Thank you for your videos. My advice on running is to keep it short distances but more intensive. Long distance running produces thin body with very little muscle that looks like someone that just left the concentration camp. Short distance, more intensive running results in more perfect body with the right amount of muscles and healthy appearance. Proof of this can be seen by comparing marathon runners to short distance runners during olympics.

“Greed is good.” Who can forget that quote? But, boring can be better. I am taking a similar approach and have been making the most of short term cash in a Treasury MMF. Over the past couple years, it has generated cash for future purchases even exceeding dividend yields, albeit without valuation gain. I agree, this market is way overbought and the exuberance to just throw money at overpriced assets thinking they’ll go higher, as warning bells are going off with some businesses showing sales weakness (ie: Target, Foot Locker) is not a good play IMHO. That may end in disappointment.

Hi Ian! I remember way back when, when you were making videos in the middle of the night. I'm happy you are focusing more on life. I've seen a lot if burnout, including me, in my life. I did two 100 milers last year, and you're absolutely correct in how much time training takes. 2025 goals are getting three more states for my marathons, and the bug goal is getting my legs in shape for a 100 mile trail race (the others were paved). As to investing, i have to get a car so the funds will come down 😢. But thats life. I've invested for a long time so it wont hurt. I haven't hit Idaho yet on my marathon goal, but when I do, I'll let you know. Any cool marathons or ultras there? I do like timed races. Take it easy and see you in the next one.

Hey Ian. 2 questions--do you have any investment portfolios that you allow outside firms manage? I have one of these because even though I've been investing for a long time (25+ years) they are more conservative than my dividend-heavy retirement income account. They make mistakes (like chasing Cathie Wood) but they keep small positions and are safely diversified. On a different note, if SCHD rebalances making some stock (like say CSCO) becoming its top weighted holding, would you then sell your personal CSCO position if you had one? All the best in 2025. I'm 66 but I was at my physical peak at 43 a year after beating cancer.
@ppcian11 күн бұрын
Hi Chris, great questions!!! First, thank you for your longtime support! I always appreciate your comments! In terms of your first question, I’ve definitely thought about it (and continue to do so). Something to keep in mind… From a retirement account perspective, I do have a few conservative mutual funds (blended with stocks and bonds), and they have performed great. They may employ a different strategy than me, and I value that. In terms of SCHD, I value the portfolio changing over time to attempt to track the Dow Jones Dividend 100 Index. I’m very much a buy and hold forever investor. So, I generally don’t sell unless needed for some major reason. Because of this contrast in strategy, I value SCHD for doing what I do not. Wishing you an amazing Holiday Season! (Disc: I’m long SCHD)

i mean... when market overall is overvalued... then whats the reason to buy ETF? with etf you buy a lot of companies that mean maybe 90% of that ETF is overvalued... why not double down on JUST the undervalued dividend stocks right now? i am really curious.... many companies are pretty down now... for me personally i am buying vici and O is even better deal but i dont buy that one and many more... if you believe pfizer can turn it around then there you have literally company at rock bottom...

Thanks for your feedback. For me, I tend to agree CSCO would not be my 1st choice as an individual stock. However, SCHD is algorithmically-driven and the algo has not yet let investors down. So, I’m giving it a chance. I’m at the point where there are things I have to accomplish first, but I’ll eventually be able to add a few direct positions in tech. It’s a matter of limited capital and prioritization. (Disc: I’m long SCHD)

Personally, with all the debts that all these Western countries are accumulating, I have liquidated all my bonds for a while. When I see the circus yesterday in France where the Chamber of Deputies dismissed the entire government and where it will be in an institutional mess without stability because while without clear majority in the chamber for at least until 2026 and where Germany is also in full political and economic mess, it is not the time to entrust your money to any Western government, high rates or not. I much prefer to invest in companies that trade internationally, pay a good dividend and have very little debt behind them.

Ian, You said that you plan to hold your U.S. Treasuries to maturity. Aren't you concerned about losing purchasing power on your principal? I know that the rates are above the current inflation rate so you do cover inflation and that is great. But in X years when you get your princial back, that large investment hasn't been adusted for inflation and is worth less to you.

@ppcian11 күн бұрын
1) Over the long-term, SCHD has been doing just fine compared to S&P. See calculator on their website. 2) My risk tolerance is unique to me. S&P will likely have higher drawdown in a correction. 3) I need predictable cash flow to pay bills now. I cannot rely on selling shares because that doesn’t work well in down markets. Just my personal situation, and all are unique. (Disc: I’m long SCHD)
