Thanks Billy, Very helpful information. I’m 7 years into my cello journey and I started at 60. My teacher is excellent, but we can always need a little more help!!!

Another way of phrasing "don't care" is "don't be too harsh on yourself" or "don't always be a perfectionist", if I understood you correctly.

You really brought the concepts to ground level, for me. I’m so grateful. Keep cello fun and experimental to learn quickly, in a relaxed but dedicated manner.

Hahaha just started music theory 2 weeks ago after having learned the cello for 2 years and played the piano for 20+ years. I’m embarrassed for not knowing as much theory as I probably should, but I’m also happy to be finally starting on it after so many years of playing the piano pretty much ‘blindly’. Testing out triads and 7th chords on both instruments is my new entertainment :)

Hello, I need your help , can I ask you a favor ( as a left-hander)can you play your cello on your right shoulder with your with hand in minus 1st position on the C string and tell me if it touches the pegs please. I cannot play the tradition way and want to know before I purchase. I stop violin ( traditional) at grade 6 and want to take up cello. Thank you

I am 7 months into my cello journey. I'm an adult learner (72) with no music background, I love trying this beautiful instrument. What's funny is when trying vibrato, I move my left hand, my bow also stops and starts. is there a drill to make my brain separate my two hands? I love your channel.

Hi! Great appreciation, since I myself is an adult cello learner starting at age of 50! Crazy right? It has been 2.5 yrs and now I start to suffer a right thumb pain from time to time, because of bowing. It would be great if you have some kind of lesson for this problem or how to correct bowing technique before it gets worth. Thank you!

Hi Billy, I am a flute player but I have just recently been given a cello to borrow. I know nothing about strings or finger positions etc but have been learning a lot through watching your tutorials. I really need to start from scratch but I'm having trouble knowing what order to listen to your tutorials in as a lot of them are too advanced for me. Can you give me a list to go through from the beginning sequentially? love what I've learnt so far. Thank you, Lorene

1:09 What I'm interested in there is how you old are today. How long did it take you to be a professional cellist? I started playing the cello 6 months ago and I guess for 6 months I'm already pretty good but I made music since I was six years old Still, intonation was new to me on the cello.

@@sexymanicou3403 You can try the cellos out yourself in a violin shop anyway. It doesn't is my suspicion. I'm not in front of my cello at the moment, but I'll try it out when I've got my cello in front of me the next time and can confirm my answer I've given right now. And it's even better for your head, because the first peg isn't as close as it would be if you'd play with your right hand and holding the cello on your left shoulder. So that's a small advantage. Even though you could build it another way from the start when it's supposed to be a right handed cello.

@@cartersessal4551 I am very thankful that you take the time to read my comment and consideration to try it when you are near your cello. Where I am there is no music store/ violin shop, or class/school, all you can do a bit of reading online order and item and hope for the best; if something every goes wrong or needs fixing, that it. I intend to play the cello on my right shoulder and bow with the left hand so I came to 'youtube' to ask in the comment section. If playing on the right shoulder ( with right hand as note fingering hand ) can the right hand touch the peg ( especially in 1st or -1st position on the C string). as from said reply I will know how to go about it.

I learn cello since October 2020 . But slow progress. I even can't draw my bow well and still feel painful and tired during bowing. I don't know why. I replace my cello from 4/4 size to 7/8 size. Much more comfortable but still can't managed it. I am plus size women with 156cm height. I don't know how to improve and even I don't know my cello position is the right place or not. My teacher ask me to put it higher but I can't see A string. Oh, I am 40 years old . I can play piano ( just a little bit which about grade 6 ABRSM). I can read music notes. Should I give up or change my cello size to the small one?

hello, i’m not a professional but wouldn’t recommend changing it to a smaller size. i’m almost same high as you (158cm) and play full-sized cello. i think we are not really supposed to see strings/1st position that much. the pain is definitely an issue, i hope the teacher will help if you address them. please don’t give up if you’re enjoying it and love cello:,)

@@k.grushka thank you for your reply. I wrote these comments probably when I feel down because I can't see any improvement. oh yes, I don't think so that I will give up. Because I don't know what to do besides practice cello and piano seems I am introvert person. Yeah, size 7/8 is much better to me. And, seem a bit improvement that my teacher can hear some melody from my bowing and so me too. Not so clean yet, but I can play based on my voice head . Anyway, thank you for encourage me.
