What amazes me about the Twilight Zone is how everyone's favorite episode list is different. There are a few episodes that are more notable than others (like "Time Enough At Last") but deciding on a list of favorites is pretty much a subjective task.
@ToonGal128 жыл бұрын
+theproplady Yep. That pretty much goes for every fandom. But that's why I like making these Top 10 lists. It invites discussion about people's favorite (or least favorite) episodes and why they like (or hate) them so much.
@Snailbarf7 жыл бұрын
I think this show outs pretend list sites. I don't agree much with this list, but it's obvious she at least watched the show....You compare this with Watch Mojo, where it seems they just cop whatever Google says and slightly twist it to make it their own, and you wonder wether anyone on their site has ever watched anything, or has just figured out how to use the internet In the laziest way possible.
@cornellgreen36925 жыл бұрын
ToonGal12 I personally have so many favorites that I cannot put together a credible Top 10 because I may overlook some that I may truly like. It shifts like sand in the ocean when I see an episode that I may never have seen previously. The Twilight Zone was such great television that picking a favorite, for me at least, is an exercise in futility. But I have to say that The Masks is my head-and-shoulders favorite, followed by Showdown With Rance McGrew. After that point, that is where picking a Top 10 gets muddy.
@josepherhardt1644 жыл бұрын
The Twilight Zone actually got hate mail for the (unneeded, IMO) extra irony just thrown into the ending of "Time Enough at Last." And deservedly so. In fact, this episode was the inspiration for the term, "irony porn."

I love it when I find a younger person who likes TZ. Good for you, and as you've obviously discovered, TZ's a real treat. You have your own faves and that's great, but like myself, as you get older and being a fan of the show, I'm betting "Walking Distance" (on most fave lists for the past 50 years) will become increasingly poignant to you, as it did for me.
@ToonGal128 жыл бұрын
Yeah, more young people need to discover these shows. Outer Limits needs more attention too. And yeah, "Walking Distance" can be a tear jerker. I can still relate to it in a way. There's days I wish I could tell my younger self things that I know now.
@MisterMasterShafter18 жыл бұрын
Yes, 'Outer Limits' is another great one, absolutely. It wasn't the case when I was younger, but whenever I see "Walking Distance" now, I have 'some' of the same feelings as Martin Sloan. At any rate, while not quite as Sci-Fi as TZ and OU, if you're interested in anthology shows from that era, 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' is another classic, and with a lot of same kind of killer twists at the end as TZ has - but more in the line of 'dark suspense', crime and murder etc than Sci-Fi - though it did delve into a little Sci-Fi on occasion. The episode "Special Delivery" is a trip and could easily have been a TZ or OU. I would also recommend "The Creeper" , "Revenge," "The Glass Eye" with William Shatner, and "Bang! You're Dead!" with Billy Mumy - for starters. :) The versions currently on KZbin though are kinda wack, sped up and out of sync.

It was the only episode shot by cinematographer Harry J. Wild, who shot many classic film noirs at RKO such as MURDER MY SWEET and HIS KIND OF WOMAN. Maybe I'm incorrect, but I think I remember reading that Serling had increasing conflicts with the producers over the right to control the content, and he eventually quit TZ, and then returned with "Dark Side" instead... which wasn't as good, imho. Too obvious. He died of lung cancer. All the original TZ episodes are allegories. The same thing for many of the original Stsr Treks, Roddenberry was sneaking allegorical lessons past the producers and advertisers, while they would have preferred garbage like "Lost In Space." He wanted control over his material.

I can't decide which story of mistrust and desperation turning neighbors against each other I like better, ''The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street'' or ''The Shelter''.

TheAdorkableRJ the shelter seems more believable so it's scarier

If you think just a little bit harder, you might just see parallels with today's American president's scare tactics regarding the need for his vanity wall.

Seriously, over 30 years ago, one of the times I saw A Stop At Willoughby, not long after that, I got a mailing postmarked Willoughby, Ohio. Stephen King has said that the original Battlestar, which he hated, echoed the final twist in Third Rock From The Sun. 4:39, nice touch: original Outer Limits music.

That was the pilot episode, featuring Earl Holliman, freshly back from "Forbidden Planet".

As I said that was funny when the video started the usual then was interrupted by the creepy music. As I said, the Christmas episode was a really nice one, that would be number one for me. Your number one episode was a really nice one as well.

" Monsters on Main Street" is a really good episode too. Great metaphor for prejudice.

I like your top ten, it's original seems unlike the other top tens of twilight zone which all seem the same, but I really loved Walking distance

Glad you enjoyed it. :) It seems like in most of my Top 10 lists, I always have those couple choices that no one else seems to have. I guess I just have a soft spot for underrated episodes.

Just a note -- I want to point out one of the elements in the most successful TZ stories -- the actors. Edward Andrews, the tall man who was the government man. He seemed to hold a patent for playing obtuse authority figures. Fritz Weaver, the scientist Sturka, I think was the kind of consumate actor who made the incredible situations believable.

again another neat different perspective. i love all these episodes to death ;) but it's hard to pick a top ten with at least 30 competitors
