Hello, I believe this is my first time commenting. I have been a subscriber of yours for a little over two years. You are indeed one of my favorite book tubers. I appreciate all the books you brought to my world!! While viewing your video, I paused after each book description; then purchased three books. I purchased the hardcover copy of The Defender, and Like Trees, Walking. I purchased the audible copy of Perfect Peace. Thank you!!

I am inspired to read Jane Eyre followed by Wild Beautiful and Free - thanks!

I'm so impressed that you've read Jane Eyre three times, well done. I want to read Maryse Condè's Windward Heights and wonder if I should read Wuthering Heights again, a book I read as a teenager. Wild Beautiful and Free sounds amazing! I must start Zola one day, I so admire your perseverance with his series. Love your descriptions of his writing and the surprise at encountering the psychological suspense. The 392 makes me think of Zadie Smith's NW. Just love bus characters, so much more drama and spirited people on the buses in London than the Tube. Butter Honey Pig Bread sounds great too, I remember seeing that cover everywhere. Love all your favourites Didi.

Thanks so much for your comment. Yes I hadn't thought about NW but you are correct. Yes you must start Zola he's amazing and definitely read Butter Honey Pig Bread!

I have been looking forward to this video - love your recommendations Didi! I have already read some of the books but now need to check out Saphronia Scott's books, Perfect Peace, Jam on the Vine and Butter Honey Pig Bread. My 5* reads were In Memoriam by Alice Winn, The Mother by Yvette Edwards, The Runaways by Fatima Bhutto, The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho by Paterson Joseph and Love From The Pink Palace by Jill Nalder (Memoir) to name just a few! 😂
@browngirlreading Жыл бұрын
OMG Loved The Mother is such a good book! Haven't heard of the books you've mentioned. I need to go look them up.

I loved Jane Eyre as well - a good companion read is Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys (her imagined narrative about the wife in the attic).
@browngirlreading Жыл бұрын
I still need to read Wide Saragasso Sea. It's on my TBR.
@kurtfox4944 Жыл бұрын
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I find _Wide Sargasso Sea_ as nothing more than fanfiction long before there was such a thing. I think it would not stand by itself without Jane Eyre. If you are absolutely wild about Jane, then maybe you will like it. It's just an opinion.

After listening to you talk about the Zola books, I’m going to add them to my list. I’m also going to take a look at some of the other ones that I haven’t already read. They might be added to my list as well.

Yes Ana and I have really enjoyed reading The Rougon-Macquart series! I'm not sure you'll like them. They can be very scandalous and emotional, bu they have been very interesting for the most part.

The book club meeting with Daniel Black is probably one of my favorite bookish events of the year. And the 493! So smartly told, and the tension he creates over the course of the bus ride really kept me in the story. I really need to find these Zora books 😂.

Yes Dr. Daniel Black at out book club meeting was the best! Yes Zola has been great these past 2 years. When we're done at the end of March we will miss him.

Wild Beautiful and Free is already on my Tbr tkanks to an other of your video and I just ordered Like Trees Walking and the Defender. I can't tell what are my favourite reads of 2023 for fiction because I was reading mostly nonfiction books. But I would recommend Saving Savannah from Jacqueline Jones or Forgotten Readers by Elizabeth Mc Henry.

Glad you enjoyed it Hannah! I've loved Jane Eyre since I was 14 when I found it on the library shelves in summer. Soo good! that book will never get old for me. I do need to read more from the Brontës.

I love Jane Eyre too. And that Germinal book? Ill admit I started not entirely on board but I got hooked. Its been months since I read it and its still in my head, randomly thinking about scenes here or there. Are Zola's other books just as good? Thank you for teaching me how to say it properly 😅
@browngirlreading Жыл бұрын
Yes I've been reading the series with a friend for 2years. We're going to finish the series at the end of March. Yes some of the others are really good. I'll be doing a video on it.
