That 'I was there' thing is something I catch myself thinking sometimes I must admit, when I'm watching videos about the 'grunge' era... But what I've realised is that, yes I was there... but my perspective of the whole thing is actually quite small, it's just me and my small group of friends and my personal experiences. I don't have any idea how someone else, who I don't know, that might have lived just a few hundred miles away experienced that time. It could have been completely different for them and their friends. All one can really say is 'This is how it was for me' but that is a very narrow view of any time in history and any series of events.

Too young to discuss Classic Rock? Lol. In 1981 I was 11 and I was raving to my uncle about Clapton's solo in "Sunshine of Your Love" (which I still like) and he went, "Cream? How could you possibly know about that?" The song was 14 years old at the time and was still played on the radio! I told him, "I know about Fats Domino, too. It's not obscure." He called me a wise ass. (He was right.)

JT, thank you for having the maturity to respectfully disagree with other people to a reasonable extent. What, we're not allowed to enjoy and analyze your music because we're not from the generation it was released in? By that metric, nobody born after 1945 is allowed to talk about World War II. The closest I ever got to making a comment about "Where is ____?" band was with Joy Division during the 1970's and Alice In Chains in the 1990's. I got a relieved smile when I saw Joy Division in the 1980's episode. Alice In Chains is my favorite band of all time, and I remember getting progressively more angry when you were talking about the Grunge bands and thinking that you forgot about them. Still kinda bummed out that their other albums weren't brought up during the 1990's video (I personally think that their EP, Jar Of Flies, and their self-titled album was better than Dirt), but I'm happy with them being mentioned in the video.

ALSO have you ever really liked award shows? personally i hate them their boiring mostly predictable and nothing really means anything. it feels like an ad. so if you evevr wonder why positivity doesnt sell well thats why- its hard to avoid it being an ad. thats why if you doooo want positive messaging you have to find 2 hour+ long retrospectives and how its mades; cause then that adds a problem or a story filled with problems an audience can mull over. thats how you create interest in media- so even outside art you have to pose it right.

11:20 hi I am a first time voter here and I’m a huge fan of your channel even if we do disagree politically, i’m pretty center right but I would say I’m a practical liberal, liberal in the classical sense. And I pretty much feel the same way about Kamala Harris would take any Democrat over her, even though I really don’t like Trump either. I was really hoping Ron DeSantis would win the nomination his politics are pretty similar to Trumps, and I do disagree with him when it comes to some diplomatic and economic issues but at least he has a lot more integrity and he’s a pretty charismatic as well, but his campaign was kind of a disaster. But that’s the great thing about your channel your welcoming to people of all beliefs, so I’m glad we can agree to disagree. There’s political extremes of both parties I distance myself from the extreme people on the far right and on the far left, I think both of those kinds of people aren’t complete nut jobs. I’m perfectly fine following and being friends with people that I disagree with politically just as long as they don’t go too far and you’ve never done or said anything that I would consider going too far or crossing the line anyway.

I mean I was a Bernie guy, Kamala is a bit too centrist for my tastes but at the end of the day, she supports most of the big issues I want to see focused on. Honestly I suggested she take over for Biden months and months ago. I know others wanted Newsom and the like, but she’s the VP so it just made the most sense. Honestly I can’t stand Desantis but I’d still take him over the orange turd. I’d take Binkie the Clown over him at this point.
@pleaseenteraname11033 ай бұрын
@@JTCurtisMusic I personally could never vote for someone like Bernie Sanders, his views are way too far from mine and his policies and views pretty much borderline on Socialism, and very early on in his career pretty much Marxism, but he’s at least much more genuine and competent than someone like Kamala Harris. What I do find funny is that many people in my family and people I know in real life who are much more conservative than I am, are acting like she is some far left radical when she really is not, I expect more or less the same from what we got in the Biden administration, Harris to me just embodies absolutely everything wrong with American politics, in DC politics in general, she’s actually adopting a lot of Trump’s policies especially when it comes to things like foreign policy and securing the border which is funny because she smeared him for being a racist, and she called his policies fascist, even though she’s pretty much backtracking all of that and supporting those same policies now. She pretty much will say absolutely anything to get elected she really doesn’t stand for anything, so pretty much do a 180 on all her beliefs if it’s convenient, as much as I despise Hillary Clinton at least she was a little bit more consistent. I still think that Biden was and is a much much stronger candidate than Harris. But yeah I mean there really aren’t any other people in the Democratic Party I can really think of that would be a really good replacement for Biden. There’s several other Republicans I could think of that I think could do pretty well in general election if Trump wasn’t running. Even though we obviously disagree politically obviously, The mini years I’ve been following you and everything I’ve seen leads me to believe that you’re a very reasonable person and pretty nuanced as well, and unlike other channels that I did fall and like quinton reviews for many years who pretty much made it clear if you’re a Trump supporter, or disagreed with him politically you’re not welcome in his channel and he’ll send an army of people to ridicule you. You seem incredibly open minded and optimistic as well which is pretty rare in today’s political discourse.I used to be much more centrist in a little bit more left-leaning, but to me I think most people who consider themselves centrists just are not very well informed, and don’t really stand for that much, and just try to seem more reasonable. I think an issue where we would agree though is the Iraq war. And we have pretty similar music taste as well. I also do agree the whole sentiment just talk politics not music is pretty stupid, it reminds me of an interview I saw was Sinead O’Connor years ago where one of the interviewers was like why do you have be so political why can’t you just stick to music? And she said some thing along the lines of hey I am a human being as well and I have beliefs and stances, and it would be wrong for me to pretend otherwise. And music is also an art form like other media it’s a way of expressing ourselves it’s a way of channeling our emotions and feelings, and to say that people should just leave politics out of that entirely just doesn’t make any sense to me. What I do have a problem with though and I think many people as win people largely stay politically neutral or don’t really have politics in their music and then suddenly try to invoke politics when it doesn’t make sense, that’s when it just feels forced, and in my opinion you’re really just alienating your audience. I think when people say that what they really mean this is the lack of subtlety not the fact that people are talking about politics and within itself, or they just don’t like your politics which in that case I would say that’s pretty hypocritical.

@@pleaseenteraname1103 I mean, we already have a number of socialist programs, Social Security obviously, Medicare, the fire department, even when we used our tax dollars to bail out Wall Street or whatever industry we see fit doesn’t really seem to be in line with the free market economics policy. Personally, I’d rather my tax dollars go to making sure everyone has access to healthcare and food than manufacturing bombs to drop on the Middle East. As far as Harris is concerned, honestly I don’t really see her as the antichrist everyone else does. She’s a normal politician with most policies I agree with and some I don’t. She may come off as disingenuous in short bursts but watching her interview with Howard Stern actually gave me some new appreciation for her world views. A lot of it made more sense including her being a prosecutor, it’s worth checking out and was smart of her to go on Howard’s show. By contrast when Biden was on Howard, I started to see that he wasn’t really all there mentally and this was before the debate. Unfortunately you’re just never gonna get that perfect candidate that ticks off all the boxes you want. I always tell people think of it like a game of poker, you have the play the cards you’ve been dealt not the cards you wish you had been dealt. I have family and people in my band who are Trump supporters. It’s super frustrating, but I love them just the same. Honestly, I’ve probably had more arguments with people on the left who actually agree with me on 90% of issues - but that 10% 😂
@pleaseenteraname11033 ай бұрын
@@JTCurtisMusic thanks for the reply, sorry my last comment was a bit long this one is probably gonna be a bit long as well. I’ve heard this argument made many times and I don’t really find it to be the most compelling, many of those programs definitely would not fit well in an ideal laissez-faire capitalist society which is what we got pretty close to in the late 1800s and early 20th century. I don’t have an issue with government programs in within themselves which I would prefer if the government just stayed out of healthcare, schooling and etc. I do believe the government should have some role, i’m not an anarchist it’s like what Ayn Rand said “ The government is a necessary good”. I have my fair share of disagreements with Rand but I mostly agree with her when it comes to economic issues, And I would tend to favor many of her ideas and the ideals are objectivism over libertarianism. But what I think is wrong is the government using tax dollars to fund these programs, I can understand where you’re coming from though when you say if they are going to take your tax dollars you rather it go to help people and then some BS. But people who advocated for many of these programs certainly were not socialist, like FDR for example, and it really goes back to Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt to a certain extent where the government became much more hands-on when it came to the economy, but it still was not Socialism People like Bernie Sanders and other people within the DSA, advocate for much more than simply government social programs, and they take much more radical and much more drastic measures than even the countries that they’re praising like Venezuela or Denmark. Hell even Trump is in favor of government social programs Tucker Carlson even endorses many of Elizabeth Warren‘s plans. I do agree with that point I think she did much better on Howard Stern than I’ve seen her on pretty much any other interview. The same can’t be said for Biden. Criminal justice is one of the most important issues to me and I think her record and views on criminal justice are mostly a disaster. Especially her time as a prosecutor and attorney general that’s one of the reasons I think her campaign in 2020 really failed especially when Tulsi Gabbard called her out on her hypocrisy, and her refusal to even bring up her own record. I could see he wasn’t all there mentally during the 2020 election, but I still much rather have him than Harris. Also another thing that I don’t like about her is the fact that she’s trying so hard to distance herself from the Biden administration, she should be president now, and it would make sense but she doesn’t wanna associate herself with the Biden administration, because she knows that it would hurt her campaign despite the fact that she’s literally the vice president of the United States. That’s at least my opinion I could be totally wrong about that assumption. Yes I 100% agree am I opinion last truly great president that we had was Eisenhower, we simply don’t have politicians like William Jennings Bryan, Robert Taft, Robert Lafollette, Theodore Roosevelt, John B Anderson, and many others anymore, we’re so ideological and politically divided the closest we have to those old line more moderate politicians that we had back in the 70s and 80s and even 90s in Congress today are Joe Manchin and Angus King. It’s especially true in the media and online politics, people who have strong opinions and tend to be the most extreme of both sides are the ones that tend to have the loudest voices and have the most influence, that’s why online politics is so fucked in my opinion. And people from both sides think that’s what both the right and the left think of them when in reality most people not the fucking morons on Twitter and Facebook, tend to be a bit more reasonable and less extreme coming from both the right and the left. Rarely do you see people that are major figures from either side that really will look at issues in a nuanced and thought-provoking way. Yeah I completely agree. I know many people that just simply don’t know how to have conversation with somebody about politics without just being a total asshole. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been called a libtard cuck by people on the right despite the fact I agree with them on most issues, it’s hilarious how far to the right some people are and that you’ll be called a socialist for disagreeing with them on a few issues while agreeing with them 80-90%. I’m much more critical of the right nowadays than the left because the right seems to be more interested when the online culture war, and troll the left than they actually do at pushing policies and solutions that will actually help the better of the country, I think many of those Wolk TikTokers deserve the scoring they get but they are in the minority most people do not think like that, and I think people in the right giving them as much attention as they are is ultimately just hurting them in the long run.

@@JTCurtisMusic I did comment on those videos and you incorrectly insinuated that I was wrong about him miming, even though Roger has been caught on video doing it. This video of yours about comments you hate, and as I recall you didn’t like those comments of mine much. And thank god Polly Samson called out Roger. I mean I get the what you are saying in the first thing you hate but I think they might mean you didn’t include the artist enough for instance I feel like you should have talked at least a bit more about joy division than just “here’s love will tear us apart and Ian Curtis died” in the 80s vid not just cuz both unknown pleasures and closer are both classics and considered as some of the greatest albums of all time but also cuz they were a huge influence on post punk and gothic rock that came after them and were also the precursor to new order who were also really big (now that I think about it I don’t remember you mentioning them but I am not sure) so yeah I think you should have mentioned them more (also to return to what I was saying at the start s that you might include the artists but you barely mention just like joy division if I hadn’t seen the vid as many times as I have I would not notice them cuz you barely mention them and when someone has ended the vid they won’t remember that you include them cuz well you barely did and when you have a big videos like history of rock that are sometimes up to one hour long the 10 seconds and a clip incision won’t be remembered)
@greekandbulgariangamertv86333 ай бұрын
Also I just want to say I mostly commented that cuz I wanted to yap about joy division barely being included and well if there’s a place you will almost definitely see my comment is in a new vid so yeah

Do you really think that Polly Samson is criticized because she is a woman? 🤔😂
@JTCurtisMusic3 ай бұрын
@@christophergase1468 I have literally read comments suggesting that she contributes lyrics because David Gilmour is “Pussywhipped” - I would chalk that up to misogyny and it clearly has nothing to do with her abilities as a writer.

@@JTCurtisMusicHer writing isn't bad, but she's a very unpleasant person who gets involved in a disagreement that doesn't concern her. Roger and David have been fighting since Polly was a child. She should shut up and continue writing her boring books. Just because she's David's wife doesn't mean she has the right to interfere.
@JTCurtisMusic3 ай бұрын
@@christophergase1468 you know, Roger complained about her “boring books“ on his KZbin channel before she ever posted about him and even commented about The Division Bell being an awful record because “David let his wife write the lyrics”. So why does Roger have the right to interfere but she doesn’t? Sounds like a double standard to me. I didn’t like Polly’s tweet either but it’s her Twitter account. She can write whatever she wants just like Roger can write whatever he wants.

@@christophergase1468 dude Pink Floyd is LITERALLY their own business! Polly too whether you like her or not. They’ve been constantly badmouthing each other to the press for the past 40 years. Frankly signaling out Polly and telling her to mind her own business because she’s “the wife“ really is teetering on misogyny. Again, I didn’t like the tweet that Polly made. I also REALLY didn’t like when Roger said in an interview “Dave and Rick can’t write songs” (the latter who’s been dead for years). Frankly if someone said that of my spouse or a dear departed friend I’d be pissed too.
