I hope this information is useful if you need further advice please email me: miu@miuartstudio.co.uk (maybe I can forward some links of the supplies I am using)

Hi Teri D, thank you for the message. To solve the creases the best to do is to roll the folded scarf loosely instead of fold it flat. Please check the time line 6:50 in the video. Everything I used in this video is from Hdupont, silk painting and Gutta outline, steam fixed.

@@MiuArtStudioUK thank you for your response. do you prefer the tower one or that little round flatter one that you use in some of your videos? I'm wondering what would be the difference. I also know of another KZbin artist that uses her oven and puts in a pan of water to create steam.... I have just been skipping the steaming part as some of the paints say just iron. But I would prefer to do it the right way.

@@JudiChristopher Hi, Judi. I am a silk painter also. She is probably using H. DuPont steam set silk dyes. She mentioned that her gutta was H. DuPont and I think in another video she refilled one of her paint containers with a DuPont dye. I use those now but when I first got started I used Jacquard Red Label Silk Dyes. Please know that there is a difference in silk dyes and silk paints. Most silk DYES need to be steam set and the silk texture is smooth with no stiffness at all. The "hand" (or feel) of the silk is as if the design was weaved into it from the start- not painted on! Most silk PAINTS need either time or ironing to set, but the texture is somewhat stiff depending on what silk paint you use. Last thing, Jacquard also makes a silk dye that can be chemically set but the colors are not as vibrant as steam setting. The chemically set dyes are Jacquard Green Label Silk Dyes. I hope this helps. I also hope that Mandy does not mind me answering questions. I do not wish to insult anyone, just trying to help and learning from very gracious and generous silk artists. 😃

what is the purpose of washing the cloth after painting? Also, doe the gutta flatten up after washing/ironing?
@denisestover24163 жыл бұрын
We wash the silk after steaming in order to rinse off any remaining dye. The shape of the gutta and/or resist will depend on what you use and how you apply it.

@@ghazalajmal4283 you need to use SILK DYES, NOT silk paints. The paints make the silk stiff and depending on what paint you use, stiffness of the silk will vary. For no stiffness at all you must use silk dyes and steam the silk after painting to steam set the painting. There is also silk dyes that do not need to be steamed, they have a chemical set instead of steam set. The colors of the chemical set dye are less vibrant than steam set dyes. I hope that helps.
