I really like the FA31/F 1.8 limited, and then I guess should be the DA70/2.4. These two lenses are not heavy and size is quit small, you can take these two lenses and take photos a day, you don’t even feel tough to you arm. And the third one, I would say DA* 50-135/F2.8, really nice picture quality, extremely sharp, very impressive.

I have to say the Pentax HD 20-40mm Limited lens was my favorite on my Pentax KP. It was an inspiring combo to go out and take pictures that I sadly sold to grow my camera equipment around Fujifilm. However, I have kept a reliable K5 and the Pentax DA* 16-55mm 2.8 for those occasions the weather demands quality and performance.

The da* 200mm f2.8 is underrated i think. The colors are nice, the bookeh wonderfull. Very nice for close up, portraits, even landscape. And quite small. When i walk around in nature, i have this lens on my k5iis and a gr in the pocket for wide angle. Great combo.

Thanks for another great video. I recently bought a Pentax K-1 which I love (the decision was helped by your reviews) and am currently using a SMC Pentax-FA, F:1:4 50mm with it (from my old Pentax MZ-3 film camera which I have moved over from). I have been commission to take photographs of the workforce in children's centres across Manchester, UK (meetings and them doing their jobs in general as well as perhaps some portraits) which will obviously involve a lot of indoor photography of people in a range of lighting conditions. I also like to do portraits (not in a studio - just out and about). I am not particularly interested in landscape, sports or wildlife photography and like documentary photography and photography that feels intimate. I would really appreciate it if you could recommend a lens.

I am a fan of pancake lenses from Pentax. I am using 3 lenses with K-01 most of the time: 15 mm, 40 mm and 70 mm. They definitely have their shortcomings and are not as fast as pro lenses but I just like their form factor and their sizes fit K-01 so well. I almost bought a KP but then I decided to get a GR-3 instead. I look forward to the new APSC model this year. In fact, I would not mind if Pentax would just upgrade the KP to Mark 2. What do you think?

Over the years, I have used Pentax, Leica, Zeiss, Nikon, and Fuji lenses on 35mm film cameras. On my Pentax Spotmatic 35mm SLR film cameras, I used the following Pentax lenses: Asahi 28mm f/3.5 Super-Multi-Coated Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 35mm f/3.5 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 50mm f/1.4 Super Takumar (8-element) (49mm filter) Asahi 50mm f/1.4 Super Takumar (7-element) (49mm filter) Asahi 105mm f/2.8 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 135mm f/3.5 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 200mm f/5.6 Super Takumar (49mm filter) Asahi 300mm f/6.3 preset Tele Takumar (58mm filter) Back in the late 1960s, when my Miranda Sensorex 35mm film camera broke for the third time within two years, a colleague loaned me his spare Pentax Spotmatic with 50mm f/1.4 lens. I fell in love with the Pentax SLR body and the 8-element 50mm f/1.4 became my personal favorite Pentax lens. The 105mm f/2.8 was my second favorite. Loved the portraits I was able to capture with this lens. I routinely carried my two favorite Pentax lenses in a 28/50/105mm lens kit.

Did a shoot test yesterday at 105mm with both the Pentax lens, the Tamron and compared to Rokinon at 135. Was surprised that my Tamron was so similar to the Pentax at 105 in details, and colors but had more chroma noise. The Rokinon was so sharp and contrasty and clean! Also for same exposure, speed was 1/60 for Pentax, 1/100 for Tamron and 1/1000 (!) for Rokinon. Major benefit there.

I use and like The Pentax 300 DA star prime a lot, still going after nearly 10 years of continuous use! It’s sharp! And suits my surf and wildlife shots while cycling around with my Kata side slung camera bag! Also yes the 20-40 is nice and is often on the camera as a walk around and landscape lens! I also use the DA 10-17 fisheye a bit when in the bush and travelling. It’s sharp! For sure the 100 mm WR macro is also a well used lens for me with macro work, particularly coupled with the pentax ring flash! I do have the big guy, the 150-450 DFA- it’s good too and my other lens I have is the 15mm LTD which is a small beauty too! I throw the da 1.4 teleconverter on the bigger lenses plus the macro occasionally! Love the Pentax lenses and hope the new DSLR is a ripper camera as my K3 and K3/2 are well worn! Another great article of yours, thanks a lot! If I should limit (..) my choice to five glasses counting on my real experience, I would put in: the 35mm ltd macro, the 43mm ltd, the 70ltd (a bit of a surprise to me, didn't count that much on it at the beginning, owning the 77ltd: a beautiful creation but not so corrected for digital in some parameters, maybe); the 100macro (wr) .. and, maybe, the 55 da*..but I don't "love" it really, could be just because I still can't count on that magic 50/1.4 dfa* 😃 (could say the same about the 135fa, very useful, but I wish there was a new design..something like the Samyang)..or maybe the exceptional 35mm Sigma art f1.4, a great step up for me in usable large aperture lenses (considering the fa* 85 as an example..great, but not in all ways). That being said, I wish I could afford for the 50 dfa* f1.4 and the 11-18 da*, really..the latter being maybe the best chance on wide angle zooms one could find. I tried many others, but always found them a little dated in digital performances maybe. And, short before the 50 came out, I was already really after the Sigma 50/1.4 art to come up on k mount, because I was truly convinced about its qualities (also because of the exceptional, to me, characteristics of the 35/1.4 art, that actually Was available in k mount from the beginning). So when the Pentax 50mm/f1.4, similar size and digitally ready came out, I really started to revive my wishlist :} Thank you again! ☮️ :)
