Love that heir apparent. I’d love to see you do a “dialed in” series more focused on drive pedals instead of amps.
@Gitfiddle20 күн бұрын
You make a great point by turning the tone down as the gain increases for an OD / distortion pedal. Those bright transients at high gain can create a brittle sound causing ear fatigue in the listener. Great info thanks.

Sounds so good the scream 808. I never tried it on the real world but when i tried it on my Helix Native I'm blown away 9f how good it sounds. Thank you line 6 😍. Awesome playing by the way Jason
@Elassar724 жыл бұрын
It's also the most flexible one IMHO. It goes from break-up solos (this demo) to high gain solos (Petrucci style), as far as the "gain" stays lower than the level. I use the real one with tube amps and still using it on Helix

I’ve created a few patches with the Minotaur. It’s defintely my favorite OD in the helix and perhaps, my favorite OD/boost ever. I like to put it last in line to boost my tone and color only the tone - no additional gain and just a slight boost to bring the model/tone out.

Hey Jason, do you know that E note you’ve played several times during this video of yours? And so many others? Well, sadly, i need to inform you that I’ve trademarked it and will have to ask KZbin to remove this video! LOL Thank you for one more great video and wishing KZbin stop with BS and let you do your work that has helped so many of us not as gifted as yourself! Cheers

Thanks Jason for your demo on all the overdrive tones, I found difficult to get a great one, I liked the 808 tones really much, would you mind share the preset settings to me? I'm using a PRS custom 24 and fender elite strat sss with my pod go😃😃

Great video Jason. I have incessantly allowed myself to get sucked into setting the gain on overdrives too high and missing on using the overdrive with nearly no gain. You helped to open my eyes on subtle possibilities

Great video Jason! I was surprised you had Dhyana drive where you did. I've never been able to get the tone I like out of that one. Guess I'll have to try dialing it in more based on your input. Great stuff!

I love that Heir App but I don’t think I can beat a trusty old 808 sound for most of the hard rock stuff I play. Definitely going to play around more with the HA though. Your videos are great. Just when I think the Helix is a bit stale and I start getting GAS I watch one of your videos and boom!! The Helix is like a new toy again.

Curious who all is using outboard overdrive stompboxes. I may be a lil wierd, but as a Americana/ Classic R&B guy I love the Helix Fender models, but really feel that a real TS-9 in fronts seems to be the ultimate to get the tone I love. Amp drive @ around 6 - 7.5 and an actual TS-9 in the EFX loop block right in front.
@ahighervibe40864 жыл бұрын
I WAS, but quickly found that I preferred sticking the Heir Apparent in "front" of the Amp section....so the TS9 went into hibernation ;)

Replace the Chandler with Teemah! and you have my top five. But the key is the overdrive needs to match your guitar and amp based on whether you need high/low gain, mid boost/no mid boost, etc. I recently replaced Minotaur with Scream 808 on my goto patch because it fit better with my guitars and amp choice. Sometimes the best pedal isn't the best for your situation.
@Elassar724 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this overview. it really helps. I'm still on 1# ts-808 (the most flexible one IMHO, usable from slight old-fashioned break-up tones to modern high gain lead parts), #2 Deranged Master (when a "brit" amp needs more crunchy byte on rhythm parts, that's the way to go. Sabbath style ;) ). #3 Teemah (when needing "almost but not transparent" tone).

Whats the amp settings u using
@Nicky-T4 жыл бұрын
Good vis as usual, Jason. I noticed how you could get really good sounds as tone shapers. I'll have to start using that more. Also, some of the extremes were very usable. Suggestion: if you use a Variax you would be able to demo the changes in how the settings react to different pickups, as you mentioned.
@nyeehah3 жыл бұрын
I think messing with the level on any overdrive is key to getting a certain sound because of how much signal you're hitting the front end of your amp with. I know you know this, but surprisingly I didn't see you doing much with it in this vid. Any particular reason you didn't?
@jerryreff18574 жыл бұрын
Boost on the Heir Apparent seems almost like adjusting the Sag on various amp parameters
@joeviviano47882 жыл бұрын
Thx Jason as always for your sharing. Question: Does the LEVEL parameter on the Drive blocks affect the tone? Or is it just a place to do volume leveling. Specifically I am looking at the Teemah, in case that makes a difference. TY!
@JasonSadites2 жыл бұрын
My pleasure! The level control is just an output level for the fx block and won't affect the tone of the that block. Sending more signal into the next blocks could potentially affect the tone of those blocks.
@ThomasOnGuitar4 жыл бұрын
Are those blocks true bypass? :-) :-) :-)

Sick video as always man. So useful! When I use the Minotaur, I get this shrill harmonic 2 octaves above the high e and that hurts my ears. I can’t roll it off with EQ, either. I’m using an HX Stomp and have confirmed this to be the case on several stomps. Are you aware of this issue?
@Cymbaline7134 жыл бұрын
The Scream 808 is necessary for high gain metal tones. Gain on 0, level on 10, tone somewhere between 5 and 10. I really don't like high gain amps without it. They sound weak and rubbery.
@Elassar724 жыл бұрын
And depending on amps you can move the tone also down to 3.8 and still works really fine. It's the most flexible one IMHO
@gabrielefriuli1414 жыл бұрын
@Iridium Essence I think you are wrong. The TS is basically a mid boost (720hz), if you cut everything below 180hz you would immediately notice it

Hi Jason love the videos very well done and played .... Something I thought I mention i watched this video and you mention changing the output from line to instrument when plugging in the front end of any amp .. I use mine mainly direct so its normally on line ! And occasionally use it might my mike landau deville fender combo and I actually prefer the higher output sound wise going into the amp ..by comparison it sounds flat on the instrument setting but thats my experience Im a pro session player also Great vids though bud

It would be useful if you made it clear up front that you never play into a clean amp. Means the video has no relevance to those of us using the HX FX into a clean pedal platform.

Im having problem with overdrive usage with the HX stomp. Seems like it only sounded good if using HX Stomp’s own overdrive, but if using my own separate stombox like KoT, JanRay all doesnt sound as good. It’s fizzy top end and flubby on the low end. Any idea how to solve this problem?

I've heard that question asked from some people and it turned out they had their global EQ turned on. I regularly use my Pod Go, most of the time with a Matthews effects architect and a Wampler Fuzztration in the front end. Quite often I may add either an old vox Wah, or Friedman no More tears, sometimes a MXR blue box, TS9, SD1. I usually tack on my hall of fame reverb out of the back end, and I usually have at least one extra delay in the loop. I use a lot of those just to get around the limitations in stacking effects. When I was first setting it up I think I may have turned on the global EQ erroneously, but it took me a while to figure out I had done that, and I kept wondering, experiencing exactly what you are mentioning. I do a lot of editing on the pod go itself as opposed to my laptop. That is gotten me into trouble a few times because when I'm zipping around from patch to patch a lot of times I'll hit the wrong button and I might not notice that besides doing that I may have actually changed a parameter, while I was undoing my first mistake.
