My go-to string is Luxilon Element 1.25 and it’s on your list! Love the feel of it especially on dense patterns. The Pro Line seemed softer and more spin friendly too...how do you think the Hyper G might play...or the confidential too? I have used the Volkl Cyclone for about two years. And before that I used RPM Team for several months until it discountinued. I'm a 4.0-4.5 player, and I couldn't tell the difference between the two. But Cyclone is a much better bargain with similar performance. In the last few months, I decided to change to softer poly because my elbow pain and wrist pain have gotten worse. I started using Volkl Cyclone Tour. Noticably softer than the regular Cyclone, so now I'm in the process of finding the right tension. I doubt the RPM Spin Power will be much different than the Cyclone Tour especially given the value. The Cyclone Tour is also better than the Solinco Soft Bite and the Yonex Tour Air with better feel and better predictability when I test played all three of them. I guess I have to try the Confidential now.

Volkl Cyclone string comes in a few different colors. In result, the color of Cyclone string gives it a different feel, especially between Black (stiffer/firmer feel) and Orange(softer feel) . My current favorite strings is Volkl Cyclone Orange - 18g, and I have been using this string since 2017. Volkl cyclone cost and soft feel makes the string a winner for me. Majority of polyester strings should not be played with for extensive amount of time, since Poly's tend to die and in result become stiff and brittle, the end result will be arm, wrist, and/or shoulder problems. With this said, Volkl is a great choice. Excellent videos by Tennis Spin!

Pro Kennex Kinetic are very underrated but awesome on the arm. Volkl V1 is also a great racket on the arm due to their big grommet system and their excellent vibration dampening handles (probably the best in the business), the Clash due to it's incredibly low flex, and the Prince phantom line are very soft. Generally speaking any racket with a flex under 64 they consider flexible. The Clash is like 56 which is insane. Happy hunting. Also they suggest using the biggest grip you can use comfortably; it makes a big difference when you dont have to squeeze the racket handle so hard because it is too small.

Ok it's been 20 to 25 years since I've touch a racket thinking of playing again for exercise. With all the new technology with rackets and strings. I use to use synthetic gut but watching all these reviews what are the difference between synthetic gut and polyester strings. Do they get the same feel. And why do you guys string the rackets at such a low tension. Is it because of the new rackets being use today. I use to use a Wilson pro staff 85 and strung them at a tension around 62 lbs.
@tonymostic4 жыл бұрын
From my understanding, polys are a lot more stiff and harsh on the arm compared to synthetic guts, so to balance out their lack of power and comfort many people string them lower now days
@williamko50314 жыл бұрын
I was in the same boat as you, and I was also dumbfounded when i heard the tensions that were being played with today. The best answer I could come to terms with is you're dealing with different materials, and the ultimate goal is to replicate a particular feel when the racquet hits the ball. Back in the day, when you used syn gut, it was much "stretchier", so you had to pull more tension on it in order to achieve a particular feel. Fast forward to today, where you're using a string made out of plastic, essentially (referring to poly strings). Poly isn't as "stretchable" as a nylon-based syn gut, so you don't have to apply as much tension to it to replicate the similarly tensioned feel of a syn gut. Think about pulling tension on a rubber band vs pulling tension on say a broom stick (or another stiff object). You can pull tension on both, but you'll have to pull a lot more on the rubber band to get a similar stiffness to the broom stick. Maybe I'm completely wrong in this rationale, and if so I'd be more than happy to be corrected, but it's what makes sense to me. That being said, the trick is to find the conversion from your old playing tension with syn gut to today's poly string. I'm sure an experienced stringer (such as Tennis Spin!) can help you with that! Best of luck!
@gtowsweet4 жыл бұрын
Thanks you guys for the replies for the answers to my questions it helped a lot.
@javace794 жыл бұрын
People are taught these days to use extreme grips that generate a lot of topspin. Poly's lends itself these types of strokes and are control oriented, so need to string as high. You can generate a lot more spin with the string snapping back which works better at lower tensions as well as easier on the arm. If you have strokes like Johnny Mac and create no spin on the ball a Poly string does not do much for you.
@racketman2u3 жыл бұрын
stick to syn gut if you have the traditional flat strokes. If you use poly you should go with 17g or finer, and drop tension by about 15% or the string bed will feel too stiff compared to syn gut.

As the string wears out it frays only the red outside liner and underneath is a clear string that appears to be poly. The fraying is not like what a multi does, rather it’s just the red protective layer that frays. Does anyone have any idea what this string is?! SRKarting good luck in journey as a tennis parent. I have three, and fortunately (or unfortunately) they all have been bit by the tennis bug. They break every other day each or every third day (6-10 hours of hitting). So that investment of the tennis stringing machine we had to do a while ago. Amazing the number of projects that have been able to get done around the house since this pandemic forced us to stop traveling for tournaments 😁....tennis parenting is definitely a lifestyle. They also are now able to tell the difference between the different thickness of strings, and they landed on a predilection for 17 g, that was an expensive little change in taste. Ice code at that thickness lasts them 6-10 hours. It’s good because after many hours poly goes bad as this presentation mentions.

Which of them are low powered? I play with Black Code at 24/24 kg and I like the control it has. How does it differ from the Solinco Confidential?

Can you do a string review of prokennex IQ strings (hexa, cyclone, twister, xt)?

Love the comment on the ones that are tough to string. That's something I keep note of... if it plays the same as something else, but is more $$ or tougher to string, then it won't get used as often. A setup I like is Black Code (17) mains, Gamma Pro (17 or 16) in the crosses.

Love your videos. Have a question if you have a min:) I’m a 4.5-5.0 player. 40’s. I’m still in rehab for a severe case of tennis elbow. I’m a Doctor near Toronto. As I’m getting stronger and healing I’m looking to change my racket and possibly string set up. I was using the counterveil Blade 18x20 with a 4 1/4 grip. I switched to the Latest Pure Drive with a 4 3/4 grip. Stings VS gut/RPM T @54/51. I was looking at all my options. I’m looking for the best balance of control, feel and power. I have a one handed backhand. I tend to over hit if my competition hits a heavy ball. I’m wondering if I should stay with the pure drive and use a smaller grip 4 1/4, or look at other rackets that are not as stiff. Clash 100 Tour and 98, Gravity Pro and Tour and Ezone and Vcore 98. I’ve always used natural gut, but wondering if you have a string set up that offers the power, control and feel along with a racket that also is heavy enough but not too stiff. Any racket, string set ups would be appreciated as I’m looking to return better then ever, but keep my arm healthy! Thanks in advance

Sapient Budgie for tennis elbow, a pure drive is exactly what you shouldn’t have switched to

Random Person unfortunately I know that now. I’m looking at Clash 100 Tour and 98, Gravity Pro and Tour and Ezone and Vcore 98.

Sapient Budgie my dad has tennis elbow, he was using a pure drive but he switched to clash and it instantly went away - the clash is very unique as it provides comfort through the extremely flexible beam, but you retain the control and power of a stiffer racket, because the hoop is really stiff.

Random Person I will check it out. My injury was in multiple areas. Hitting really hard with college level player and reinjured in Match play going 100%. I’m a physician so well aware of the rehab process. But I appreciate the comment about the clash. Will definitely try it as I start to hit again. Thanks for the comment.

Difference between Confidential and Black Widow? I’m a long time black widow user. Tried confidential once. My impression is that I get more longevity out of my black widow, more power out of confidential. So black widow feels softer maybe but kind of dead, whereas confidential feels more lively/powerful. Agree or disagree???
