To avoid leveling up too quickly, take advantage of the "Card" ability. The beach by Balamb Garden will give plenty of encounters for 6 AP per encounter so the you can level up your GF without over-leveling. (Plus, it's a quick way to get the "Move-Find" and "Strength" abilities)

Honestly, the only thing you really need to know is that grinding will screw you over. This was my first Playstation game when I was 8yo. I played the game through to the end but spent the entire time grinding and maxing out my characters so when I got to the final boss fight I literally couldn't beat it. I'm 32yo now and I technically still haven't beat it lmao

I found the junction system very interesting. I loved how it changes things up. The gunblade has always been my favorite weapon. I've always thought it was a cool idea.

Card mod is the key to be overpowered, being low lvl. Learning how to use it, you will achieve the best magics, weapons early by refining cards.

Another big part of junctioning is to make yourself invulnerable to stat effects and absorbing/ attacking with various SE or magic

zell's limit break finale. u can use it even without reading the manual. u just have to know the correct pattern for his finales. it works even in the steam and remastered version, try it!

So I just finished playing FF8 for about three hours. There are a couple of things I noticed of the game play compared to the original. 1) the GF boosting mechanism is more sensitive and button mashing isn't as effective as it used to be. 2) the repeating trigger used for Squall's limit brake has different timing in which R1 must be pressed a split second earlier than the original. I found myself using the trigger before it hit the line rather than the the timing I'm used to of the trigger being used on the line. Fortunately the limit break cheat that comes from the remastered version allowed me to practice until I had to get a better feel for it.

I remember having no issues using the junction system when I was ~12 years old when the game came out. I was surprised by how many people hated it when I saw reviews for the game many years later. I guess kids are just more used to figuring out how things work vs. having things work for them.

I can definitely relate. Nowadays, newer generation deprive the developers of their freedom to create and introduce something innovative. Giving bad reviews to games and their mechanics is like playing the Rubik's cube and giving it bad impression because the reviewer can't solve it. Like some toys, some games are not for everyone.

They actually removed chocobo world and moved all the rewards to Angelo search and gave it a higher find rate.

When it comes to minigames, I'm NOT a favor of Triple Triad lol - I much more prefer to draw and card enemies and level just a smidge before getting to the end boss. By a smidge, I mean I may not be level 6 or 7 but I won't be more than maybe level 20 (if that high). I DO love Blitzball though and would play that a trillion years before even playing Triple Triad even a nanosecond lol - I tend to lose when I play Triple Triad and can't figure out the technique - like what to do to actually score points and thus win. Great video as always and good tips! One of my favorite games :-D

i'm a brand new player to this game, currently trying to get past edea at galbadia garden. i knew pretty much none of these tips except for the junction and gf mechanics which i still have yet to get good at. i've not even played triple triad yet...

I would suggest doing some swapping around and drawing from enemies. The more spells you have, the more powerful the junction. And since enemies scale with your level, draw the magic, and then flee the fight. If you go back to low level areas, you can draw a lot of magic and really crank up your abilities pretty quickly. That’ll help with some troublesome bosses

Are you saying not everyone has critical or it's easier/more damaging with the gunblade. Because I can get criticals with Quistis. It's just the timing is a little tighter. I'm doing a Beginners walkthrough. Like what you can figure out easily your first time playing. I never mention not over leveling because you can. What my beginners playthrough emphasizes on is junction magic and making cards out of enemies to get cards. Whether your using cards to play Triple Triad to get more cards or use the ones you have from transforming monsters to get junction magic or items.

Most Bosses scale to a point. They have a max level. For me, I like to keep encounters on until my average party level reaches next boss max level. It keeps the random encounters from being too easy or too hard.

From my memory of the game, I am pretty sure the NPC's don't really tell you where you need to go to progress through the stories? I know, sometimes it does. Or maybe I just missed the hints?

They do to give you direction. But due to the things we do in-game, we tend to forget where exactly were suppose to go. So if it's an NPC that reminds you the direction the player should be going, well yeah, I don't remember any either.

Drawing versus refining is like get strong now or get strong later. Drawing is appropriate to active characters while refining is for your substitute characters.

My advice is to avoid fighting totaly-get the encounter none from diablo first- until you have unlocked all the stat bonuses, probably until you have the airship. If you need ap and no experience, go fight cactuars. I personnaly dont like the card game so i dont play it, i just get all the items from fiends when i have ragnarok.

Ok, so the reason the gunblade is better, is because the gunblade is player controlled. Every swing can be a critical hit if you get the timing down. Every other weapon is based on the luck stat of your characters. So while Zell’s critical might hit harder, it hits way less often, giving Squall the distinct advantage of always having critical at your disposal as opposed to random.

Was gunna play this cause it's free on xbox game pass and finished FFX, but enemy scaling puts me off any and every game it's in, what is the point in a leveling system when you can never feel like you've progressed, because everything progresses off your efforts.

It's part of the item synthesis system. The enemies drop better items the higher level you are, and it helps with acquiring the ultimate weapons too.

I remember getting it disc 2 earliest because of the Pulse Ammo right after FH event and the Dragon Fang near the Sumi(?). Punishment is something you can get at sdisc 1 though.

@@wdjssssnn No they don't. GF never appear as questionmarks. Only unknown spells do. Every single GF you can get through Draw is listed by it's name. Not questionmarks. You can also look it up in my letsplay if you want to. Part 5 at 22:54 (there I draw Siren at the dollet mission. it is listed by name). Not in the moment when I draw it but also before in the selection.

Very true I manly focus after you get the magic lamp to start the big part of the grind. Usually use early game cheese by drawing a bunch early for stats but keeping lvl relatively low so fight with diablo is ez.

F*** this game. I started playing this game and heard that the system was a little confusing but I figured the game would do a good enough job at giving me an idea of how it works and I can figure out the rest but my God it is so ass-backwards. I still don't even know how I get magic, I unlocked my first spell lightning somehow I don't even know how. I assume that either came from leveling up my character or from leveling up my summons so I just decided to keep doing that to try to get more spells only to find out that I actually just made the game way harder for myself. At first it was fine fighting the soldiers on the first mission but as soon as those snake guy started showing up I started wrecking me so bad and then sylphy joins the crew and she's at level eight, literally half the level of my other characters. So my characters are like level 17 and I still have one spell no skills, no idea how the goddamn idea limited brake system works, the only way I was able to beat the boss and complete the mission was by spamming the hell out of my summons and happy to watch the animation every single time what's even at 3x speed was still obnoxious. I am genuinely mad and don't understand how anyone could defend this leveling system. I get that maybe it's fun that you can do different things and it's more strategic for people who think normal jrpgs are too easy but my God I should not f*** myself over this badly for doing a normal thing that anyone would do when playing an RPG, leveling up!!!!! And the worst part is I'm just not having fun, part of me wants to keep playing the game just to say that I did but honestly I don't want to get this upset again.

Really can't believe just how many god awful game mechanics Square managed to cram into one game. Every time I look into ways to try and make the game fun somehow, I'm reminded of a new one and immediately lose all interest.

Oh my gosh your news anchor voice is driving me up the wall. Tone is going up and down constantly. No unique tone. And talking is going super fast. Work on making your tone and pitch better. Going up and down with the same tone and pitch the entire video drives people like me insane where u want to turn off the video as soon as we play it. Dreamcastguy was the same way but he has improved so well that I can't see this flaw.

I don't agree with tip 5, you can still refine magic for the magic you want. No way am I going to spend time drawing say Demi from some one as powerful as Diablos when its just as easy to mode cards into Demi and than junction it to your stats. Draw magic to start off with, but once you got the stuff ready, you can turn monsters into cards, and than cards into magic, or items into magic ete.
