings. I was noticing the classical guitar on the back and I wanted to ask if you have used it with your helix. I've been wanting to use my Yamaha AEX500NS to record with the Helix, but haven't really found something to work with in there. Any thoughts on that topic? Great videos, man! Looking forward to the next ones!!!

The ONLY criticism I’d say is that the way you use these amps tends to shy away from the amazing on-the-edge-of-breakup sound that so many of us chase. Your settings are basically clean or balls to the wall.
@JasonSadites4 жыл бұрын
You apparently haven't used any of my presets where I do plenty of on the edge of breakup tones. This video was not about me dialing in presets on these amp models, it was about simply presenting my favorites. I guess if I titled the video "My Top 5 Favorite Amp Models Which I Will Dial In For You With All Possible Settings And Tonal Possibilties Right Here In This Video" and I didn't deliver on that, I guess there would be room for criticism, but since I didn't title it that and that wasn't what the video was about, I don't really understand the "crticism".
@MoveUpMedia4 жыл бұрын
No worries dude. The videos are great. Just a taste difference. Keep on doing it! Helix is great because it allows us all to scratch that itch. My itch is located on the edge of breakup. 😁
@JasonSadites4 жыл бұрын
Why are you making an assumption that I don't create presets with edge of breakup tones?
@MoveUpMedia4 жыл бұрын
I’m not making any comments on the many other wonderful videos you’ve done. Really not trying to be argumentative, just trying to make the point that with the amps you chose to demonstrate they showed either clean or high gain. You’re 100% right - totally a taste thing. I’m not making a commentary on all of your other videos. All good man, seems like this took a weird turn. I’m a fan, you make great stuff. No need to interpret this any other way.
@JasonSadites4 жыл бұрын
I just find it very bizarre to come up with a "criticism" on a video that had nothing to do with what you are "criticizing" and make some kind of assumption that I don't like "edge of breakup" tones. Also, the Interstate Zed that is in this video does a great edge of breakup tone. No offense taken at all, just can't see the need for this apparent "criticism". Seems lots folks feel the need to constantly search for things to criticize, it is very bizarre to me.

Heya Jason does boosting/droping frequencies above and below before starting to use the amp controls not change how an amp is going to sound before hearing what the amp is like?
@JasonSadites4 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom, yeah it does change it for sure. As mentioned in the video, this is the I use to start off all my presets and thus was showing I start of with all these amp models.

@@JasonSadites yeh I get that I'm just not sure why it needs to be done /you prefer doing that if it impacts upon how an amp model might sound alone before doing that if you get me? I'm a complete helix newbie by the way
@donnievazquez33194 жыл бұрын
@@villidid The Helix can reproduce frequencies way above and below what a real amp and speaker cabinet is capable of producing. Those frequencies outside of that range are usually not very pleasing to the ear, especially with overdriven and distorted amp models. I see your point but the amps (speakers really) wouldn't be able to reproduce those frequencies in real life anyway. For instance, anything below 80hz - 100hz can make your sound very boomy and not sit well in a mix. At the other end, anything over about 8khz - 10khz starts making everything sound harsh and buzzy. This is all very much a generalization but true nonetheless. Experiment with the low and high cuts for yourself and you'll see why they're used.
@villidid4 жыл бұрын
@@donnievazquez3319 hey thanks a mil for the reply. But surely when line 6 are finalising the amp models that is taken into consideration? 9/10 guitarists have no clue about low and high cuts and shouldn't have to to get the best out of a Helix amp model.

Tom I’d rather have it the way it is and have total control than for Line 6 to decide what I might like.
