Really great to see a big guy throwing smaller opponents, I’m 6’2” and I really struggle with shorter opponents

I really like Tani Otoshi as well, and would like Harai and Osoto more if I could do them properly like how I do with others I've practiced more frequently. Koshi Guruma is definitely in my top 5, but I'm not yet certain of what my top 5 would be.

Which throws do you practice more frequently? Koshi Gurma is fantastic!! I think it's something good to think about as it'll help shape and focus your training.

@@TheJudoWayofLife Tai Otoshi, Uchi Mata, Ouchi Gari, Kouchi Gari, Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, De Ashi Harai, Hiza Guruma, Tsuri Goshi, Sode Tsurkomi Goshi are all ones I practice pretty frequently. I would do more Soto Makikomi, but it's a hard fall to take. I actually managed to do it in randori recently.

Great video. Completely agree with the O Soto Gari tangent too. As for Tani Otoshi it must be said: it is a dangerous technique. I know that the actual thrower is the one responsible for Uke’s safety, but the margin of error for Tani Otoshi is way too high. Always a pleasure to watch your videos.

Thank you. Yeah, that's fair enough, my experience has shaped my opinion but I can fully appreciate that someone else's view of Tani Otoshi could be very different. I am glad you enjoy the videos. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!!

The joys of Judo...the longer you do it, the more your realise how much you don't know. I thought I knew how to do Ouchi Gari, now I can't do it any more!!

@@TheJudoWayofLife Cheers. Funnily enough, ouchi was my go-to for years. I haven't properly pulled it off in randori or shiai for several years. At nearly 50, I think I'm subconsciously increasingly worried about being countered with my knee trapped between my opponent's legs.

David you have such good taste. My favourites are almost the same. And although I'm a lightweight righty I am greatly inspired by your style. Thanks from Canada.

I appreciate the kind words, thank you. I'm glad my style has been helpful for you. Where in Canada are you from? I've been out to compete and train a couple of times and love it there!

Great video as per. The technique I have the most success with is a sumi gaeshi with a cross sleeve grip. I think it works for me because it's a sacrifice throw and you have to fully commit.

Yes, great throw and variation. This is how I do Sumi Gaeshi!! I nearly put it into my honorable mentions as well. You're correct, it's definitely another 100% commitment throw, otherwise you're just getting a shoulder to the face. And thank you.

I like all of them except for okuri ashi, which I don't do well. My personal favorites list is 1) kubi nage, 2) sag headlock, 3) uchi mata, 4) uke waza/yoko otoshi (I see them as essentially the same, just done in different directions), and 5) ko soto gake. I concentrate on these because I am the small guy in the club and these all work well for me on bigger people.

That's an interesting mix. Don't see Kubi Nage popping up too often. Love Kosoto Gake...I probably could have slipped that into my honorable mentions list. Which style of Uchi Mata do you go for?
@haffoc

@@TheJudoWayofLife I tend to use the spinning, leg style uchi mata since it works well on bigger people. It doesn't take all that much effort to get the leg off the ground, and then the hands bring him over.
